I built this almost exactly as you describe about 2 years ago. I used 4x4 posts since that was what was available at Lowe’s. Because 4x4s didn’t allow enough depth to contain the bamboo in the frame, I simply attached a 2x4 of corresponding height to each fence post on the back. I used dark bamboo, but realized that the stain used by the dealer (bamboo company in California) faded quickly. So, I just used more dark stain, then used marine polyurethane to seal and make a bit shiny. Still looks great. Offers privacy to our pool, and I’ve had comments regarding how “professional” the fence looks. I’m going to build another one, starting today. Just revisiting your video for a review of all the steps. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your experience. How is the poly seal holding up? I was considering doing the exact same treatment but couldn't find much information online about this. It made sense to me but I figured I would ask someone who has actually done this before.
Hah, I love the clamp trick at 3:02. Man, anyone putting up a fence by themselves needs to know this trick, wish I learned that 10 years ago. Excellent!
I am so glad I found this - I’ve been looking for a good looking and affordable fencing option and this is it! Now just have to figure out how to tear out my old, ugly chain link fence.
One word of caution though. I ordered the 1" thick bamboo and some of the bamboo was as thick as 1 1/2". Visually it's no problem, but it did affect the calculation a little from front to back of each panel. Also, although I built this almost entirely myself (and I'm a 52 year old 110lb woman, I did need help lifting the bamboo onto the temporary rail during install, so a helper is advisable!).
Carla , what was your prior experience level? I want to do this. Out of budget limitation, as in I have no money saved for hiring.... LOL... But do have tools galore...
Sandra Parisi Sandra, you can do this! You’ll need exactly the tools and screws you see the man in the video using. So take it step by step, take your time, and enlist a helper to move the bamboo rolls and set the posts. Hopefully your soil is not too hard or rocky so that you can use simple a post hold digger to dig your holes.
Looks nice, gave me some good ideas too! Thank you, great info and very cool & sturdy. BTW the 5' x 5' cedar posts probably aren't gotten at the "big-box" stores, excellent high-quality choice!
thank you for posting this video - fence looks great. Going to put one up similar to it. tell your neighbor I will give him $150.00 for the boat if he'll tow it to the Florida Keys.
Use galvanized steel shoes in concrete, impregnated timber and carbonized bamboo and it will last for 30 years. The screws and nails you drove in from the top will drill water pipes into the wood. Nevertheless, I like the construction, shape and finishing. It looks solid and neat.
That was very good. Id like to do something similar in Australia but live in a very hot climate and am being careful not to stop breeze flow as I face East. The breeze is a life saver here. Do you find it stops breeze?
I love your Bamboo fence. Let me know when you come to Phoenix, AZ and I would love an estimate. You can stay at my house. You are Great! Regards, Julie
Hi, I have a question if you can answer? I put up this same style bamboo fence about 8 years ago modelled after yours here. Great idea! It looked great afterwards and has withstood lots of wind. I used cedar for the uprights and for the horizontal sections. And I painted all of the boards. However, the horizontal boards have rotted and care literally crumbling away. My question is: What type of wood did you use for the horizontal trim pieces? Thank you
LOVE HOW HE USES THE WHOLE PROJECT DWELL ON HIS NEIGHBORS BOAT.LIKE WHAT?MY NEIGHBORS JUST LIKE THAT.WORRY BOUT YOURS.COOL FENCE THO.I LIKE THE BIGGER BAMBOO MYSELF.SPLIT.
Hi I Love this, looking at so many different styles of fencing. I live in Canada would this work with our -40c that we can get doing 100 ft Thanks great video p.s my neighbor put up a cedar rail fence up on our property line as I call it the F-U fence lol thanks again can I buy this bamboo roll in Canada?
I'm getting ready to make panels for my deck. I'll just scale down what you did. I really enjoyed your video, but I died a little when you used your level to tap a board in.
@@markpousseur9441 you can treat the bottom of the post that will be in the ground with tar, etc. before cementing. Great job, but his posts were wobbly, looked unstable.
That fence will rot out because it's untreated cedar if you want to prevent that I recommend using cooper green on the part that is going to be in the ground but otherwise just use pressure treated wood and I recommend putting it in concrete anyways it makes for a more rigid fence
Very Nice!!! I'm trying to block out my Neighbors and keep our dogs from seeing each other... This looks beautiful and will go well in my front yard... I will have to lower it some as I can only go 4 feet. how long are your 5x5's and how many inches did you put into the ground? I have well draining sandy soil. I think I would need Quikrete. Thank you so much, I love this!
We have an existing 3' chainlink fence with 6' bamboo roll affixed to it (by the previous homeowners). Is there a way to frame out this existing fence using the existing chainlink posts for support?
Why not add a middle rail for extra support. Windy weather will flex the centre and if someone accidentally pushes or falls into the Bamboo, it won't flex or distort. The vertical posts needed postctete or concrete mix. Didn't see you do any of that or even put peebles under the post for water drainage.
Just wondering, when you drilled into the Bamboo to make it tight against the frame, did you screw into every piece of Bamboo, or 1 in 10? 1 in 20? Many thanks for the informative video. I just might take this project on.
This is Bamboo fencing is PERFECT for covering the back of our neighbors hideous fence. We are going to use the existing metal poles that are sunk in cement. Where can we get 4 or more panels of the rolled bamboo fencing that is capped at the top?
Seems like all bamboo has a slight inconsistency to the diameter. Some smaller diameters mixed in there."the nature of the bamboo business "so probably will get the one inch.those 3/4 inch rolls seem to have probably some half inch peices mixed in there.Lol.the one inch more likely to have " acceptable thiner pieces" Lol
I went to a lumber yard and asked for a 5x5 post and they looked at me like I was stupid and on drugs and some old timer who worked their said he had never even heard of a 5 x 5 post. I live in Oregon.
seems a shame to spend all that money on a bamboo fence and not use bamboo poles to support it. Now it looks like a half bamboo/ half regular wood fence.
+bill bixby Yes i agree wrap the posts in durable plastic before burying the posts….even a shrink wrap would be ideal and trim above the ground line after backfilling.
Beautiful workmanship 🧡
Commentary is fantastic. Easy to follow guide with a wealth of tips peppered throughout the video.

Would you mind sharing where you buy? So many diff choices and sizes and makers :(
Awesome!! Thank you for your time. I will be doing this to my yard soon!!

This was a fantastic video. I copied it step by step to make my own 50' fence and it turned out great!
how is it holding up after 6 years? Is it somewhat durable? I want to make one myself but not sure how long will it last
I am so glad I found this - I’ve been looking for a good looking and affordable fencing option and this is it! Now just have to figure out how to tear out my old, ugly chain link fence.
How did it go? Curious to see your results. I have an old chain link fence as well
You can cover the chain link fence with the bamboo.
Wow! What a beautiful fence! Love it!
Thank you for this! This has the potential to make the fencing for my new house beautiful to install.

Excellent video! You explained every step so clearly, I feel that I could do make my own fence.
So beautiful!

Thank you for the guide .
I love this... will this last longer than the privacy fence panels? I like this look better
I'm doing it. Great video!! Thank you for the education!
Beautiful job.
Nice Job!
just what I was looking for. thanks!

My brick wall was damage by my neighbour,so took it down it was over 8 ft.,and have not replaced it since, because the formation base is bricks,
I'm getting ready to make panels for my deck. I'll just scale down what you did. I really enjoyed your video, but I died a little when you used your level to tap a board in.
does the cedar need to be dipped in tar to keep it from rotting in the ground first?? just asking...🌲🌲🌲
I bought several panels at a deep discount and want to make a chicken coop out of them. Any ideas on how to get started?
Everything looked great except no cement in the post holes 🤔
Jason Branson concrete kills the life span of the posts. It traps water and causing faster decay
@@markpousseur9441 you may be correct ,plus you don't have any buried cement everywhere
@@markpousseur9441 you can treat the bottom of the post that will be in the ground with tar, etc. before cementing. Great job, but his posts were wobbly, looked unstable.

@bamboofencer will this bamboo hold up in northern Indiana where temps are extreme in both regards to cold and hot???
excelente ideia .Parabéns pelo trabalho maravilhoso e pelo recurso utilizado para a construção do mesmo.
Where did u get the cedar and where did u get the bamboo roll cause I would love to try this idea out myself.

1 screw every 12"
How is it? Is it durable? Isn't it spoiled in water?
Can you send a link of the posts you use or something similar
did you trim these 2x4's on tablesaw first? Very square.
is the website still up? says the link is dead. Where can I buy the bamboo rolls
www.foreverbamboo.com That's where I got mine. They ship all over the USA.

Good video I saved it for reference I have a question: the top of your fence with your two-by-four is the cap angled or just flat on top?
Flat
What makes it a bamboo friendly fence and not a bamboo unfriendly fence?
love it
How is that going to stay up without cement??!
His posts looked wobbly, unstable in the dirt. I would cement them in.
Gracias por las ideas
how long will this last? is bamboo treated to prevent insect damage? cost?

@@axlent123 only seen posts in 4'x4', 6'x6', etc.
divino, me encantó!
What is wrong with making the post cemented to the ground?
How long is the post
Who gives a shit about their privacy they don't care about yours Great job... I would have put post in cement.
I got 90 feet to frame, with diy what do you think I am looking at cost wise?
Greetings from Brasil, txs
Excellent
How do I cut the top of my bamboo fence from the top. I need to cut one section by 1 foot?
thanks!!!
Excelente
Would 500 feet of this stuff be expensive?
Nice!
very well....
Anyone in 2021?
I could see right through it.
Muito bom mesmo.
NIce fence, but the cap board should be set at an angle to shed water.
