- Sorry to keep you waiting so long. This is the second episode of my previous video on building a Japanese garden.
This time we are making a bamboo fence called Otsugaki. I hope you enjoy this video.

今、コロナ禍の影響で早期退職しました。自宅に面した裏山の手入れをして綺麗になったから、自立している大木を柱にして、近所の竹林の伐採している竹でフェンスを作れないか❓と思案していたところです。竹との間に焼きを入れた木材を利用するデザインが最高です。
ネジで止めるとか考えましたが、竹を編むという方法があったかと感動しました。ありがとう😊
Hello from America. I built a bamboo roof and fence last year after being inspired from this video. Next year we are starting a bamboo farm on 5 acres for the lumber.
good idea ! i think i will "farm" bamboo too in my garden ahah, i'm in europe and bamboo still kinda expensive specially when brought in big size
@lainiwaku it's grows super fast. So you won't have any trouble. Make sure to use barriers So it don't over take your property

I went to a lot of nursery/landscape trade shows until 2006 in eastern and southern New England.
There was a vendor named "The Bamboo Fencer" that looked like he knew what he was doing.

Specialist job, nicely done! I guess the bamboo needs to be green for optimal use? TBH I think I’d have made the fence line taller to offer privacy from being overlooked by the 1st floor buildings. Again though, guessing that there are by-laws on fence height.

The bamboo fence will still rot. In Japan, there is a sense of value in enjoying the process of deterioration.
You can apply Solignum to prevent termites
How to save plants from heavy sun light place....I mean is it there any natural plants which can grow easily any place/ less soil & heavy sun light place ...and help to get shadows and cold( sorry my English so poor )

The support poles are just stuck in the dirt, no cement footings? I think they will be tilting and moving around in no time.
If the dirt is packed around the the poles, they become quite sturdy. In a lot of wood building I've seen, wood imbedded in cement tends to break down more quickly than when you pack clay/dirt with a tamper until it gets quite hard and dense. It is remarkably stable.
The pillars of the bamboo fence are basically cement-free. This is because it is assumed that the bamboo and other materials will deteriorate and be rebuilt. In many bamboo fences, auxiliary supports are attached to prevent them from falling.
