  • Yashica Dutt, Author of 'Coming out as a Dalit' has written in the New York Times about caste based discrimination in the Indian Diaspora, referencing a survey that shows that 67% of Dalits in the diaspora have faced Caste-harassment at work. Her article comes after California regulators brought a lawsuit against Tech giant CISCO. She speaks to Barkha Dutt from New York.

Nonetheless in U.S.A, having regard to prompt action and dispensation of justice all those who with impunity indulge in Caste Based Discrimination and Bias will be severely punished and could be Deported as Well.

First deny a group of people their educational rights in the name of caste based reservations at Universities & jobs. Even then if some of them tried hard and made a place for them abroad, go there and haunt them. Caste based reservations are reverse discrimination. A rich dalit enjoys reserved seats at universities and jobs but a poor and talented person is denied his educational rights just because he was born in the so called upper caste. Shame. First establish equality at home and then fight for so called equality abroad. Demolish caste based reservations.

    3. Donate 1 acre of ur forefather land to a dalit family.
    4. Stop brahmins from becoming priest.

In UK if any Indian Employee is discriminated on the any of the above ground they also can approach the Court under Equality Act. The Act provides a legal framework to protect the rights of individuals and advance equality of opportunity for all. It provides Britain with a discrimination law which protects individuals from unfair treatment and promotes a fair and more equal society.

@Gun Slinger Dumbass check the Subject ranking of old IITs. Overall they aren't in top 100 because they are only technological institutes and not Universities with different fields. Also methodology is quite flawed because the ranking considers total students (which most top institutes have over 30k to 40k but in one iit it's only 5k-6k) then international faculty, which iits have too but less in number. Also in perception they score little low because people like you start "hating" them for no reason out of jealousy. But in employbility and Research citations, they shine out. Also do check the ranking of IITs in competetive coding websites. Many IITians win international tournaments in different fields, last year a team from IIT Madras came in top 10 in the world (only one from Whole Asia) in Hyperloop Competition by Elon Musk. Last year 36 students from IIT Roorkee alone got selected for Google summer of code. There are many. You're overlooking all these out of ignorance and hatred. smh.
And commiting suicide, lmao. How many died you tell me ?? Placements are good because they're more employable then you. Also IIT has churned out 3rd highest number of unicorn startups in the world. They have contributed to nearly 1 trillion USD in the whole world. So keep your sh*thole opinion to yourself.

Myself a brahmin. When I studied law attracted by the small hill with western ghats a little far off as background and the landscape surrounding nature's abundance I chose to go by 4 pm daily for study alone on the top of a medium elevation.
A small village with thatched houses midway for you to cross. One evening I stopped to get tea from a small tea-shop. The man shocked me with his reply: 'Saheb .....you should not drink here' and refused. He even said he used to see me daily and advised not to come.
I asked him why, believe it not, having heard no such refusals being a student. He did not reply. I insisted and took the tea.
On return a senior close friend clarified it is a dalit colony. I asked him 'so what?' Why not they live among others just like others. Who are we to decide?
He gently advised..(not a brahmin himself)..... Friend I know you......but as it is now there are every possibility of murders anytime during clashes at flashpoints among them or with others resulting in police taking the area under their control. They would question you too and may at least add you as eye witness as the people are emotionally extreme going into sudden rage..that is the reason tea shop man warned you. Stop going.

Compare it with the ones with general category. Take the percentage. Compare it with the caste breakup in Indian population. You will get your answer.
In my IIT dept too there are 46 PhD scholars. 4-5 (10%) are OBC, 1(0.02%) is SC, rest all are from General category. None are from ST or minority. On the contrary in Indian population non-general population is around 75%, with a major chunk by the OBC castes.

On top of it OBC reservations are also skewed. In a report released just a few days ago, only 1% of OBC caste get around 40% of reservation seats. Rest all are just not getting the benefit. Also a bit privileged castes like Patels and Marathas have also now agitated to get into reservations, just so that they can still preserve their casteist structure.
Even the top beaurocratic positions in India, are dominated by ones from upper castes. The Indian Army still recruits based on caste, and you want to say casteism doesn't exist.

Liked the interview but may be she is missing a very pertinent point here...!! She goes on to say that 90 percent of indian residents in the US are from the "upper castes" which speaks of the privilege and wealth that they wield and that 90 percent of dalits dont have those vistas open for them. I totally disagree on this point. First of all 90 percent of upper caste people in the US have also slogged their way to get there... moreover because of the obnoxious reservation system in India the talented people have nothing left for them in India. No jobs, no good colleges.. so they are in a way forced to look out for jobs elsewhere. Have these dalits ever resented the concept of reservation. If caste is continuing by birth so is reservation... so even if both parents of a dalit student are IAS officers and he is a graduate from a prestigious college(where also he got admission by virtue of his caste) will he cease to get reservation? Answer is a big NO. Dalits would love to take reservation benefits which is just another mechanism to perpetuate caste system but would feel discriminated if someone shows them the mirror. U cant have best of both the worlds.. if u really want caste to end in India, ending reservation is the only answer. Only then they would have a reason to not tell their caste. Else it will go on. We had friends in school whom we never bothered to know which caste they belong to... but when they got into prestigious medical colleges with half the score as us... we automatically learnt about their caste... n that's how a Indian student is first introduced to caste. So these dalits should stop taking reservation benefits or start taking pride in who they are. Cribbing and whining won't help. USA is not obligated to treat you a certain way just becoz u belong to a supposedly "lower caste".

So you are saying that YOU will stop discriminating if reservations are scrapped? How will you guarantee that, if I may ask?Given the fact that atleast 40%(85% make the population) of the lower caste don't avail reservations but still are discriminated against? Reservation is a tool to guarantee that not someone's mere clouded-by-priviledge words.
