- The chorale prelude Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ BWV 639 is one of the 46 chorale prelude of the Orgelbüchlein (the "little book of organ"), written between 1708 and 1717.
We are lucky enough to have the manuscript of J.S. Bach. It shows that he intended to write 164 chorale preludes.
Here is the english translation of the chorale text :
I call to you, Lord Jesus Christ,
I pray, hear my lamentation,
bestow your grace on me at this time,
do not let me despair;
I think that I have the right faith, Lord,
which you wanted to give me,
to live for you,
to be useful to my neighbour,
to keep your word properly.

Tempo somptueux pour exprimer ce qui est peut-être le codicille de son testament musical avant d'aller rejoindre l'au delà....on ne sait pas qui , mais Bach est pour moi la seule preuve tangible de l'existence de Dieu, s'il existe .....Merci Madame.

Étant définitivement fan, je vais dire que votre interprétation est d'une grande sensibilité et musicalité... Il ne faut jamais oublier que Bach était profondément croyant et qu'il ne composait pas de la musique mais qu'il parlait à Dieu..... Pendant quelques minutes j'ai été dans l'intimité d'un de ces moments.... Merci

For no special reason, but the first time I heard by myself this choral on cd, it was a little bit raining in the autumn. Since then I have always a feeling of that kind of weather belongs to this beautiful masterpiece of Bach. Compliments for your playing here.,

Une pièce dont on ne se lassera jamais et qui me touche au tréfonds de l'âme, encore merci infiniment. Dominique
Très belle performance d'une composition sublime de Bach. Selon moi, cette courte pièce semble suggérer toutes les joies et les peines de la vie d'un être humain. J'ai demandé à l'organiste que ma mère aimait entendre jouer à l'église, de jouer cette petite pièce lors de la cérémonie funéraire en son honneur. J'espère que lorsque ce sera mon tour, quelqu'un la jouera pour moi aussi. La version sur harpe de Nancy Allen est très chère aussi pour moi, ainsi que certaines belles performances d'arrangements pour piano. Mais la version originale sur orgue est incomparable.

Chère Anne-Isabelle, J.S. Bach a composé de nombreux et beaux morceaux de musique au cours de sa vie et nous les a légués. On peut encore l'écouter et en profiter tous les jours. Vous avez joué cette chanson d’orgue de manière très belle et tamisée. En regardant et en écoutant cela, j'ai senti que cette chanson d'orgue me touchait émotionnellement. J'apprécie cette belle chanson d'orgue à chaque fois.

I try to take advantage of concert opportunities as much as possible in the countries I visit during my holiday. Sometimes I go to the city where there is a good concerts. I once went to Utrecht for the Early Music Festival. Last February I had the opportunity to listen to Antonio Garcia's organ concert in Bern Münster. I will travel in September, starting from France and continuing through Belgium and the Netherlands. I hope I can get some good concert opportunities this time too. Maybe one day I will have the opportunity to hear your play on the Couperins' organ in the Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais church!🙂 Once again, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful music.

Sorry to ask, at 1:29 I miss the e-c-g-c (from below, E2) or contra E and even if it's no catastrophe it sounds bleak - as if there is Eb in the bass. I don't want to make this a big issue, but Bach's harmonies have such strength of expression to them, one of his finest moments.
I checked the original video file with the pedal, and I played it as it is written by Bach, with an E and not a Eb as it seems. But you are right, it sounds very weak and bleak, I don't know why. That's very strange. As you, I like very much this harmony at this moment of the piece, it is a very fine one.
