  • Here's a simple way to make roti (Indian flatbread):
    Ingredients:
    1 cup whole wheat flour (atta)
    Water (as needed)
    A pinch of salt (optional)
    1 tsp oil (optional)
    Steps:
    Prepare the dough:
    In a large bowl, add the whole wheat flour and a pinch of salt if using.
    Slowly add water, a little at a time, and start kneading the dough with your hands.
    Knead until the dough is smooth and soft. It should be pliable but not sticky.
    Optionally, add a teaspoon of oil to make the dough softer and smoother.
    Cover the dough and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.
    Divide the dough:
    After resting, divide the dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).
    Roll out the roti:
    Dust each dough ball with a little flour and roll it out using a rolling pin on a flat surface.
    Try to roll it into a thin, round shape (about 6-7 inches in diameter).
    Cook the roti:
    Heat a tawa (flat griddle) or non-stick pan over medium heat.
    Place the rolled-out dough on the hot tawa.
    Cook for 30-40 seconds, until you see bubbles on the surface, then flip it.
    Cook the other side for about 30 seconds, and then flip again.
    Use a clean cloth or spatula to gently press the roti on the edges, allowing it to puff up.
    Serve:
    Once cooked, remove from the tawa and serve warm. You can apply a bit of ghee or butter for extra flavor.
