After taking the class and watching many videos looking at plans that you have put together really helps visualize the education points from the videos and the books. I get a mental image of what I think it should be but seeing a plan that you have built and knowing what you teach is really nice.

Also for long hunting plots how do you plant two things in them? It only 15 feet wide or so can you really fit two separate strips to help with food plot rotation?

Awesome idea to talk about past clients properties. I have a 63 acre parcel that parallels this property in a lit of ways. This year I was planning on putting in a food plot in one corner of the property in addition to the other plot at the opposite end of the property. This has changed my thinking completely. I now think I'll have long narrow strips to keep the deer travelling parallel to my borders. Thanks soooooo much Jeff 👍👍👊👊

Jeff, these videos are absolutely my favorite ones you do. I just love how you break properties down. This example is extremely similar to what I did to my place last year based on your videos and advice/practices. It is a square 50. Lots of work to do though! Plots, switch, bedding, stands, etc. This is just fantastic, incredible stuff! Thank you!
Also, my son shot his first buck on our place this year and I shot a nice mature 8 point on a cold Nov 3rd snowy morning!

Great video Jeff ! Just got access to 70 acres and started drawing out a plan for food plots and trails and this place has a house as well in the center. Plans look exactly like your set up except I don't have enough depth for bedding. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge on habitat improvements.
Great to hear Scotty! Those long skinny plots can really help you to establish depth, by teaching does to bed in a linear fashion. Hope it helps you out a lot!

I love this approach for a series. Also, I love this plan! I have an orchard/horse farm property about half this size. This just got my wheels turning! For the most part, a similar plan to this would work really well for me. I am so excited for this Michigan snow to be gone.

Thank you for these highly educational videos. They are very helpfull even over here in Europe. Roe deer are very close to whitetai deer habitat- and behaviourvise.
I manage them on a comparatively small hunting lease of under 500 acres, so these small parcel hunting tips are great.

Jeff in future vids can you give the bearing and prominent wind direction. It help to understand with access and controlling scent
Sure thing! The parcels will never be featured unless North is up. Also, the predominant wind direction (35%) is always sse to ssw in the majority of the North 2/3rds of the country. Also the predominant wind plays no roll in a parcel design...all winds need to be accounted for. Hope that helps! You want to have a fairly equal number of stands for all winds, if possible.

What would you recommend doing with a big patch of 3-6 in aspens with some old growth oak Mixed in? Looking forward to this new series.
Jeff how often do you recommend corn plots and at what percentages would they be to other sources like brassica, peas, rye and clover?
Hey Jeff, when you have small properties is it really always feasible for morning and evening stands? Without a major food source nearby it seems tough for morning stand is all.
Very helpful video. When making hinge cut bedding areas do deer relate and bed more often on the tops end of the tree or the trunk end? I know depending on the lay of the land will impact it but say its a flat area?

If there is a long linear obstacle like a big or pond down the middle, is it best to have food or bedding up against it?
Awesome idea, Jeff's the best out there in my opinion in setting up parcels. How do i keep deer from using my access trails to my stands, every time I rake out a trail then all the deer use it..
I would just stop raking the leaves and cut wood saucer’s to walk on, or place rocks! Pile brush to block your path
Hi MD! Hunter access trails should be wide and straight, and I never rake them...just clear sticks. Main access trails should be as wide as a truck if possible. The great thing about hunter access trails is that they do not connect habitat features of mock scrapes, waterholes, food plots, staging areas and bedding areas. The more you define deer movement, create great deer travel corridors and build true people trails...there will be a much clearer separation of attraction for deer. I hope that helps!
Love this video concept-! Wondering how this client achieves depth enough for bucks with the food stretching across the whole parcel. Seems like does from front to back.

I don't see the depth of cover, that you speak of, in that layout? Are those spacial areas large enough from food to property edge to allow adequate doe and buck bedding?
Like I said in the video, due to the linear food plots, doe bedding takes place in a linear fashion against the food...leaving significant depth of cover to the west and west center of the land. That also allows for the food to adequately support the entire parcel.
My place looks similar, but it's more or less cut in half by the house with just 30 yds of woods between the building site and the back of the property, we're pretty much a horseshoe shaped woods island with a couple of line fences connecting it to other places and a 10 acre field in the middle. It's goofy, but very private.

I have searched your videos and watched a bunch but haven’t quite found the answer. I don’t want to be one of the stooges that asks a question that is already answered, so I might not have the right term and if I don’t, I apologize beforehand.
I want to do some habitat improvements on a parcel that is cut in half by a draw that usually has water in the creekbed. Are there any special considerations for creating bedding and food plots on slopes and taking account of the natural water on the property?

How do you design a 40 acre parcel with a road splitting it up. 20 on each side. Logged property with tree thicket on one side and open hardwoods on the other
Really depends...so many options depending on resources, neighbors, type of road, location and variety of habitat...unfortunately could never answer that question appropriately online.
Hi Jeff. I love linear food plots. I have a narrow piece and want to do a food plot trail. I don’t want to do clover. Trail is probably a little bit bigger than a quarter acre. What can I plant?
Hi Mike, that depends on so many factors that I wish we had time to discuss on here! Amount of sunlight, deer density, neighboring food sources, soil, equipment, time, money...quite a few things to explore.
Hopefully if I can get Dylan up here we can come up with a plan. Only gave 25 acres but a lot of diversity. Hardwoods,swamp,foodplots, a bunch of red osier dogwood. I cant wait to figure it out

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 thanks Jeff, they are fortunate to have roads to utilize but that’s not always the case. I struggle getting off my cabin deck without spooking deer in the morning so I’ve found its best to not hunt the morning which pains me but you can’t educate mature bucks! Trying John K screening mix can’t remember what it’s called and built a berm to hide the cabin and I have found I have to wait until grey light or later to get to my morning stands. Appreciate your help that you offer all of us more than you know!

Hi Oli that land had bad access to begin with, but defining deer travel at a higher level leads to great deer hunting access. But the deer movement has to be defined first...

Hi David! I liked my CE Reds, but availability at the local pro shops and the quality of the Victory arrows forced the change. BTW, I am not sponsored by Victory and they are like a lot of products I use...find the best first and if they want to form a partnership great and if not I will use them anyways. I believe Victory is a GREAT arrow company. Hope that helps!

Man... I really wish I could get my father in law on board with some of your ideas... My in-laws bought 65 acres in WV this past spring...
He was so excited because we got Hundreds of Buck pictures over the summer, but then they all disappeared in October.... Needless to say hunting was abysmal this past fall. He got one doe with a rifle and hit and lost one buck with his bow that happened to chase a doe past him. I got a spike with a rifle because I needed the meat. We saw 6 bucks including those 2 all season down there when we literally got dozens on camera.
I'm thinking that it's a combination of 2 things, 1, it's just a summer property that needs alot of work. 2, they insist on using four-wheelers to drive to their stands and his brother is super loud in the woods so the deer just moved elsewhere.
Unfortunately it's his land so I can't do anything that's not his way but that's how it goes I guess.
Sounds like your in-laws are hunters too. I’m guessing they/he would love Jeff’s ideas and videos and benefit greatly from them. It’s worth the try exposing him to them-

Most of your videos/plans seem to be based on the fact that the deer will be traveling quite a ways after dark to get to an Ag field. What do you do when there aren't any Ag fields within 10 miles of your land? In no Ag locations what are they eating for the 4th and 5th feedings?
Ag fields, neighbor's food plots, neighboring bait piles, open hardwoods, open fields, golf courses, subdivisions, etc...so many night time food source options
Now all it's missing Is a few atv trails through the middle of it...

You said deer trail. How do you get deer to not use your access routes?
Great question! Impossible to stop all deer traffic, BUT there is big difference between deer trails and hunter trails. Hunyer trails should be long, straight and as wide as possoble...up to pickup truck width. They don't connect to deer bedding, food sources, mock scrapes, waterholes or cruising cover. So by position and size...completely different. The more defined deer travel is created and enhanced, the less deer will have reason to use hunter access trails...especially when the hunter access trails are wider, straighter and unconnected to deer features. My acreage in Texas is 67 acres so this should be interesting and fun, but I do not believe that far north you have to deal with feral hogs. they would destroy your food plots
No technical questions allowed?
Unfortunately because I do this for a living, 70-80 hours pet week, 7 days per week...you may have noticed I didn't answer questions all afternoon yesterday while I spent time with my wife for a valentines day extended weekend.
I focus on questions too, where it is obvious the person asking the question has searched for the same answer in other comments or within the video itself, first. I tend to ignore questions that have been already asked so that I can focus on new questions that help the most folks within the time I have dedicated to actually answer questions. Last TH-cam tells me I answered 27,000 comments eothin the 208 videos published in 2020 and I focus on the commemts that help the most folks and are the most concise. This of course after visiting roughly 100 clients in person, finishing a web class, another book...and working on my own land and hunting.
I would say very easily, there is no other channel that even comes close to answering as many technical questions...
Why is it that pine and hemlock are not worth anything.But a 2×4 is 9$.Just dont get it..
