Thought I would mention Reincarnated samples the piano from 2Pac’s Made “Fellas”. So it isn’t just Kendrick’s flow that was inspired by Pac on that track
Not just the piano, it's the drums and bass too, it's wild to me how many people I'vr heard talk about how "the vibe" feels like Tupac without recognizing the beat
This feels more like a mixtape than a normal, conceptual Kendrick album. It's like comparing Melt My Eyez, See Your Future to King of the Mischievous South (The new one) by Denzel Curry. I think after Mr. Morale and the entire beef with Drake, he just wanted to make a shorter, more fun project and I love it
I think that’s a perfect comparison sometimes artists don’t want to make something that deep and it’s cool. It still sounds good even if it’s not what I typically love about him. Both have their place
@@TheMurderousStan Bc this probably wasn’t even the original album 😭 Deyra Barrera, the hispanic singer on three of the songs, said she met Kendrick during and after the World Series this year, which was almost 2 months ago. And she said she didn’t know any of the lyrics, she was just given a “vibe” to go for by K. Dot and she basically made her stuff on the spot 😭
Honestly i find it kinda refreshing to get a Kendrick album thats not trying to be super conceptual, If anything i actually prefer this direction of sound compared to the liked of Mr. Morale, At least in terms of replayability. For the vibe he's going for here, I think he absolutely killed it, It's like Damn but less story, More bangers. I think i actually prefer this to Damn tbh. For overall quality, It's easily the most I've enjoyed a Kendrick album since TPAB. I can play it front to back and not get the urge to skip any tracks. Even cuts like Peekaboo or GNX which I wasn't feeling AS much are still enjoyable to me. This is easily a top three album of the year for me, I think I Lay Down My Life For You is still my AOTY atm, But this is def two or three next to Dark Times for me, Great listen, I'd score it like a 8.9/10.
Ngl this feels like Kendrick’s Kamikaze, but if he did it correctly. Go at em hard on the first song, and just make good music for the rest of em. Heart Pt. 6 feels like his version of Stepping Stones
Yeah was def getting a few eminem vibes mainly on reincarnated when he does the talking to himself bit. Makes sense tho a lot of his songs have em influence
@ not even. A lot of rappers have done the “talking to themself on a song” thing. The main thing that reminds me of Kamikaze is him going super strong and bold on the intro track and The Heart Pt. 6 being this album’s version of Stepping Stones
@@tgeiii3554 Also it being a sudden drop that's 40something minutes from an artist who previously did huge albums in terms of rollout, length and usually concept
I was on my way to Walmart and checked my phone to see what kind of music to listen to and immediately saw GNX and played that in the car. BEST FIRST LISTEN YET
i just started a new management position at my job rn and i wasn’t able to look at my phone all day. Then I get off and see a whole new kendrick album. that was a good drive home.
I'm really glad Kendrick did this. I want him to just make an album. Have fun, do some music. And he did that. I love it. I don't want another tpab, cuz we already have that. And this album is still great. It is kind of like Kendrick's Zuu by Denzel Curry.
Oddly enough I haven’t gotten this kinda vibe from any of his other albums besides Section 80 and by that I mean this feels like everyday Kendrick, going about his life. GKMC through Mr Morale all have overarching themes, and so do S80 and GMX, but those two feel less like the theme is central and more like you’re finding it out by walking in another man’s shoes. Some songs have a grander idea behind them, others sound like he had a rhythm in his head one morning while brushing his teeth and decided to do something with it (in a good way) I just really like it
I haven't heard anyone mention it yet but the KRS-1 reference on Reincarnated is my favorite bar of the whole album, not gonna mention what the line is but comment below if you spotted it.
Kendrick just opened his mouth CDTVProductions gonna listen to it right now Then he put on his headphones now he discussing his thoughts all over his home I'm bout to comment on it tonight Unlike Drake I'm glad IAmJayce is still alive One love ✌️
I really like this album and think it's a lot of fun. While I favor his "headier" stuff, he definitely is very enjoyable on here. My only regret with this album is that my neighbors love it too and, because of their sound system pointed directly towards my backyard, I have heard "MUSTARD!" at least six times a day since Friday. I'm not blaming Kendrick for my neighbors misusing their influence, but it's hard not to be annoyed after hearing the poppier elements of this album at all hours of the day.
Kendrick is rapping from the perspectives of jimi hendrix, Tupac, chuck berry, Whitney Houston, and potentially Billie holiday, himself and his own father, and god and the devil The layers on reincarnated are actually ridiculous
Finally, just an album from him. No pressure, he's just fcking around and giving love to his local scene. Mr Morale savior complex rejection really took that conceptual weight off his shoulders. I kinda expected this ratchet west coast thing coming since not like us became such a phenomenon. Loved all the features too. Just some nasty wc desperados riding it out, lovely.
1. Dodger blue - silky smooth Zap and Roger vibes (u won’t understand if u don’t got soul) 2. Reincarnated - fye story telling and classic 2pac sample, cadence and flow for the real pac fans 3. TV Off - dumb hard ratchet westcoast banger. This album is for the westcoast fans and shits on MMATBS.
I really wish Dodger Blue had Kid Cudi as a feature, I think the vocals on the hook would have been super satisfying and my mind tries to imagine that it is him. I understand Kendrick is featuring West Coast artists and that’s why it couldn’t be Cudi.
After a few listens, I agree with you that the melodic songs on this album works better than the melodic songs on DAMN., imo songs like LOYALTY. and LOVE. got tired pretty quickly for me.
Every song is good but I don’t love most of them. There are some parts in the songs where I’m like “Damn this is good.” I do kinda appreciate that it’s going for a different vibe than some of his older stuff. Still trying to figure out my favorites.

Kendrick casually showing off how to make an album that appeals to multiple audiences without making it insanely bloated
Absolutely. It a lean 44min and it’s all good.
Kendrick also doesn’t have half the audience to feed either of the multiple genres. Purely for the fans
This might be the best year for hip-hop since the 90s
