- I sleep on a 3-inch thick cotton futon mattress, and I love it.
If you're interested in where I got my shikifuton, check out this website www.thefutonshop.com/futon-ma.... Not sponsored at all, I just genuinely love the mattress.

Hi, I’m Paige! I’m a cat mom who practices yoga and meditation and loves matcha. I’m vegan and passionate about health and wellness. I’m also an aspiring minimalist. Welcome to my channel! “beingpaige” was born from a place of choosing to live in the present, rather than constantly striving for more, more, more… where doing was my natural baseline despite feeling like something was missing in my life. In my videos, you’ll see how I live a more intentional, soul-inspired life. You will discover my minimalist home, inspiration for slow living, how-to’s on intentional living, decluttering and organizing, health and wellness topics, an eco-friendly lifestyle, conscious consumerism, plant-based eating, and conscious cat care.
Being (noun)
- The state or quality of having existence: synonym: existence.
- The totality of all things that exist.
- A person.
“Being is your birthright, a natural state of what it truly means to be alive. There's no trying or doing, only allowing you to thrive as the unique soul expression that YOU are.”

I love sleeping on the floor using the Japanese Futon!! It actually helps my back and I had issues with my SI joint that have mostly been resolved from a work injury.
That's awesome!!! I'm so happy it worked for you too!
I sleep on a tatami mat and futon too and I’m never going back to a bed. This is so much more comfy. I’ve been sleeping on mine for 2 years now.
I feel ya! I think my body would reject sleeping in a bed haha😆
I am 76 and have no problem getting off the floor. I think it's because of Yoga and hiking. However, I have rotator cuff issues in both shoulders. I can no longer sleep on the floor. I'm happy I can still do nearly everything I used to.
That's amazing to hear! I completely agree- yoga and hiking are a great combo of exercises for core-strengthening and muscle building and toning. By utilizing our bodies in those ways we naturally lubricate our joints to keep everything working as it should, but some times injuries impact that ability. Kudos to you for still being able to do a lot at 76!
I'm minimalist, but need my bed. I'm glad it's worked out for you though. 😊 Gorgeous Cleo!! 💖🐱💖🐱💖🐱
@@trekkie-cat - you can totally still be considered a minimalist even if you own a bed 🛌 Cleo likes sleeping on beds too haha 😹
@being_paige I am curious about it though on further thought. The cats allow us to borrow their bed! 🤣🐱
@@trekkie-cat - I will say it takes an adjustment for the body to get used to sleeping on the floor if you’ve slept on a soft bed your whole life
Sleeping on the floor, straight on the carpet healed my 10 year journey with extreme insomnia and anxiety. It changes everything in my brain when I go from bed to floor. Something primal takes over and nothing seems as bad
Yes! I agree with you too! It feels very natural
Thank you for the quick diatribe against fitting in to labels. And also the book reccomendation.
You’re very welcome! ☺️
I got the 5 inch one but I think I could’ve done 3. Would’ve been easier to get it out in the sun. I also don’t know that I needed the organic cotton cover because it’s not exactly easy to put a queen size mattress into a pillowcase basically. I also got the coconut tatami mats so when I push it to the side in the morning I just do my stretching and yoga right on the mats. 🌱💚✌🏼ふとんしばらしい
I wonder what the difference is between the 5 inch and the 3 inch. I will say though- our futon is quite heavy so it can be a pain trying to take it outside! We haven't gotten the coconut coir pads yet. Yay for yoga!
thank you for your ideas on this subject...of light living....deatra
Should I do a video on how I make my matcha? 💚
❤
Have you tried your local library? It has been a game changer for me keeping a low book inventory
ohh that's a great suggestion! I'll look into it- thanks!
Cute cat
Thanks 😻
Would not work for an older person. Lol. I would be crawling around trying to get up 😮
Maybe! 😆
Two things.
1) can you still fall flat on your bed after a long day?
2) what about spiders? Not an issue?
Totally! It's the best feeling to fall into my bed after a long day. Sometimes there will be a spider that makes its way onto the bed but the same has happened before when I've slept on high mattresses.
Sleeping on the floor is common in asian countries , dont make one a minimalist
So true - I think the concept of being a minimalist changes depending on what country you live in
I like to sleep ona Matt. That is foldable my son sleeps on mattress that lays on the floor
Nice! That would be our next step once we decide to forgo the mattress - sleeping on a mat
oh yeh? well the floor sleeps on me sometimes.
What does being an extreme minimalist mean to you?
Getting rid of as much as possible if it will bring peace of mind!
Been one for over 30 years. For me, I call it curated, to fit the current climate of my life. The "things" change but the idea does not. Right now, I have more books, because I am doing research (Back into my Masters) and I have a lot of interests. I also have more "outdoor" clothes because I am trying new things outdoors- long hikes and canoeing right now. I love the futon! I don't follow rules set by social media on "minimalism". Do you!
I love this idea of "curated" and YES! I appreciate minimalists who break the "rules" of minimalists on social media because it isn't always an aesthetic and what people share online isn't always true in their everyday lives. I just discovered the term spiritual minimalism and it has to do with eliminating more internally, rather than externally- which really resonated with me. Thanks for sharing!

But the floor dust you breathe in... and the cold sinking to the floor... and the storage space lost under the bed... and the condensation if you forget to air it... Beds are practical inventions, hardly luxuries
It makes your whole room
Way easier to clean. My bed just used to gather dust under it…
