I saw Bo live in the Cotton Bowl 1986. He was the fastest player I've ever witnessed on a football field. He was incredible. It was a sad day when he hurt his hip. The best overall athlete in my generation.

I got to see him play for the Royals on many occasions, and I've been to a ton of D1 and pro games, to see a man of his size move the way he did was indescribable. Television doesn't even come close to doing it justice, and I have a lot of experience to base that assessment on.
I believe it was Howie Long who told this story, and I can't remember all the details or find any articles about it, but it goes that shortly after Bo arrived in LA, he was one of a handful of players who decided to have a skills competition. He beat the Raiders' QB's in the long throw, then punted it farther than the team punter to win that skill. I can't remember what it was but there was one more, it might have been longest FG, and he won that too. It may have been a foot race, I can't remember, but the point is that he won every category, beating all the starting players at their respective positions. The story might be just a myth and I may have gotten several things wrong due to lack of memory. But if it happens to be true, that's pretty amazing!
I heard the same story. I think the allure of Bo Jackson is that there are so many stories like that. And also that is was before you tube so these stories get passed down from player to player and parent to child.

He won the HS Decathlon without running the mile (in Alabama in the '80's that was run instead of the 1500) because he already had it in the bag and didn't like running for distance.

I had the pleasure and privilege of working for Bo during my time at Auburn. The most humble and generous man considering who he is! He was and is a huge ambassador for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and hosted golf tournaments in Auburn and all over raising funds for Saint Jude’s. I got to eat breakfast with him at the AU Club, just the 2 of us, he was so gracious and wanted to talk fishing and hunting.
Even as a kid you could tell Bo exuded class and kindness with very little ego. Prime Time was the perfect antithesis to Bo's quiet approach, Deion talked and dressed to entertain. Bo just let his play do the work

Eddie George is a great athlete and an even more spectacular person. I was fortunate to meet him in Nashville airport one night. Tennessee had just lost a tough game to the Bengals. It was the night Corey Dillon ran for the most yards in NFL history (296). Many of the players were justifiably frustrated and down after a loss. Eddie could not have been kinder to my friend and I when we walked up to the team walking through the airport. 100% a class act. Thank you, Eddie, for being what a true “football hero” should be to kids.

The thing that always amazed me about Bo was how ungodly strong he was. The way he would snap bats like twigs was so unbelievable. I tried to do that a million different ways and all it did was hurt like hell. Never could come close to doing it and I was 6ft 230lbs at the time and in great shape. He was someone to be in awe of that's for sure.

Could listen to Eddie George talk sports all day. Did some work at his house in Nashville. At the end of the day we packed up and he invited us to stay for some sweet tea. We did and got to sit out back and talk guy stuff for an hour. He's funny, down to earth, laughs easily and knows alot about alot of stuff. What you see is what you get. The man practically glows.

But the big difference with Bo imo was he was an All Star in both sports when both sports were open to everyone. Thorpe dominated in Football and track, but was an average baseball player when everyone was hitting .300-.400. Thorpe was an absolute legend though, good call.
Bo is the greatest athlete of all time, period! I just hate when people say that was the end of Bosworth.... Chris Johnson ran a 4.24 in the 40 & a 10.38 in the 100. Bo Jackson ran a 4.12 & a 10.39. Chris weighed 200 lbs & Bo weighed 235 lbs. Let that settle in.
CJ's 100m was 10.66. The 10.38 was wind aided and does not count. Bo's 40 time is a myth and his best 100 is 10.44. Bo weighed 227 coming into the league.
I saw Bo play at the old Schafer stadium in Foxboro in 87.every time Bo stood up & put on his helmet the crowd roared. He scored on a 11 yrs run that should have been 3.Stanley Morgan won it for us that cold November evening!Bo is the 1 person that actually exceeds his mythological accolades!!!
Had a 'Bo Knows' t-shirt and school book covers as a kid. Bo was huge back then. A two sport player that looked like Mike Tyson and always made it a mission to give encouraging advice to the youth of America. He's the reason I became a raider fan.
Bo Jackson is one of the greatest running backs of all time despite the fact that he played 10 games a year because he waited for the baseball season to end before joining the Raiders. I was watching when ne got hurt against the Bengals and was so shocked to find out how serious it was because it just looked like a normal tackle. Bo was amazing and would be up there with guys like Barry Sanders had he been a fulltime football player for a few years.

I had the great fortune of seeing Bo play football against Seattle. My Son & I were at the game where Bo carried Bosworth into the end zone on MNF, but my Son & I, being big MLB fans, saw him play many times with the KC Royals against the Mariners. We were at the game when Bo climbed the wall & the game where he gunned down Harold Reynolds. (we went to a LOT of games lol) I saw Bo tag up on a Sacrifice Fly & my Son nearly lost his mind! I have never seen any human being move like that! When he hit the plate, he couldn't stop himself! Guys had to stop him from crashing into the dugout wall! Yeah, he ran that hard on a sac fly! Yes, the guy could accelerate so fast, so quick, he couldn't stop himself! This was a great big guy. Over 6' & 235! I went to games at the Kingdome every weekend & many times during the week, my Boy was growing up so it was a great time to be a Dad to my beautiful Boy, (who's now the dad of my two beautiful Grandsons) I was an avid runner at the time. All on a treadmill at a club. I ran 20 miles a week & played Racquetball too. NOT fast! 6, 7mph on a slight incline. Bo was hawking some treadmill company on a TV ad. Here's Bo running as fast as the thing would go, at the steepest incline the machine had! Loping along like it's nothing! On the roller! RIGHT DOWN on the last ROLLER!!! He was the most amazing human being I've personally seen with the exception of Wilt Chamberlain.

Eddie George is a cool guy. I met him on the sideline at the Notre Dame/Alabama natty in Miami back in early 2000's. I walked up and offered him my hand and said, "It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. George." He shook my hand and said, "It's a pleasure to meet you." And i left it there and moved on. :) He's a big dude.

Bo lowkey would have eclipsed Jordan if he never got hurt. Him and Dion Sanders playing two sports with Nike and Baseball and football being the number 1 and 2 sports in America at the time would have made them mythical. Football it would have been tough to move him and running backs have short careers. Dion was too cocky and that wasn't necessarily a cross over attribute. He played on historic teams tho in both sports. If Bo was in Dion's situation with no injuries he would have been just as big as MJ. MJ got kind of lucky timing wise because the NBA was needing a star and Nike had the international appeal and marketing on lock. Baseball was still the biggest sport with football. MJ even played baseball simply for the visibility. Nowhere in history will a guy quit one sport and be able to be placed in another that quick. So we know that was set up for him with the Bulls owner and Nike.

Played golf with Bo years ago, (Cog Hill) we’re on a short par 4 and Bo laces a 3 iron off the tee like a missile stiffing the pin 6ft away. I said damn Bo I’ve never seen anyone stiff the pin on this hole with an iron ? He said “ Bo knows his irons” hahaha great day

The best athlete that ever lived! I remember watching him on TV when he played at Auburn. It was like he was at a track meet. He would get the ball, and head down field, and there he goes with everyone chasing him, and never catching him. In the "30 for 30, You Don't Know Bo", on ESPN, the announcer guy for the K.C. Royals talked about his first news conference after he was brought up. The reporters asked him, "What are you going to do now?" Bo said, "I'm going to go take batting practice." He took a couple of pitches, then proceeded to hit a ball on top of the crown at the top of the scoreboard in center field! There has never been another athlete like him, before, or since. He was incredible! He still is! A real nice Man!

I really want to meet Bo some day. I have all of his playing cards going back to the 80s, several signed cards etc. When I was kid I was amazed and I didn't even know jack about sports. He was the Tiger before sports we elevated to the level of the 2000s. He is one of the rare purely God gifted phenoms of sports and still remains humble. True gentleman!

I saw Bo live in the Cotton Bowl 1986. He was the fastest player I've ever witnessed on a football field. He was incredible. It was a sad day when he hurt his hip. The best overall athlete in my generation.

The fact that Bo played 2 major sports and did both extremely well speaks for itself. Awfully hard - almost impossible - to do much else outside of playing in the NFL and MLB, but Herschel was a great talent.

I believe it was Howie Long who told this story, and I can't remember all the details or find any articles about it, but it goes that shortly after Bo arrived in LA, he was one of a handful of players who decided to have a skills competition. He beat the Raiders' QB's in the long throw, then punted it farther than the team punter to win that skill. I can't remember what it was but there was one more, it might have been longest FG, and he won that too. It may have been a foot race, I can't remember, but the point is that he won every category, beating all the starting players at their respective positions. The story might be just a myth and I may have gotten several things wrong due to lack of memory. But if it happens to be true, that's pretty amazing!

I had the pleasure and privilege of working for Bo during my time at Auburn. The most humble and generous man considering who he is! He was and is a huge ambassador for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and hosted golf tournaments in Auburn and all over raising funds for Saint Jude’s. I got to eat breakfast with him at the AU Club, just the 2 of us, he was so gracious and wanted to talk fishing and hunting.
Even as a kid you could tell Bo exuded class and kindness with very little ego. Prime Time was the perfect antithesis to Bo's quiet approach, Deion talked and dressed to entertain. Bo just let his play do the work

Eddie George is a great athlete and an even more spectacular person. I was fortunate to meet him in Nashville airport one night. Tennessee had just lost a tough game to the Bengals. It was the night Corey Dillon ran for the most yards in NFL history (296). Many of the players were justifiably frustrated and down after a loss. Eddie could not have been kinder to my friend and I when we walked up to the team walking through the airport. 100% a class act. Thank you, Eddie, for being what a true “football hero” should be to kids.

The thing that always amazed me about Bo was how ungodly strong he was. The way he would snap bats like twigs was so unbelievable. I tried to do that a million different ways and all it did was hurt like hell. Never could come close to doing it and I was 6ft 230lbs at the time and in great shape. He was someone to be in awe of that's for sure.

But the big difference with Bo imo was he was an All Star in both sports when both sports were open to everyone. Thorpe dominated in Football and track, but was an average baseball player when everyone was hitting .300-.400. Thorpe was an absolute legend though, good call.

Had a 'Bo Knows' t-shirt and school book covers as a kid. Bo was huge back then. A two sport player that looked like Mike Tyson and always made it a mission to give encouraging advice to the youth of America. He's the reason I became a raider fan.
Bo Jackson is one of the greatest running backs of all time despite the fact that he played 10 games a year because he waited for the baseball season to end before joining the Raiders. I was watching when ne got hurt against the Bengals and was so shocked to find out how serious it was because it just looked like a normal tackle. My Son & I were at the game where Bo carried Bosworth into the end zone on MNF, but my Son & I, being big MLB fans, saw him play many times with the KC Royals against the Mariners. We were at the game when Bo climbed the wall & the game where he gunned down Harold Reynolds. (we went to a LOT of games lol) I saw Bo tag up on a Sacrifice Fly & my Son nearly lost his mind! I have never seen any human being move like that! When he hit the plate, he couldn't stop himself! Guys had to stop him from crashing into the dugout wall! Yeah, he ran that hard on a sac fly! Yes, the guy could accelerate so fast, so quick, he couldn't stop himself! This was a great big guy. Over 6' & 235! I went to games at the Kingdome every weekend & many times during the week, my Boy was growing up so it was a great time to be a Dad to my beautiful Boy, (who's now the dad of my two beautiful Grandsons) I was an avid runner at the time. All on a treadmill at a club. I ran 20 miles a week & played Racquetball too. NOT fast! 6, 7mph on a slight incline. Bo was hawking some treadmill company on a TV ad. Here's Bo running as fast as the thing would go, at the steepest incline the machine had! Loping along like it's nothing! On the roller! RIGHT DOWN on the last ROLLER!!! He was the most amazing human being I've personally seen with the exception of Wilt Chamberlain.

Bo lowkey would have eclipsed Jordan if he never got hurt. Him and Dion Sanders playing two sports with Nike and Baseball and football being the number 1 and 2 sports in America at the time would have made them mythical. Bo grind hurt and MJ winning championships coupled with Basketball trying to go global helped him tremendously.
D. Felix Photo The problem is Bo would have to win in those sports though (especially football where I believe he was better at than baseball). And even still I don't think he passes MJ. Deion didn't get hurt and wasn't able to do it.
@@jtremaine23 that is the biggest what if. I won't deny that but it was possible. Baseball is crazy and he could have ended up on the Yankees because money talks. Football it would have been tough to move him and running backs have short careers. Dion was too cocky and that wasn't necessarily a cross over attribute. He played on historic teams tho in both sports. If Bo was in Dion's situation with no injuries he would have been just as big as MJ. MJ got kind of lucky timing wise because the NBA was needing a star and Nike had the international appeal and marketing on lock. Baseball was still the biggest sport with football. MJ even played baseball simply for the visibility. Nowhere in history will a guy quit one sport and be able to be placed in another that quick. So we know that was set up for him with the Bulls owner and Nike.

If he stopped at 3 and fell off a cliff once the gambling suspension happened and his father got killed he would have one of the most tarnished names in sports history. Bo was loved regardless of records and he didn't need Spike Lee to infiltrate the black community

I'm not saying that it's not true but I can't go with it until I see some proof...I have to go with him retiring on his own after his dad died. Just to be clear--I was a Bo Jackson fan (even outside of Tecmo Bowl). He was one of my favorite NFL players until he got hurt but Jerry Rice was #1 on the list before he won any SB's.

Played golf with Bo years ago, (Cog Hill) we’re on a short par 4 and Bo laces a 3 iron off the tee like a missile stiffing the pin 6ft away. I said damn Bo I’ve never seen anyone stiff the pin on this hole with an iron ? He said “ Bo knows his irons” hahaha great day

I remember watching him on TV when he played at Auburn.
It was like he was at a track meet.
He would get the ball, and head down field, and there he goes with everyone chasing him, and never catching him.
In the "30 for 30, You Don't Know Bo", on ESPN, the announcer guy for the K.C. Royals talked about his first news conference after he was brought up. The reporters asked him, "What are you going to do now?"
Bo said, "I'm going to go take batting practice." He took a couple of pitches, then proceeded to hit a ball on top of the crown at the top of the scoreboard in center field!
There has never been another athlete like him, before, or since.
He was incredible! He still is! A real nice Man!

I really want to meet Bo some day. I have all of his playing cards going back to the 80s, several signed cards etc. When I was kid I was amazed and I didn't even know jack about sports. He was the Tiger before sports we elevated to the level of the 2000s. He is one of the rare purely God gifted phenoms of sports and still remains humble. True gentleman!

Bo Jackson biggest down fall was he was so fast and strong. No Injury he would have records in yards td's and that just football. Ne was the best player in my generation.
