One of the dumbest arguments Hassan always brings up on stream is "If you're not directly affected by it, why do you care?" Just because you're not directly affected by something doesn't mean your opinion is invalid. Just because you weren't directly affected by World War II or the Holocaust doesn't mean you aren't allowed to have an opinion about it. Just because you don't use Dove doesn't mean your opinion of it should be shut down, or else Noah shouldn't be talking about it either.

The fact is that they think Lara Croft's body is sexualized because they understand that she's attractive and they have sexual feelings upon viewing. The fat chick isn't "sexualized" because they understand that she's unattractive and they don't have to deal with their own feelings. That's why the asymmetry exists, which should make everyone extremely aware of the reality of the situation.

as a former leftish person, i would describe the attitude people like Noah have as "I am defending those I see as under attack, so my objectives are right, so the quality of my actions matters less." It is basic moral laziness that is designed to appeal only to those predisposed to agree with him, and which also allows someone like TBYS to basically jump off their foreheads and slam dunk by providing much higher-quality arguments

"Does he thinks a character has to be but naked and doing the splits in order to be sexualized?"
Ok, are you suggesting that Lara which in the picture is using an outfit that a lot of women I have seen wear in public is sexualized? So are real women sexualizing themselves? Can we call them out? Or why is it that some can get shamed while others don't? • @Mupyeong
      @Mupyeong ปีที่แล้ว +17

Most modern papers require you to read the abstract, the conclusion and part of the method at most because papers are often word inflated. The methodology or definitions only become relevant when actually evaluating specific points.
It's shoddy, yes, but after reading about a hundred papers that were just hot air it's how I end up doing it a lot of the time.
So far I have not missed anything of importance. Even papers on animal feed are often as easy to take apart (had one that compared a complex protein to an isolated protein once, it was a joke). All it took was Introduction, Conclusion and half of the Methodology section to figure out that it was not viable.

They are helpful for understanding the researcher’s bias when looking at the abstract and conclusion in detail. "fatness is out of people's control" is such a big lie. As long as your caloric intake is equal to or lower than your caloric output, you would be maintaining/ loosing weight. While certain health conditions lower your metabolic rate, making it harder to eat at a caloric deficit, it is not impossible, hence saying that it is out of their control is a lie. They are just not willing to put in the effort to change their diet to fit their body's needs and requirements.

You make it sound so simple but it's not. Your metabolic rate isn't fixed, in fact the more you try to lose weight, the more your body will fight you. It will go in panic mode and lower your metabolic rate and the moment you stop dieting or reintroduce some carbs into your diet or screw up one day, etc. your body will store that shit in fat cells like your life depended on it (which it used back in hunter-gatherer times).
Then of course you have to exercise to increase your metabolic rate. Constantly, otherwise it doesn't really work. Also sleep 7-8 hours a day in a relatively decent schedule. Or you won't burn fat.
But this is just skimming the surface. What do you eat? Clearly stuff with sugar (deserts, soft drinks) are off the table. Ok fine, but what about ordering normal portions like you would in a restaurant? Nope, turns out that's too much carbs. Gotta cut down on those, right? Might help if you fast intermittently as well. But now you're hungry. Should you just push through or eat something? You can push through a bit but then you get even hungrier and eventually might end up consuming even more calories than you would have eating normally. (BTW, have you ever felt so hungry you considered biting into someone's face? I have)
Then there are adjacent problems like time and lack of variation of food. I could learn to cook for myself but that would consume huge amounts of time and I'm already supposed to sleep more than I feel I need to and exercise which I don't want to. Otherwise, the choices I have are quite limited. How many days in a row can you go eating grilled chicken breast or legs?
Oh and if you think you can diet hard for a few months and then stop, you're deluded. That works if you just want to take off 20 pounds and exercise your ass off afterwards. Otherwise, you will yo-yo back up at 10 times the speed you lost weight.

    • @d0ubtingThom4s
      @d0ubtingThom4s ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@fyngolnoldor4891 you're 100% right about yoyo dieting, though I do think pure fasting can be decent if you could get a decent source of protein that you can tolerate, be it some powder with milk or tinned mackerel or what have you, that will prevent you from losing muscle. Your basal metabolic rate can only get so low, and as long as you have enough fat it won't go lower. The main issue is that you need a long term sustainable diet - you're not going to fast for the rest of your life.
Hit the nail on the head but IMO you need to prioritize improving your skills at building a sustainable diet over exercise. You have to exercise an unsustainable amount in order to compensate for a bad diet. If you can get a balanced diet, just moving around at a heavy bodyweight will be enough to keep some metabolism and muscle. Meal prep things like other kinds of meat, large servings of dried beans you can have without other carbs and add gelatin for more protein, fruit with yogurt can easy with healthy macros. It's hard work but how else can you get healthy food?

Not to mention he talked about it and posed this "argument" in direct opposition to the concept that "fat representation keeps people fat".
Those 2 things does make him say that "fat acceptance makes people loose weight" once the context of what he is saying and why he is saying it is taken into account.

Regarding representation, there was a (woke) article from DiGRA 2011 which was entitled "He could be a bunny rabbit for all I care”: Exploring identification in digital games". It was a study into how having characters that looked the player correlated with identification of the player with said character.
Turns out, representation had very little to do with how players percived how well they identified with the character or why they would choose a character.

It is so true that curvy women get labelled as promiscuous for wearing the same thing as flat chested women.
My entire life, I've had large breasts, even when I was a kid! I don't understand it, I needed a bra in like third grade.
I was very insecure about it for a time, actually. I didn't want to grow up, and i was a tomboy.
In middle school, we had a new dress code which required our shirts not go below one inch from our collar bone.
I would get picked on SO much more than everyone else, who were often wearing camisoles to school.
I got in trouble for wearing a T-shirt..
I also had another kid ask me if I was a slut, and when I responded with offense and asked why on earth would he think that? He said it's because I "had big boobs and wore makeup".
My entire class wore makeup by that age, and mine was not excessive.
    Ugh, very annoying.
At least he was honest I guess lol.
My wardrobe was mostly tshirts and skinny jeans at that time, so I was not expecting to hear that from someone.
It is a struggle to find the right clothing when you're not fat, but still very curvy.
I have to cut all of my bra's straps so I can take 3 or so inches off of them and resew them, or else they'd be down to my lower ribcage.
They don't typically make clothing with the assumption that a woman will have a large bra cup size, but also have breasts that sit above their bellybutton.
They don't assume that we will have flat stomachs but a big caboose.
It's hard to find clothes that not only have the right measurements, but don't look like they're showing too much skin.
Because I can wear the same tank top as another girl, but it'll look ten times as revealing.
I kind of cringe at some of the things I used to wear before I accepted that I just have to deal with it and not wear the same revealing clothing that the flat chested girls can get away with lol.
I didn't fully realize how much different it looks on me, and I wanted to wear the cute crop tops and everything.
But hey, it's not all bad. Many people would call it a blessing, so I'm fine with it!

at for the age your are now I don’t think it’s that hard of concept to understand why girls with more developed bodies are perceived as promiscuous.
It’s should be obvious they attract more attention and have more opportunities to act on sexual advances. So just by numbers or logic it would be more likely a more developed girl is more promiscuous than a less attractive flat chested underdeveloped girl.

It’s tough and unfair, but at the end of the day, people are going to tell you as it is, and you have to care a little bit about how you present yourself to society. I had this same conversation with my sister, who is overweight and got annoyed how thin girls get away with more clothing styles without being criticized. The thing is, the more girth that you have in certain areas, the more emphasized they will be with certain clothing. It’s like a man with a round beer-belly wearing a tight T-shirt, all the attention goes to his gut, whether he likes that or not. People shouldn’t stare, ofc, but he can’t control other people’s thoughts, either. All he can do is control what he wears, or maybe get on a diet plan. Or he has to except that some people are going to look at him a certain way. That’s how life is.

The reason cynthia isn't sexual when she wears lara's clothes is that she's unattractive. The people in these body positivity movements are just like everyone else in their interpretations of "sexiness". Cynthia is fat and unattractive because of it. She wears the "sexy clothes" yet she's not "sexy", even the body pos people can see that. That's why there appears to be a double standard when it's actually just confusion and/or dishonesty.

Noah is the type of guy who tries way too hard to color outside of the lines to come off as ~unique & different~ then acts surprised and confused when people tell him what he’s drawing looks incredibly ugly and fcked up. That hairstyle and mustache is the same concept … he’s trying way too hard to follow a hipster style that several other TH-camrs are trying to emulate (Kurtis, for example), but forgets that you need a certain style and appearance to pull it off well unless you want to look like …. a predator - that strange “uncle” in the 80s caricature to a T. The latter being all people sees when they look at him and nothing else.
No matter how much people want to push “wear whatever you want, style yourself however you wish”, they often forget that people are also free to judge you over those choices and give their opinion. That’s never going to change lol. It’s just not other peoples’ fault their minds go straight for “yikes, predator” when seeing him because that’s all he can pull off with that style.

Also, most studies are... Studies. A lot of them are inconclusive, have really low r-values (correlation coefficient) and/or really low C.I.s (confidence intervals).
Vegans like to use the "red meat and cancer correlation" study, without understanding the myriad of factors that can impact the study, such as other lifestyle decisions, nitrate/nitrite intake, smoked food intake, smoker, drinker, high-stress, low sleep, etc.
Where the study suggests there's a correlation between high red meat intake and tendency to not care about health, they morph that into "red meat causes cancer".
It's turned from "some X eaters have Y trait that increases chance of getting Z" into "X causes Z".
It's easier to sell lies when the lies are easier to explain than the truth.

I believe the reason that happens is because people are afraid to admit they’re wrong. So once they form an opinion they’ll argue their point even if proof is presented.
Neither side is perfect and unfortunately it’s at a point nobody wants to find common group they just want to argue and bicker about their differences instead of making peace. This is the best result for the government because we are way easier to control when we are all arguing over chaos they manufacture.

As a formerly obese person I can confirm. I ate a lot of food to maintain my weight. About 3000 calories a day or more.
You see I have a problem where I feel uncomfortable if I don't eat all of the food on my plate.
So I eat all of the food on my plate even if I feel full.
Just cutting back to 2500 calories a day(which is still more then most people) was enough to drop me from obese to overweight. I still have more work to do to get to normal weight, and I hope to-do so by the end of the year, but it isn't easy. When I eat less then 2300 calories I day I start to feel constantly hungry. I think my body needs time to accept what a normal amount of food looks like.
