Events which women have experienced countless times. Or maybe, they might have related to the man who hasn't done anything that weird but is being framed with emotional music to be a threat, despite her not communicating any direct dismissal of him, throughout the trailer. It's unsettling.

I had to double check if this is really Anna's directing debut. I'm absolutely blown away, I didn't even think that a serial killer story is going to be Anna's first ever movie as a director, I didn't know if she could pull it off. I always thought that if she ever directs a movie she might start with something simple like a romcom or drama but looking at this, I'm definitely intrigued

The trailer isn't showing them on a date. This is them on the backlot after filming wraps, where they are supposed to exchange numbers and organise the date. It's showing how she got the creeps and tries to get out of the date by giving him a fake number. Then you see her walking through the backlot (you can see the studios in the background). This is all consistent with what actually happened.

I always thought that if she ever direct a movie, her first movie could be a romcom or a drama movie instead she took the risk and does a serial killer movie as her directing debut. Amazing! 😁

She's a horror movie fan, she says so in her memoir "Scrappy Little Nobody". Apparently that rant in the 2nd Twilight movie from Anna's character as she and Bella come out of the movies was all her.
It's so evident that this movie was directed by a woman. How subtly she brings out the horrors underneath and also respectful of the victims and not making a spectacle out of their r@pe and murder

Looks genuinely intriguing, the direction is looking really good from these few shots, the premise is insane, the fact that its a true story has me super curious how it all plays out, and also Anna Kendrick taking a very serious, likely more subtle performance, is awesome too.
I once knew a girl who gave out the phone number to the local K-Mart whenever a creepy guy asked for her number. I asked her why that number, why not use a fake number. She said this way she'd remember it and that guys can sometimes tell if you're just making up a number on the spot.

Yea, I know this is based on the true story of Cheryl Bradshaw, the woman who matched with serial killer Rodney Alcala on The Dating Game. Interestingly enough, though: in real life, Cheryl never actually went on a date with Rodney because she got a creepy vibe from him.

Thank you! I have been aware of this movie being made for a very long time but was and am totally confused because she barely even met him for a few minutes and never even went on the date or interacted with him outside the television studio. So this seems to be 90% fiction.

From being a Broadway star to "Twilight" to "Up In The Air" to starred in a lot of musical movies to "A Simple Favor" to being cast against type in "Alice, Darling" to now making a serial killer movie as her directorial debut, Anna Kendrick truly never lost her A game. She has such a diverse and incredible filmography, we deserve to appreciate her talent a lot more 🙌

This makes me so sad for women of that era. They didn't have cell phones. They didn't have help or 911 at the ready if they were in trouble. They had to hope a pay phone or a Good Samaritan was by some miracle nearby, or that they could get away. This is one of those somewhat rare times where I'm grateful for today's technology.

I met Anna Kendrick at a Q&A for her film "Alice, Darling" 2 years ago (asked her a ?, etc.). Super chill and high energy creative, love her work. Can't wait for this!

For those who don’t know, this based on the story of the serial killer Rodney Alcala who appeared as a bachelor on a dating show in the 70s while he was active. He won a date with one of the women on the show. This movie however is NOT based on true events as Alcala never actually went on the date with the woman from the show. She had actually decided not to go through with it because he creeped her out when they spoke back stage.
So why make the movie then? Because that it not the true story
@@elirodriguez9717 That's why they always say "based on a true story" or "inspired by a true story." It grants creative license. "The Strangers" is "based on a true story" from the director about a strange woman knocking on the door of his family home when he was young, ostensibly looking for someone but he implies that she was actually casing homes for burglary. That's the only "true" part of the film.
@@elirodriguez9717 Best guess is that the events depicted in the movie are going to be inspired by the stories of how he killed some of his other victims and the whole "dating show" bit is just the set-up for the story. He was given the name "The Dating Show Killer" so I think it's kind of unavoidable when making a movie about it. It's still a really disturbing case, hopefully they're accurate with the other details.

I don’t normally see these kinds of films but I love Anna Kendrick and the trailer is so chilling that I’ll make an exception. Obviously the end is frightening as hell but even before then is building so much tension in a fantastic way. That moment when his whole face/persona shifts after she laughs at him and the way he put the drink down on the table. Her subtle yet desperate “no” head shake at the waitress. Oh man.

I watched Into the Woods the other day, it’s an amazing movie and she and Emily Blunt gave the best performances in it in my opinion. I started watching this trailer without reading the description and thought I was only imagining the scary vibes but then he said “it’s in the bag” and, well... yeah. Ohhh my god. My stomach is clenching in fear and panic seeing this situation, all her expressions flitting through her face, her subtle shaking breath at the end, the way the scene is shot....holy crap. Any woman who has ever been in a frightening scenario with some creep feels this in her bones. p.s. I just now remembered I heard on the Megyn Kelly show that this movie was coming out after the had discussed the case this actually involves. Makes me even more supremely creeped out.
It's chilling to know that this movie is based on a truer story. Trailer looks awesome. Now Netflix is on top for making bone chilling series and movies that are based on true events.

Watched this one, some of the scene representations are absolutely sniffing. The jump from one scene to the another indicated swift story telling without slagging off the pace. This movie is largely b.s. After watching it, I’m not even sure what the point of making it was. It definitely was not to tell the story of Rodney Alcala or his victims. I guess it was to tell the story of Cheryl, who had barely any interaction with Alcala at all. Not sure why anyone would care about that. Weird movie.

Correct me if somehow I only read articles that omitted this info but from what I’ve read, they never actually went out on a date. Apparently the moment that he started speaking with her, she immediately felt that there was something creepy about him. From what I’ve read, her contact with him ended after a brief interaction in the green room. She even called the shows producer and said she did not want to see him after the show. The producer was supportive and that appears to be the end of it, as far as her involvement is concerned. So this appears to not be totally on point with the actual true story, but that’s nothing new in Hollywood. I’m a Kendrick fan though and I’m interested to see her directing style.
