I'll continue building my vault when people stop randomly spawning outside the vault in the caves...if I wanted a cave settlement I wouldn't have built a completely enclosed vault
i've been staying away from building my vault since i first played through the DLC and struggled with build priorities. it's so wonky and arcane that i fled the vault area in frustration and went back to building out some of my other settlements. This really helps to see how the pieces snap together and how you have to fool the damn tools into snapping the way you want. So many work arounds for the building tools. Thanks for the lets play...This is as entertaining as your tuts btw so keep on making them!
I love Fallout 4 but out of all the dlc's they did to add new items for settlements on fallout how come none of them improved the awful placing mechanics, I mean it takes like an hour to place a wall since sometimes the game just says nope, not happening. I wouldn't even bother with settlements if it wasn't for the place everywhere mod! TheLich you are a hero!
I know this thread is a month old, but for anyone who's confused, in vanilla you can scrap both the construction barriers and cones. It's a mod conflict. I know because I'm rockin most of Ox's mod loadout and I can't scrap or select barriers either. I could before, but one of the mods edits the base object. Totally worth it for what you get, but there you go.
+oxhorn So to not get lost,I used the little numbers & letters from the Wasteland Workshop DLC & put things like Armoury01 or blah, blah,Exit03. Then use the arrows from the Vault workshop or the lighted ones from Wasteland Workshop.
This was really awesome to watch, I've been stumped with the amount of building area and what to do with it, but watching this gave me many ideas, you're channel is a national treasure. Keep on keepin on my man.
I've built a double atrium with prefabs, got a double overseer office size, overlooking the "subjects" via oval windows, but i was able to squeeze sleeping quarters between two roofs of the atrium. Too bad there are sometimes obstacles like stone and ground when all you need is a tiny bit more space to expand a room. Great snapping mister!
I have said this on other videos. Oxhorn has got to be the most patient person. I have tried three times to build vault 88... I ended up throwing sleeping bags down and planting crops and leaving it and never going back.
Just an FYI, Settlement Objects Expanded now offers swimming pool options that are much more capable than Build Your Own Pool, which was last updated in August. The only thing BYOP offers that it doesn't is "relaxation point" markers, which entice settlers to the area to mingle, swim, and use chairs. As a result, I use both together for greatest effect, although were I to choose one, it would be Settlement Objects Expanded, hands down. It gives you more water type options that override the default water for the cell they're in, so your vault swimming pool won't look like the diving pool at the Rio Olympics.
I won't speak for all but this is great. Seeing how you tweak the pieces and your planning process is very helpful and interesting to watch. I can't do the pool (PS4) but the rest is mostly doable and seeing it done is a big help.
Why can't the game just add extra stuff without having mods? I play on ps4 and still waiting for mods because there is barely any customization rn. I would really like to make a kitchen with a FRIDGE and more cute hairstyles because the magazine ones suck. I would like to repair the houses in Sanctuary. I would like to do a lot but I'm limited lol
That is why they replicated some of the more popular mods with the workshop DLCs. On the other hand, what many of those mods did was just unlock what was in the game already that they didn't bother to let us use, so take that for what you will. Though I admit, I am surprised they have not unlocked the fridges yet, this DLC would have been the perfect opportunity. For repairing the houses, I recommend the rug trick, that works on consoles. You can at least fix the walls and ceiling, if not the roofs. It is a well documented trick, that can allow you to build walls and ceilings and clip them into the walls of the crummy houses they gave us.
You are welcome, I have had to make use of it many times, place everywhere has not always been as effective as it is today, and it still has issues with being close to certain things (though most of the time I use the 'modpos' command these days). They are also good for covering holes in the floors.
Great video. I'd definitely watch more of these. The only complaint I have with your build here is you don't have a hallway before the bathroom, so people are forced to walk through the bathroom in order to get to the next level. Looking forward to seeing everything nice and decorated!
Toilet stall mod: ElvenBlossom's Items. She started with new stores, but has added many items, including the stall. I'm on XBox, but there is a PC version.
I believe Homemaker or Settlement Object Expanded has the bathroom stalls. There is also "Craftable Working Showers Sinks Etc. (CWSS Redux)", which has some nice items in that area. Then you have an expanded water sources mod, that gives you a working sink that gives 2 water (along with many other things) that are nice for effect (not that you need it in that location really).
It's always a treat to see the process that leads to things we enjoy. That being said though, I would have done one thing a little different... I would have the entrance on the middle floor instead of the pool floor. Have it as a locker room/lavatory that leads to the pool below and the gym above. That would feel more "real world" and give you better use of space - maybe even let you have a 3x4 pool?
In the area where you put the Bathroom if you could give access to the area with the floor you did not like. You could put up railings and make an area for the residents to sit down and drink a soda or something and dry off after taking a shower and or using the workout room or the swimming pool. You should also ask a Mod maker to make floor caps to put around the pool to help cap the corners around it in order to make the pool that much more safe rather then have sharp metal corners.
I like this style of videos. Nice. Also Settlement supplies Expanded or Homemaker have snapable toilet stalls. If you use Settlement keywords expanded the SSex and HM menues wont get in the way or remove any vanila categories.
RhysVR If you’re still looking for it for some reason you can get SOE, they have a pool section with buildable water tiles which functions as normally.
Yeah, I hate to say it, but Osborn doesn't seem to quite understand how the vault section works, because it's really hard to understand. He leaves the exterior walls of rooms in the hallways and the main atrium exposed. It's a simple fix really to use the domestic or utility hallways with doors to get rooms off of them. In the atrium, he can literally just snap atrium walls to the side.
+Sikamaru Nara "Really hard it understand." Is it really though? I haven't found it at all hard to understand the atrium pieces (took a few minutes, not much longer) and I am the sort of person who is usually confused by this sort of stuff. Lighting the atrium on the other hand. Now that is hard. Hence why I only used atrium pieces for the entrance area and the reactor room.
Ox... I gotta say it. Your vault is built incorrectly, and I assume that it may be caused by a slight misunderstanding in how to snap doorways together. Take the areas in your vault where the exterior of your residential areas are showing, for example. This can easily be fixed by snapping the hallways with doors to the residential doors, this way you can just have a vault that looks much more finished. You can also have windows that go between rooms if you use hallways with windows right next to other windows. Just a few tips.
+Oxhorn also on the pool location: while ideal to build in the natural cavern area, this does NOT provide any security for your vault dweller NPCs if mirelurks and other hostile NPCs spawn in these areas....
Oxhorn if you want the water clean then you should get a clean water mod it would make the pool look really nice and can you show us the decorated rooms that you built in this vid
Pretty awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing what lighting you use. Personally, I think party lights would look good in the cave area if you strung them on the ceiling. (Mod)
I'm guessing considering the date of this posting, you have already found a mod but CWSS is a really great bathroom mod with a lot of options that you might find useful.I just got this DLC and have been completely confused on how to build, it is so different from regular settlements. Your videos have been helpful. Thanks.
Hey Oxhorn your one of the best fallout 4 building videos i have ever seen i have the vault tec workshop on ps4 and i made a pretty sick small vault. Thanks :)
with how meticulous you are about clipping I'm really surprised you were OK with the stairs to the outside :D my ocd would have moved those stairs. still nice work. you just taught me how to build inside a vault. so thanks.
My settlers won't get out of the flippin pool! So I put an atrium floor/doorway inside the pool, and they walk out and go back upstairs to the pool deck. I figured there's a "force field" holding in water at the doorway, it's the FUTURE!
and this is why i never really messed with the building mechanism in fallout 4. i had settlements but mostly just used the pre built structures of sanctuary. building only pre made shops and farming etc etc. i didn't have the time or patience to try and build my own buildings.
Also in regards to a toilet "Stall" mod, I want to say that Homemaker added one? The walls were under one of the tabs and allowed you to build it and snap a stall door to it, then from there you could pop a toilet inside. I'm hoping it was Homemaker at least, I have a lot of mods installed and know I had the stalls for my settlements.
Hey Oxhorn - Homemaker - Expanded Settlements has bathroom stalls and doors, plus the toilets, sinks and shaving drawers and tonnes of other "decorations" and 'Fixtures" (even filled soap holders and toilet roll dispensers). It actually added (or enabled) about 75% of the stuff that was added with things like Wasteland Workshop and even some of the things from the Vault-Tec DLC, before those DLC's were even mentioned. When I watch your video's on "whats new in xxx DLC" I keep thinking "but I already have that?"" Seems the modders are way ahead of Bethesda, or Bethesda simply copy/pasted their mods and called it DLC
I'm impressed by both your engineering craft and you're patience. I feel the components should have been sorted better, or even made some tutorial, cause it's frustrating and annoying to figure out what clicks together. I had to build around 20 parts, and just try and fail to see what connected. And without mods, it's damn near impossible to snap some things. But good work!
Maybe you could use the neon signs as directional queues in your vault. I just use single letters on each side of the wall to tell me whats to my left or right (i.e.: "W" points me towards the water source, "P" points me towards to power source, and "E" leads me towards the exit.
I build on Xbox 1. I use the SOE mod, Do It Yourshelf, Mist workshop, DFSP (Stable), Quaz's Craftables. Pretty sure DFSP has stalls. Use the Xbox 1 filter on the Nexus. A few good ones.
Hey Ox, Homemaker has stall walls but needs a patch to work with Vault tech. Your vault looks great. I went to small in the first area, but will make it up using the others. Thanks for the help and inspiration.
You SERIOUSLY need some signage. That said, I like these types of vids. 1 problem, though. The ceiling is too low in the exercise room. No pommel horse room. You gotta have pommel horses if you want your facilities to be as comprehensive as possible.
Nice work. (Was disappointed the water was from a mod, but what the hey...) I do have a suggestion: if your mods et al allow it, the white tile floors from the "Vault \ Rooms \ Clinic" tileset would look great around the pool. Just a thought. :)
Sir Chris I've looted/scrapped every tire I can find, and I'm good friends w/ Dr. Sun as well as Fallout's version of Dr. Nick lol. I buy "rubbers" from them every time I run out. I think I just need to farm and clear buildings for a few hours.
It has been 3 years from now that my version of F4 was playable (too many bugs, too many outdated mods). But when I tried to recreate your swimming pool in my game I was a little disappointed. Not about the construction but two other things: 1. I couldn't find a mod to purify the water so I can watch my settlers swim. 2. My settlers never ever left the atrium except the "synth settlers" i put in my sports bar with robot home defence. So it was my own personal place where only my companions came to visit. After watching F4 videos again after such a long time, I'll try to clean up my Steam data and start fresh with a little less DLC and mods. I hope i can plan and build my dream vault very soon again.
Just a new subscriber here. I love your videos! :D But can I suggest not to put adds at the middle of the videos? I always need to rebuff the whole video after watching one and it kinda hurts my data. Lol.
Oxhorn, did you find a way to seal off the other entrances/exits in Vault 88, like the one in the subway tunnel? Just wondering because I have been trying to figure out how to seal it without much success.
I want to add this mod, but I've read that it unequips Pip Boy on entering water and it causes save bloat whenever a settler uses the shower that comes with the mod. The mod author stopped updating it, so I'm not sure if it's worth it.
I'll continue building my vault when people stop randomly spawning outside the vault in the caves...if I wanted a cave settlement I wouldn't have built a completely enclosed vault
Those are probably raiders that are trying to attack the vault. Once I built a whole base they stopped appearing
looks like you need some direction signs in your vault.
Yep, I'll get to that shortly.
I was thinking the same thing
+Oxhorn you should use the console to disable then renable the walls, floors etc.
and some lights
Vault 88, the maze vault
Ox needs to put a piece of cheese at one end.
YES
It's an experiment approved by Vault Tec
+Kris Reese lol while vault 111 is freezing people vault 88 is testing to see how people live in a maze XD
+Entity File yes exactly! It's Vault boy approved (wink, thumbs up)!
Loving the change in style for videos. I'd be happy with whatever you choose to do Ox!
Your vault is such a maze. I made an atrium for each sector and connected them all to start. Then just built off of that.
Would love to see
Head through a lavatory to get to a gym...
I feel that the smaller room should have been the bathroom. :P
I pictured it as more of a changing room than a straight up toilet
i've been staying away from building my vault since i first played through the DLC and struggled with build priorities. it's so wonky and arcane that i fled the vault area in frustration and went back to building out some of my other settlements. I wouldn't even bother with settlements if it wasn't for the place everywhere mod! TheLich you are a hero!
YES I love that mod
It's weird how you weren't able to scrap the cone etc. I was able to scrap everything.
Me too. Except for some of the caution signs on the walls
Grammar police 101 why is your name grammar police it should be mr/ms point out wat a mod does when it litery says what it does in the name
Charizarzar Try to scrap before building and without mods
Got excited until I saw (PC mods used)
Exactly, we can’t make a water tile on PS4 and we also can’t make our vaults that big.
+oxhorn So to not get lost,I used the little numbers & letters from the Wasteland Workshop DLC & put things like Armoury01 or blah, blah,Exit03. Then use the arrows from the Vault workshop or the lighted ones from Wasteland Workshop.
Every time he says corner piece I get hungry.
This was really awesome to watch, I've been stumped with the amount of building area and what to do with it, but watching this gave me many ideas, you're channel is a national treasure. Keep on keepin on my man.

His voice sounds a little like Tom Hanks, and I'm very much enjoying the thought of Tom Hanks giving me Fallout 4 tips and tricks
I like this, it provides insight about the kind of problem solving and planning that goes into creating these kind of builds
I didn't know Tom Hanks played fallout 4!!!!! B
Atrium Molding along the pool edge will make it look so much better.
Spring Cleaning will get those cones and barriers scraped for you. xD
Oxhorn Let's Builds? YES PLEASE!
in true Bethesda fashion he has made a labyrinth out of the vault
Just an FYI, Settlement Objects Expanded now offers swimming pool options that are much more capable than Build Your Own Pool, which was last updated in August. I think I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos. Doesn't matter what it is, there's always something new!

I would definitely like to see more videos like this - love watching your creative process.
It was an interesting change to see you do a Let's Build, but I think the shorter tutorials seem to agree with you more.
Why can't the game just add extra stuff without having mods? I play on ps4 and still waiting for mods because there is barely any customization rn. Hello_Kitty_CC it’s dlc not mods but the workshop are $5.00 dollars and the Nuka world is $20.00
Great video. I'd definitely watch more of these. The only complaint I have with your build here is you don't have a hallway before the bathroom, so people are forced to walk through the bathroom in order to get to the next level. Looking forward to seeing everything nice and decorated!
Love this type of video Oxhorn, 30min's suit it since it does not go on for to long.
Toilet stall mod: ElvenBlossom's Items. She started with new stores, but has added many items, including the stall. I'm on XBox, but there is a PC version.
pool idea looks great i plan to do the same think love to see more building in vault , good work on pool
I had no idea until this video that those other supports were for the staircases. Mind blown.
I believe Homemaker or Settlement Object Expanded has the bathroom stalls. There is also "Craftable Working Showers Sinks Etc. (CWSS Redux)", which has some nice items in that area. Good idea! Maybe I will revisit it.
I recommend Scrap Everything. Life saver. Along with a few mods that add in prewar settlement objects, my sanctuary base looks good as new...sorta.
I like segments of vaults and the building of them in general
This man is a ledgend
I enjoyed that Ox . An idea for a video maybe explaining the different pieces what snaps with what and different tips and tricks?
In the area where you put the Bathroom if you could give access to the area with the floor you did not like. lol you got lost in your own vault XD
he should have a mod for getting lost lol
Ok, need to go download that water mod. That is awesome.
I love this type of video. I feel like I learn a lot. Awesome job.
I like this style of videos. Nice. Also Settlement supplies Expanded or Homemaker have snapable toilet stalls. If you use Settlement keywords expanded the SSex and HM menues wont get in the way or remove any vanila categories.
Thank you!
+Oxhorn what's the mod that's adds place able water ? Also is it on consoles?
xXItSaPoTaToXx Productions The mod is called Build your own pool and is only for PC (i think).
+Nice meme darn it , do you think they will ever add it to besthada net
RhysVR If you’re still looking for it for some reason you can get SOE, they have a pool section with buildable water tiles which functions as normally.
Seem to be missing a lot of inner walls in your hallways
Grumpydrawer lighting the atrium fucking sucks with those shitty vault lights
Some of the atrium pieces have built in lights.
+TheDevian I've built my entire vault up, built multiple atrium and have never seen a piece with a light in it. I will have to look at that.
Ox... I gotta say it. Your vault is built incorrectly, and I assume that it may be caused by a slight misunderstanding in how to snap doorways together. Take the areas in your vault where the exterior of your residential areas are showing, for example. his Vault is so incorrect that its starting to make me cringe a little bit
That was surprisingly fun to watch.
Thanks.
I enjoy ur videos oxhorn your fallout 4 videos u make are like a bible to me thank you for taking the time out of ur life to make these videos
love this :) your videos have completely changed how I play the game
Woohoo! super excited for this let's play! Thanks Ox!!
Hey Oxhorn your one of the best fallout 4 building videos i have ever seen i have the vault tec workshop on ps4 and i made a pretty sick small vault. Thanks :)
You can use the tcl command to remove collision of an object you want to clip into....
I use that trick a lot :) !
Suddenly my vault feels much more organized. o_o
with how meticulous you are about clipping I'm really surprised you were OK with the stairs to the outside :D my ocd would have moved those stairs. still nice work. you just taught me how to build inside a vault. so thanks.
a very supportive video :-p Personally I think the concrete stairs might look better in the pool.
In order to light up you vault without putting wall lights: Put the flat Florescent Square lights inside the roof.
I am building my vault 88 your tutorials really help me THANK you.
My settlers won't get out of the flippin pool! So I put an atrium floor/doorway inside the pool, and they walk out and go back upstairs to the pool deck. I figured there's a "force field" holding in water at the doorway, it's the FUTURE!
Homemaker comes with toilet stalls, you can find them in HM > Furniture > Fixtures :)
and this is why i never really messed with the building mechanism in fallout 4. i had settlements but mostly just used the pre built structures of sanctuary. building only pre made shops and farming etc etc. i didn't have the time or patience to try and build my own buildings.
he's the reason why we should have birth control
I put some flat wall lights on the walls of the pool and it looks pretty cool
Also in regards to a toilet "Stall" mod, I want to say that Homemaker added one? The walls were under one of the tabs and allowed you to build it and snap a stall door to it, then from there you could pop a toilet inside. I'm hoping it was Homemaker at least, I have a lot of mods installed and know I had the stalls for my settlements.
Yes, it is Homemaker that has the toilet stalls.
Keep up these build videos. Unlike others you know when to cut the boring stuff.
Thanks! Will do
Hey Oxhorn - Homemaker - Expanded Settlements has bathroom stalls and doors, plus the toilets, sinks and shaving drawers and tonnes of other "decorations" and 'Fixtures" (even filled soap holders and toilet roll dispensers).
Ah ha, but we have the 'Place Anywhere' mod on console now!

I've got a mod that added loads of new items to craft, which includes a legit toilet stall. It is labelled DFEP on my settlement crafting screen.
Cool build, would love to see it decorated though
I'm able to scrap those building thingies just fine :O
I build on Xbox 1. I use the SOE mod, Do It Yourshelf, Mist workshop, DFSP (Stable), Quaz's Craftables. Pretty sure DFSP has stalls. Use the Xbox 1 filter on the Nexus. A few good ones.
This is totally cool!
Oxhorn, WHERE can I get rubber? I'll go out and get about 200 units, then come back to my vault and go through it like butter!
Tires a good source of Rubber; they give around 20 each I believe. Alternatively, The Doctor in Diamond City sells shipments of 25 rubber.
Sir Chris I've looted/scrapped every tire I can find, and I'm good friends w/ Dr. Sun as well as Fallout's version of Dr. Nick lol. I buy "rubbers" from them every time I run out. I think I just need to farm and clear buildings for a few hours.
Seems like marquee letters might be useful in labeling hallways, so you know where you're going.
Yeah I plan to label the whole thing eventually.
It has been 3 years from now that my version of F4 was playable (too many bugs, too many outdated mods). But when I tried to recreate your swimming pool in my game I was a little disappointed. Not about the construction but two other things:

let's build are much better than tutorial
Hello, Nice job ! Did you make a tour of the final build ? Thks
I wonder what lights under water in the pool would look like...
Just a new subscriber here. I love your videos! :D But can I suggest not to put adds at the middle of the videos? I always need to rebuff the whole video after watching one and it kinda hurts my data. Lol.
i love your maze.
Great video. The pool tile mod works well hope it will be available on ps4. Oxhorn were you thinking of putting lights under water in the pool
The shower/bathroom right over the pool... yea now we know why that water looks so dengy. lol
Need to mention in the title that this is built with mods.
Maybe you should have some pommel horses or at least one of them in the exercise room.
Also, I really did enjoy watching you build! ^w^
Thanks! Yeah I'll be sure to put a pommel horse in there.
This is why Vault Tec didn't want a pool
This was enjoyable.
hi Oxhorn
if you ant to snap a Staircase or narrow hallway to a Atrium Door you dont need to place Doorways between them.

Homemaker has toilet stalls, as far as mods go. It's on Nexus
Unfinished makes the vault look spooky as fuck, like something out of the doom movie xD
Yeah lighting helps with that :P
That could be fun, there IS a death claw in there somewhere... XD
More vids like this please, Oxhorn! :D
You bet!
