    I've probably made this comment before, but the reason your videos are so great Matti is because you don't just re-hash everything that's already been done. You make difficult subjects easy to understand and you make tutorials that separate you from the crowd. I feel like I'm well versed in Premiere but I just learned something myself! Kudos! :)

    The first time I really noticed this effect and that I thought "Shiettt that's intense" was while watching LoTR - Fellowship of the Ring when they were hunting by nazguls in the forest.
    It's really nice, but you have to use it for a purpose!

    Alfred Hitchcock invented that shot and used it in the film "Vertigo" which is why its called the Vertigo effect. Peter Jackson also used it in LOTR.

    Perfect tutorial! Thank you. One of my favorite type of shots to see on movies. Yes, I know the Jaws scene but the first time I noticed it was actually on E.T. And my favorite movie that used the trick was Road to Perdition. Perfect way of capturing the villain. Thank again Matti! Stay awesome my friend!

  • @GSImproved90
    @GSImproved90 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    One of my favorite uses of this effect was in the movie Spy Game. There's an explosion, and right after is a shot of Robert Redford (Nathan Muir) reacting to it from where he is on top of a building. I think using it sparingly and in this manner is super effective, because you the viewer is caught up in the intensity of the situation and so drawn to his reaction that you don't really notice the the effect on a conscious level.

    I love that effect and know exactly what scene in Jaws you are talking about. I am going to go try this this weekend although I have always heard it called a dolly zoom. There is a really cool shot of it in Netflix's Daredevil. I can remember the episode, put it was in a police station. Maybe someone here does. I have also seen it done in reverse to shrink the environment around the character also pretty cool. I wonder if it is just done by zooming in? That would definitely require 4K footage. Have you done the reverse before?
