An all-black reboot of Dynasty would be a horrible marketing idea. Not just for Dynasty, but for any show previously known to include black AND white characters. It has never worked, and it never will. Hollywood keeps trying it and they end up losing millions each time. Steel Magnolias, Honeymooners, all tanked at the box office. You don't mess with the original recipe of a hit movie or show. That'd be like trying to "reboot" The Jeffersons with an All-White cast. It's ridiculous. And it doesn't sell ads. The reason the Dominique role was so delicious is because she was a black woman in a white man's world, sticking up her finger and saying "I'm not your equal. I'm superior to you!" That's why it worked. And I give Ms. Carroll credit for basically creating the character. She thinks like a producer.
Empire is the ANTITHESIS of what I'm talking about. To me EMPIRE is more like Beverly Hillbillies than Dynasty. It's more like Footballer's Wives than Dynasty. It's more ghetto fabble-iss, than Dynasty. It's NOT Dynasty.
plutorama For the record, the all African American remake of Steel Magnolias was a tv movie for Lifetime and it was not a flop. The film scored huge ratings... the 3rd highest viewed Lifetime original. The movie also received SAG and Emmy nods.
Diahann Carroll was, in my opinion, the Classy counterpart to Joan, in Dynasty. Both Diva's
