I have always wondered why the post-alveolar sibilants 'ш' and 'ж' sometimes have pure 'retroflex' pronunciation; this lesson explains it well... by the way, if Ш, Ж, Ц are always 'hard', and Щ, Ч are always 'soft', Am I right in saying that the two 'remaining' sibilants 'с' and 'з' are 'hard' as well, unless they precede any 'soft' vowel or the soft sign, in which case they get palatalized? For instance: сын (hard с), письмо (soft c)...

“С”, and “З” can be hard or soft. Refer to the video about palatalization in my channel, please.
