Workshop Security - Shed Alarms

  • After an attempted break in to my workshop recently, I've put a few measures in place to stop this from happening again. This is one of them; shed alarms. Very inexpensive and in conjunction with CCTV this should secure a workshop more than just having it locked.
    Here is the link to the one I bought, but shop around.
    www.amazon.co....
    This is obviously not going to be as good as a house alarm. Just demonstrating how useful this is for anyone who doesn’t have that option.

    Thanks for the heads up on this alarm. I am currently designing a system for my workshop, but this is ideal for meantime (My system has a 130db truck horn inside the w/shop to destroy any intruders eardrums!) just ordered from amazon.

    Pit Bulls are plentiful. All you have to do is feed one and you have a friend for life. Make him/her a nice bed in your workshop and just wait for the screams. :)

      Hi, first it’s ‘She’... Second, I’ve hardly told anyone about my security system especially as my workshop is wired to my home alarm. This is aimed at people who don’t have the option or funds to do a house alarm... but thanks for the comment. I’m sure people will find it very useful.

      Process for Code setups:
      Set your own code by first pressing the unit's default code: " 0000 + * ",
      Now enter your own code by pressing for example: " 123 + * "
      To arm: press 123 + # > red light comes on for 10 seconds
      To disarm: press 123 +# > TWICE!!
      Red light then flashes for 10 seconds and the unit is closed down.
      Hope that helps 🙂

    The instant setup for the gate that can only be opened inside - what happens when it is armed and you switch it to delayed?
    IE I hop over the gate, switch it to delayed, can I let my mate in and shut the gate without it going off?

    • @shelly87uk
      @shelly87uk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it needs to be disarmed before you can change the mode. As soon as you open it regardless of the mode it’s in it will trigger the alarm notification and eventually go off if the code isn’t entered. Hope that makes sense

    So you put this on the inside? That way you set it on "delay" and it gives you enough time to get out?
    Also for how long do you think the batteries will last? Can it scream for a whole day; for example?

    • @shelly87uk
      @shelly87uk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have plenty of time to leave. I think around 10-15 seconds. Just like a house alarm. Yes on this model it keeps going off until you enter the code once triggered. I haven’t changed the batteries in either of mine yet but I don’t know how long they would last for continuously sounding. I suppose that would depend on the batteries, but it’s definitely set my mind at ease. It’s really loud. If it sounded and you were home, you would hear it. Hope that helps you.

    • @shelly87uk
      @shelly87uk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There are settings for an instant alarm and one for a delayed one. I use the instant one on a door that shouldn’t be opened and the delayed on to get in my workshop so I’ve time to put the code in.

    Don’t use dummy CCTV cameras. Those red lights are not at all realistic. There isn’t a single real security camera that has a flashing red light on it.
    The flashing light makes it look fake.

    • @shelly87uk
      @shelly87uk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think if somebody really wanted to break in to any shed or workshop and brings the right stuff, then there’s not much that will stop them. This would hopefully be a deterrent for an opportunist thief used in conjunction with a good quality hasp and decent locks to give people a sense of security rather than just having a padlock. I have a couple of padlocks on mine too, one of which has an alarm in it which activates if it is moved too much. I recommend that too. The point is to alert you and scare them off.

    break in & just take battery out.

    • @shelly87uk
      @shelly87uk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If somebody broke in they’re not likely to expect that to be there. If they broke in and thought to take them out in the few seconds they would have, the screws stop easy access to the batteries and the alarm will have long sounded before they can remove them. Obviously I’d still go with a house alarm, but this is demonstrating an alternative where that might not be possible for everyone.
