One thing I remember about Chris's (LetsDig18) interview on your podcast is him saying how getting a haul truck changed their job opportunities and opened up avenues to jobs they wouldn't have been able to do before getting it. Hope that's the case for you as well. Anyway, Bubba Dumper is the perfect name for the truck, lol.
YES!! You KNOW you did good with this monster! And when the wife is already naming it, it has a home. You will oil it, grease, and love it just like you do all your other XL children! Good purchase!
0:03 if you fix the exhaust you should keep it straight piped so the engine has less backpressure but add a simple Catalysator- no sut filter or def fluid , no muffler, none of that shit - but a simple catalysator to save the bees (unironically thats important)
I worked for a quarry in the late 1990s, each winter. The owner bought four new Volvo haul trucks just like yours. He was buying one each Dec. IRC they where right around $125K each new. He liked them so much he still is running those same trucks today. They have over 30,000 hours on them now. About every ten years or so he completely rebuilds them down to the bare frame. He says it costs him around $50K to do that but it is way cheaper than buying new with all of the computer issues. Interesting thing is he has to re-floor them every 4-5 years. The limestone rock wears them out. IRC the floor is 3/4 thick plate. Remember these trucks average 3-4 loads an hour all year long. Mike I think you will be more than happy with this new purchase. It will open up some new doors for additional business. Lt. Dan is a neat project truck but it really was not made for heavy work day in and day out. These Volvo haul trucks are built for that job. My son has two Deere haul trucks and I think the Volvos are a little more dependable.
One heck of a buy. Definitely needs an updated exhaust system for the long haul. Needs a little love like you said but can see that it’s going to become a much needed addition to your overall fleet into your ever growing and expanding business. Here’s wishing you the best of expanding your self into a very prosperous future for you and your family and friends.
Like to add my two cents worth to several other comments. Your diamond exhaust, straighten the corners of the hood and new grill, and a paint job and you will have a great looking truck. Think you did well on the purchase.
Mike I think that you have found one of those diamonds in the ruff. Once you do your thing in the shop it will give you some good years. I hope it pays for itself quickly. Looking forward to the repair videos and then the many job videos to come. Teach Jenna to drive it. It would be cool to see her on the job with you. Also she could do some videos from her perspective of your jobs also. Especially on any farm upgrades. The Dirty Perfect Family fixing the farm!👩🏼🌾👨🌾🎉🎊👍
We all know a straight pipe of that old diesel sounds sweet. But in the long run i feel it would get old real fast like a few hours. If you have buildings around its just going to bounce off them and echo and become even louder
If you treat this old boy the way you do the rest of your fleet. It's going to cuddle up and give you many years of good service. It looks like it sat outside most of it life . A roof over it's cab might be just the thing for it in its latter years LOL Looks like a diamond in the rough. Good luck and congrats
Well, you keep getting bigger, and heavier equipment, gonna half to upgrade your securement devices, like 4 ,1/2inch chains, and 4,5/8 binders,,that way you don't temp the ire of Officer Hoover!! That was my set-up with an assortment of 3/8 chains and binders, never had a problem with DOT inspectors on load securement,,Bubba Dumper found itself a new, good home!!😎😎😎
I'd check the breathers on the front axle incase there blocked pressurising pushing oil out seals thinking that both seals leaking together at same time 🤔
I think with a little TLC and upcoming projects the new Volvo will become a valuable asset to for fleet on larger projects especially on pond/lake builds where you won't have to push as much with the 850's and they can be used foe leveling out and rough grading, which will hopefully improve production ! We all know that time is Money ! 😎
Well now Mike Simons, I must admit when I had found out that you had won the bid on this I was kind of disappointed from what you had said in the past oh, you had considered one of these and decided to go the Lieutenant Dan route kind of an in-between a Haul truck and a dump truck. So I was bummed out when I had heard that you had won the bid on this I had tears for Lieutenant Dan. So after this video I feel better about the situation I am excited about the Haul truck also not as much as Lieutenant Dan it is there. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall when you told Jenna or if you did not tell her when you showed it to her, hope there is a video to follow on this LOL. I very much enjoy the straight pipes on it I hope it stays that way you might have to buy a pair of earmuffs for the driver. One thing I would like you to put on your to-do list for the Haul truck is 2 sand the black part of the hood to get most of the rust off and then put a rust preventative on it and painted the original black.
Nice addition to fleet. I got to run a 35 ton for couple loads in Canada logging camp, amazing tool. Agility for the size and capacity was impressive. Big piece to work on, should make some good content for us to watch
I love old volvo equipment their engines are superb 👌 that unit you have is sounds and looks to be the 13ltr TD13KF they was 327hp to 425hp the only difference was fuel pump and on the 425hp injectors they are pretty much bullet proof even the 9.6ltr or td10KF engine which is at 256hp. Brakes you said it yourself simple to fix air over hydraulic and she is ready to work I'd do the wheel seals before it does any serious heavy work but yeah can wait. And Lt Dan will be a awesome bit of kit when finished and the best dump truck you have used with its set up with the lift axle and all wheel drive
For me personally, I like a straight piped diesel. From what you've done to your other trucks, I think you do too. Just to keep in line with the others, I think you need to fab up one of your diamond stacks for Bubba Dumper when you rework the exhaust. Also, that vacant spot where the radio and the speaker used to be would be the perfect spot to put in a CB radio with an external speaker. Not expensive to do and would be a big plus for working with the others on a site. No more grasping for a hand-held and worrying about the batteries. Other than a good paint job to take care of the rust and make Bubba a sharp boy, it appears that you've got yourself a good truck there. Looking forward to seeing more of him in the future.
I think he would be able to do gmrs radio instead of cb and still be able to communicate with the handheld units. CB is good but then you'd have to put a CB on each piece of equipment.
I wish I was closer to you. I would fix those front side panels and grill no problem. Put a muffler on it. Listening to that thing roar all day will wear you out. It's not a hot rod.
Bubba Dump definitely need some exhaust work. I think you will tire real quick listening to the straight pipe when you operate it for a full day of hard work. Looking forward to seeing the videos of it getting back into shape and putting in a hard days work.
I've spent a lot of hours running tractors with straight pipes. The pipes need to be taller than your head, but that's same as muffler. Plus, there is something enjoyable about good sounding pipes.
(16:00) Lt. Dan, don't worry. "Elephant" was just a figure of speech. You are still loved and will be able to come out from hiding under the blanket very soon.
I wouldn’t want to to spend more than 2 hours in a truck sounding like that personally. It’s a long day as it is in a dump truck as you know too well Mike so having a decent sound system and the opportunity to hear it over the constant scream of an exhaust and or drone of an engine can certainly make it that bit easier 👍🏼 Never did get the American approach of wanting a wall of black smoke and noise coming from a truck or equipment when it can be avoided 🤷🏻♂️ Cool for about 10 minutes then unpractical from there on in 🤨 LT Dan can go places that haul truck can’t. That haul truck can go where LT Dan can’t go. All bases covered horses for courses 👍🏼
Q: What do you call an activity that costs far too much money and takes far too much time? A: A hobby. The idea of Lt. Dan being a show truck is fine if you are just a hobbyist, but keep in mind you are running a business. It's nice for your trucks to look shiny and cool, but if they are not making money for you, they are just an expense. I see truckers make this mistake all the time. They want a shiny new truck with a fancy paint job, big dual exhausts, long hood, chrome on everything and all the bells and whistles, but forget that a truck is first and foremost a tool for doing a job. A fancy truck does not get more for pulling a load than a plain truck.
That is fine if LT Dan is a hobby and costs more money than it makes, IF DP can afford it and thats what he wants. If he was worried about putting it to work to make money to pay for it, Then it would already be out working. I agree with you though about a bunch of guys wanting to look good more then actually having a truck that makes money...
Put a rain flapper on pipe and sender. SOT can make you a new grill same as did for Chris. A let's dig 18 sign on grill would definitely improve it. It does look like it is a better truck than the 1 Chris got.
Is it road legal in your state ? Lt. Dan will be a lot more fuel efficient on the road. The perfect mixed application truck to haul roadbase from the quarry, over the road, into the bush.
The last 30 seconds of the video says it all! Mrs. DP accepted the new truck... you're not banished to the shop on a cot and sleeping bag! Hahahaha..... All things considered, it looks like a good rig, Mike, and we know you have the ability to fix the gremlins.
I see a lot of great videos in our future! The truck is freaking awesome and the name is even better! Bubba Dumper was genius #mrsdirtperfect Great video Michael
Looks like a pretty good truck. About the exhaust, by the end of a shift or two the operator will beg for a muffler lol. Great video thanks for sharing!!
I don’t know why but watching you retool makes me feel like I’m retooling and expanding my fleet to, feels so right thanks for getting me excited this morning and good luck.
My vote is, get rid of that `straight` exhaust and put a muffler back on / in it. Running that throaty exhaust all day can and will get tiring pretty quick, in my opinion, of course. If this one ends up as good looking as Chris' then you'll have another great Volvo Hauler. One thing I do know for sure, Volvo makes great engines that will run and run for a loooong time.
Gee, I seem to remember someone who shall remain nameless stating he'd never need or buy a field truck. My ooh my how things change. Could it be the influence of someone named Chris ? Is Bubba Dump gonna get a Puuurty paint job like his. Will Captain Kleeman manage to knock off a mirror first ? These are questions inquiring minds want / have to ask. Stay tuned till 6 pm Mrs. Dirt Perfect nightly news Channel where we should see a "rest of the story" Paul Harvey segment 😀
Bubba Dumper, cool 😁😎 It will only be expensive if it is not used, for 24 years old it is in good condition Mike !! I was in no doubt Lt. Dan would not be replaced at all 👍😁
Shucks, Letsdig18 drove his uncle's haul truck down county roads, through the middle of a town and down more roads. Didn't appear to be any issues. Maybe NC permits it.
@@LatitudeSky He did and it was a fun video, but he said that what he was doing wasn't legal and it was supposed to be hauled like DP did with his haul truck. For some reason DOT never wants to let the equipment without steer axles be legal on the roads.
Not being legal doesn't mean they can't be on roads, here in this province in Canada there is additional rules like under a certain speed, slow moving vehicle signs and other things but it can still move loads on the road, you wouldn't want to since the pavement would grind off those tires in no time.
Congratulations to y’all for growing your business-I really enjoy witnessing prosperity in motion. Of, course, I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the fantastic people who join you in your efforts, who contribute to your channel and your business. Successful business owners are always surrounded by successful, skilled, and productive people. Well done, and I look forward to seeing what other blessing are in your future. Cheers! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻✌🏻
You got a good deal on that truck, those are very expensive, she runs great, if their maintenance is done regularly, they will run forever, I’m sure you will take good care of her, I’m sure Mike😎😎👍👍👍🍮🍮🍮☀️☀️☀️
I saw that on all the auction videos that were put up, I figured you might grab that. It had to be the straight pipe, it will never sound as good as your mack lol. Good find though
try using the alan block wall systems they look better than the big blocks more crisp with the lines , the big dogs are really not that nice looking for residential applications , except for commercial applications just a suggestion your work still is top notch as always
“Cookies” around the market parking lot…, still haven’t moved on from high school late night antics…, hahaha…! Loved it…, Looking forward to the video(s) of the this “fix-up” and pressed into service. Thank you sir. P.S., even if you get a larger excavator…, never get rid of the JD120…, hell ya..! “Bubba-Dumper” before any work is done on it get the name painted on it…
I like the intro of your 6 wheel go cart called Bubba-Dumper, going around the track! lol You get paid to play with heavy equipment, what a dream job!! Take care
I know, first thought is straight pipe, but if you are planning to use this on projects with residences and populated areas close by, I suggest keeping the annoyance factor in mind a straight pipe will cause to local residents. It is not just the noise, but also the rumbling vibrations a straight pipe will cause that can get windows and doors in nearby homes rattle and vibrate even over long distances. Imagine living next to a pond project and having to listen to a haul truck running back and forth with a straight pipe all day long.
Well buddy, Chris(Let's dig18) has Barney rubble hauler Betty the track loader stump ripper. So good on ya for getting the Mrs. to name yours for you. Looking forward to all the videos on all repairs and upgrades and all the loads that truck will move.
I commented on a ruined seat on one of your pieces of equipment. You didn’t like it. Well, I have an office chair with a ruined seat and got a roll of Naugahyde from Amazon for not very much that has double stick cement on the back so that you can scissor it out and stick it down. I see that your new truck here could use it, too. Not to be too smart, but I put two straight through glass pack resonators on my ‘88 Chevy truck and that made it sound pretty good and your Volvo might benefit from another straight through in it’s vertical stack.
Another great video that we have been waiting on..... Tractor flap needed, maybe a cat and a muffler if your going to run that any longer then a few hours ... Yes you going to use it 100h as a haul truck, but someone else will use it alot more with the camper attachment...:P And a bigger excavator Deere 870G LC its classed as a large ? But with the weight restrictions you have any bigger than a Deere 350 for the flower planting around the house going to get a bit harder... Last part already seen we have our sneak and peak channel where we get some more up to date videos guess what channel that is you where filming the owner of the channel :p
👍"Bubba Dump" fits. Maybe a Dirt Perfect signature exhaust and a SOT custom grill plus the small laundry list of clean up tasks will give you a lot of years of reliable service.
I'm on the same page as you bud... nice truck for as old as it is... I've commented before that you should get one... I build roads... run those off road trucks building them the whole 17 years I've been doing it and off road trucks are the only way to go when your short hauling on rough terrain... going from 10 wheel style trucks to this will be a game changer for you I promise... we run all different brands... they all have their pluses and negatives but the Volvos seem to last the longest durability wise... I'm happy to see your operation growing...
Excellent buy for your operation. A little TLC. I bet your subscribers could find you a used hood and grille in better shape. Glad Lt. Dan isn't going anywhere.
Yes you got a good deal on that but I would some paint on the hood and on the bar and a flapper on the extust ok this is Bob from Vero beach Fla. God bless all of you have a great day and stay safe
Great video, fitting name, Mrs.Dirt Perfect has a good sense of humour, you gotta good unit for its age even if the prices are crazy, I been in Volvos 41 yrs and those engines are built to last and have seen them with double the hours on them that yours has and never been apart, your front end body parts are easy to get, not that its a priority, a small investment in things you find will pay for themselves on the job site use and use no more fuel than any thing else in its class, the parts are usually easy to get, the straight pipe sounds good and the novelty will where off in time, it sure does sound cool though, Ya just can't take that away from it, you scored a sweet truck 👍
Hi DP, don't forget that the middle axle is the drive axle ( it's basicaly a 6*2) so i recommand to put the 80% used tires on it for more traction in mud. P.S Excuse my poor english, i'm french
@@andrewwhitnet3557 Yes, its a 6x6 but this "mode" must be engaged by a switch ( the green one, the yellow near the passenger seat) but it's a 6x2 when the "mode" is not engaged, i know that because i'm an equipement operator ( haul truck, excavator and wheel loader)
Friend is rebuilding a RV, the replacement master cylinder(its a Class A with air over hydraulic) was going to be 1200$, friend found one for 35$ from something still in production, same size/stroke/fill cap size/threading, just it was a 3 hole mount vs 2, some hand drill action later, he saved 1165$
Sounds like your business plan is to expand the type of work you have been doing. I can remember you talking with Chris that you didn't need or want a larger excavator. Now you are in the market. Truck looks in pretty good condition for the age. No doubt there will be some surprises, but shouldn't break the quality of the deal. My guess would put you near or just over $50k by the time you are done, all in. Good luck and thanks very much for sharing.
Much needed if you got the work line up for sure. You’ll get the bugs worked out of it soon, there is no doubting your mechanical abilities!! Can’t wait to Jenna gets to drive it👍🇺🇸
I think anything thats going to improve efficiency and productivity is a good buy. Its typical to need something for anything used at one point or another and even new stuff eventually needs things. These bigger companies buy and sell and have to keep up with new equipment vs continuing to fix the old. I think once you get the gremlins tweaked it will be a great addition to your fleet. Lt. Dan is at least road legal as far as being used on and off the job site, I couldn't see you getting rid of it especially as much love as you have for it and work and time put into it.
Will look forward to the fix ups ,but yes it's not to bad . Exhaust yes ,that pipe behind your head will annoy you ,might sound cool but it's a work truck . There's something about 90s gear . Make it yours for what you do .
Nice buy ! I love those trucks. Hope you don't find serious issues ! Put a muffler on it. as others said, after a full day, the straight pipe noise will be unbearable ! Oh, and some lipstick ? Chris's looks so nice...
I noticed you can leave the lights on with the ignition off so stock up on batteries ! 😄 Liking the straight pipe but you'd be growing tired of it , not to mention losing your hearing over time.
Good purchase!

katalysator = catalytic converter
straight pipe all the way 💯
Keep Forest Dump straight pipe. Sounds good that way. God bless
I’ll be extremely disappointed if you don’t put a traditional dirt perfect/logger wade diamond stack on it. But I would leave it straight piped.

Agree thanks
aside from the issues that you have said, it's a clean truck and it'll do the work you want it to do. Also, those old volvo trucks run strong!
The rust under the front of the tray on the member is stone damage because you are missing the front mud flap on that side.
No sir try again
A nice 220 would compliment that tasty haul truck . Volvo rocks .
We all know a straight pipe of that old diesel sounds sweet. But in the long run i feel it would get old real fast like a few hours. If you have buildings around its just going to bounce off them and echo and become even louder
Working brakes, new exhaust, new grill, and some green paint to match the 850J and it would look like a new truck!

Looks pretty decent 👌

Saw Bubba Dumper (Dump) on Mrs DP first, but wasn’t named yet. Love the open pipe sound of both the Mack and Bubba.

Suggestion put led bar where your spot lights are now also one on top of the bumper /fuel tank
I love the idea of Lt. Dan being a show truck ❤️
Mrs Dirt Perfect. “ you spent how much” bet the fireworks were a joy to behold. 💥
Congrats on the new haul truck. Sounds like your business is going well. You have a great group of friends/employees/family/costumers…
Love the name…
Even though everything has went thru the roof over the past year that doesn't seem to be keeping people from building around where I live in NC.
Thanks
Throw a coat of paint and new decals and she’ll look perfect! Sounds like it runs great.

Great find! A Bubba Dumper. Gotta love it. Can't wait to see it haul.
I don’t know why but watching you retool makes me feel like I’m retooling and expanding my fleet to, feels so right thanks for getting me excited this morning and good luck.
Should be a button on the floor for diff lock great trucks
My vote is, get rid of that `straight` exhaust and put a muffler back on / in it. Running that throaty exhaust all day can and will get tiring pretty quick, in my opinion, of course.
If this one ends up as good looking as Chris' then you'll have another great Volvo Hauler.
One thing I do know for sure, Volvo makes great engines that will run and run for a loooong time.
If it was a Florida truck... disconnected heating seems perfectly reasonable to reduce potential maintenance.
Bubba Dumper, cool 😁😎
It will only be expensive if it is not used, for 24 years old it is in good condition Mike !!
I was in no doubt Lt. Dan would not be replaced at all 👍😁
Lt. Dan has one thing that beats the a30c, Lt. Dan is road legal.
@@LatitudeSky you can drive LD18's A25 unloaded on the road. This A30 will exceed permissible axle weight on the front axle, unloaded.
Greetings from No VT - Awesome find. Should be a great addition to the DP fleet. Bubba Dumper is perfect, smart wife!
Congrats on the truck looks like a good one. My vote is for a new muffler and a new mounting bracket.
The haul truck after little bit of work and paint would look bran new and behind Lt Dan it would look like a match made in heaven
Ya gonna paint it? New decals? What would Chris do 😂🤣😂🤣
No
@@DirtPerfect LOL. I knew better. Just pulling your chain. Keep on digging !!! Enjoy your videos
I saw that on all the auction videos that were put up, I figured you might grab that. It had to be the straight pipe, it will never sound as good as your mack lol. Good find though
Can't wait to see it in action, I'm sure you already have a job planned for it! ✌🏼😊🇺🇸 You gonna name it The Gump truck?
try using the alan block wall systems they look better than the big blocks more crisp with the lines , the big dogs are really not that nice looking for residential applications , except for commercial applications just a suggestion your work still is top notch as always
“Cookies” around the market parking lot…, still haven’t moved on from high school late night antics…, hahaha…! Loved it…,
Looking forward to the video(s) of the this “fix-up” and pressed into service.
Thank you sir.
P.S., even if you get a larger excavator…, never get rid of the JD120…, hell ya..! “Bubba-Dumper” before any work is done on it get the name painted on it…
Only doing this to help your analytics - What about Lt. Dan? LOVE Bubba Dumper!
I like the intro of your 6 wheel go cart called Bubba-Dumper, going around the track! lol You get paid to play with heavy equipment, what a dream job!! Take care
lt dan a good winter project this winter it a good truck the big truck you bought is off road only
My vote is for the straight pipe. BUT…..you should put a stack on it like the one in the red dump truck.
the one different lugnut makes a cool effect with the different speeds and camera frames. 22:35
Hey Mike, S.O.T Metal Works can take care of the grill, the rest of it is only needing some TLC.
Glade you liked my idea
Great buy....I would recommend POR 15 for the rust
Well buddy, Chris(Let's dig18) has Barney rubble hauler Betty the track loader stump ripper. So good on ya for getting the
Mrs. to name yours for you. Looking forward to all the videos on all repairs and upgrades and all the loads that truck will move.
Chris did a fantastic job on his articulated.....
It needs the same exhaust stack as lt dan . Straight pipe is the only way .sweet music to my ears .
Not to be too smart, but I put two straight through glass pack resonators on my ‘88 Chevy truck and that made it sound pretty good and your Volvo might benefit from another straight through in it’s vertical stack.
bubba dump fits it! Well played Mrs. DIrt!
So a trailer to haul the gaul truck pulled by Lt. Dan! Then use both to haul materials!!!
O yeah and leave the straight pipe, sounds great.
Once you get bugs worked out send it up to Clint for wheel seals and paint job
Hi DP, don't forget that the middle axle is the drive axle ( it's basicaly a 6*2) so i recommand to put the 80% used tires on it for more traction in mud. P.S Excuse my poor english, i'm french
It's a 6x6.
You gotta keep it straight piped for sure. If you gotta fix it, make it like the exhaust on the mack but just one stack
18:30 Sounds like you should have built a bigger equipment shed!
I’m so glad to hear you’re keeping Lt. Dan, he’s going to be awesome too!
Will look forward to the fix ups ,but yes it's not to bad .
Exhaust yes ,that pipe behind your head will annoy you ,might sound cool but it's a work truck .
There's something about 90s gear .
Make it yours for what you do .
engine break in the mack sounded phenomenal
Thanks
But you still need to do preventative maintenance! Don’t need a heater in florida !!
Nice buy ! I love those trucks. Hope you don't find serious issues !
Put a muffler on it. as others said, after a full day, the straight pipe noise will be unbearable !
Oh, and some lipstick ? Chris's looks so nice...
Look's like u got a hell of a deal just needs some TLC and definitely will bring in bigger opportunity in the long run
Now that is what you call a Truck. Throw some Green Paint on it and it will Match the Mack and Lt Dan.
I noticed you can leave the lights on with the ignition off so stock up on batteries ! 😄
Liking the straight pipe but you'd be growing tired of it , not to mention losing your hearing over time.
