When the good writing and depth is saved for the side characters rather than the main cast, you know it's a good game. Looking forward to whoever is next.
TBH that's pretty much every single FE game with the exception of 3H (or maybe FE4 if you also count Arvis as the main cast, but FE4 has a ton of good characters)
Really helps having brother and sister on two sides of the same coin, and Pandreo's character makes a whole lot of sense when we get the context from Panette's side of the story, because he straight up said he didn't even have the guts to leave. Engage has moments like this that just...elevate it.
This is one of the reasons I love Engage: the characters. It's true, the story is a mess, but I found a lot to love in the majority of the characters in the game thanks to the support conversations, which is where they truly shine IMO. The problem is, of course... their best is locked behind the supports, so people who just play the story will never know and will miss out. I can't really blame them for that to be honest, after all the first time I played the game building up the supports was a pain since the activities weren't available at day one (they were given in the next update), so I couldn't enjoy the characters much in my first playthrought, and I could only do in "post-game" phase (doing some tower of trial things) and in my second playthrought. I'm honestly baffled that they didn't put much care in the writing of the main story as much as they did in several of the supports of the game...
I really enjoyed Panette in Engage. She never seemed too one-dimensional and is quite conflicted in how she is vs how she wants to envision herself. Her violent behavior flaring up even in a simple cooking lesson from Goldmary (and the whole interaction was quite gold[mary]). She was also my MVP in my first playthrough and recruiting her is like a big milestone of the game for me like getting Severa in Awakening. Absolutely enjoyable as a wolf knight with her innate skill with daggers or as a magical cannoneer with the DLC. FEH also made her a grail unit in that game so I got to enjoy her thoroughly there too. Overall, a very satisfactory character in story, personality, and gameplay.
@@TurbulentEitri she has like no character or development at all. She just talks in a very weird way and that's it. She is a great unit, but just an one dimensional character.
@@mihaimercenarul7467 Even this video alone pointed out that there's more to her than the way she speaks with the family conflict and desire to change herself to serve Timerra. Not to mention her hobbies being quite varied. Her supports do well to help show the different sides to her character.
@TurbulentEitri honestly he didn't do a very good job. He tried too hard to make her sound complex but he didn't add any good examples. One support is not enough if 99% of her character is the same. Sure, if a character had many supports, one of them can have a different subject and tone, doesn't make them complex tho. Diamant for example is a boring generic lord that talks about justice, training and freedom 99% of the time. He has a support where he grieves his father and his kingdom. Does that make him complex or good written? No. But people can try hard to make it sound like he is based on one different support. Chloe talks about food. Just becsuse she has one where she talks about something else, doesn't mean she is complex or has variety. Panette is may be better than some of the bottom, but she still has no variety to her character.
This was a nice, streamlined refresher of things I read in support conversations over a year ago. Love you, Panette. (Though I _didn't_ know about the paint origins; neat). There are so many choices for other characters... An obvious choice is doing her brother next, because they go together, and he has his own nuances, with how he thinks of religion (him convincing Mauvier it's fine if they pray to different gods together because they're both praying for the same things comes to mind). Covering someone that most people have a bad impression of (Timerra, Framme, or Amber?) could be interesting, if there's anything deeper there. I did like Timerra's personality (meat song and all; _embrace the cringe),_ though Framme rubbed me the wrong way, but maybe there's a deeper support I missed. Despite my bias, when someone (maybe you?) said that if she joined later, she might be liked more, I did start to think of her in a different light. The Avatar praise would still be annoying, but perhaps people would see past that more if she wasn't part of the game's introduction. And Amber... I admit, I dropped him immediately due to "Horsey," but after hearing he was a good unit, I'm finally trying him out on my current playthrough, and I am now an Amber Fan. Perhaps there's more to him than that horrible first impression. I haven't read his supports, but the "I want to be a hero" thing has _potential,_ at least... Otherwise, perhaps Goldmary. I've heard good things about her character, but haven't used her, so I don't know much about the nuances of her character. I'd be interested in Lindon too. Yunaka's gimmick is pretty well-known, but I'm sure a lot would love to see her covered. -Do it for the views.- Ivy has potential, given she's popular too, and at the very least, has the stuff about her worshiping the Divine Dragon in Fell Dragon territory, initially to rebel, but eventually serious. I found the supports _I_ saw with Mauvier overall pretty boring, but there might be something there, with him originally being from Firene. Anyway, sorry for rambling, but IDEAS. And thank you again, for the _Engage_ content. I know it's not your favorite game in the series-nor is it mine-but it really is nice to finally see it getting more love.
I like most of the Engage characters. Panette was one I eventually warmed up to. I thought her design was odd and I didn’t use her that much. Til one day, I used her, and holy shit shes fun. I started watching more of her supports and started loving her character more. More characters please! Pandero, my husband next!
@emmastokes64 it doesn't. The lands literally have no lore or infrastructure. Even the emblem rings are not explained. There is no concrete lore. But go on, tell me the lore.
The Pan siblings are some of my favorite characters in Engage. They’re getting the recognition they deserve!

Would love to see one for Zelkov, he's quite underrated
He is QUITE, underrated indeed
I never paired Marth with Panette, so I just assumed she had gang tattoos on her face. Like getting a teardrop for every kill.

More proof that Timerra is the definition of perfect
I'll have two Panetones for Xmas evening thank you
WE LOVE ENGAGE LORE
There is no lore tho

@@mihaimercenarul7467 Firene and Brodia literally have industry lol
@emmastokes64 and that is? Brodia is at war with elusia cuz reasons. I guess cuz elusia is now controlled by the generic main villain. Solm is solm.
Panette!
Lets gooo
Side characters are better written but engage had no competition for that.
Panette as a character? She’s alrite, good for an engage character but nothing to write home about
Panette as a unit? *happy noises*
She's so bad (hot)

All other units are peons when compared to the chef, you must do the Bunet video.
