This design of the Koetsuji fence has been around for hundreds of years.
However, it is so sophisticated that it does not look out of place even today.
I felt that we should preserve this design and the skills to make it.

A work of art! The labour involved to create this is intense.
There is a beautiful balance of 'masculine' and 'feminine' elements in this garden! The squares and rectangles of the paving with right-angled corners and the flowing shapes of the roof tiles and the koetsu-ji gaki! Wonderful harmonious vibe and stunning work!
That's exactly what it is!
The contrast between the straight lines of the Kenninji fence and cedar and the curved lines of this Koetsuji fence is really beautiful.
They really bring out the best in each other.

The amount of work and detail is amazing; it blows my mind how they lined up all the strips of bamboo to cover the plastic pipe! It looks like a really thick bamboo stalk! These guys are true craftsmen! By the way, thank you so much for showing where they got the bamboo, I've always been interested in that part of the process! The skill and patience this project demands is incredible and it’s exactly what this team brings with each and every step. Cutting that bamboo into those thin strips, then keeping them numbered and together. WoW! Making sure each strip was meticulously pushed and pulled to be precisely lined up. Strong work everyone.
