  • David Wiggins and Simon Lizotte have thrown a disc farther than any other human in history.
    David, who is the first person to throw over 1,100 feet, holds the current world record at 1108 feet (338 metres) and Simon, who was the first person to throw 900 feet, has a personal best of 1030 feet (317 metres).
    In this video, they talk about having extreme wind during the High Desert Distance Challenge, throwing it farther than anyone else and how they feel about big wind vs less windy conditions.

    Spot on guys. In track and field there are wind limits, and if a record was wind aided it has an asterisk next to it. I think it should be the same for throwing a disc as well.

      Should but the rules are what they are, they have figured that 18-20 mph or 29-30 kmph is the max that winds should be as the winds beyond that are just going to push the disc into the ground.

    Reminds me of a story I read about George Washington, who beat his friends at a game similar to horseshoes;
    "there were several visitors at Mount Vernon in 1773, competing to see how far they could throw an iron bar across the lawn. Suddenly, Washington appeared and smiling, held out his hand. According to Peale, “no sooner…did that heavy iron bar feel the grasp of his mighty hand than it lost the power of gravitation and whizzed through the air, striking the ground far, very far, beyond our utmost limits.”
    As he walked away, Washington slyly observed, “When you beat my pitch, young gentlemen, I’ll try again.”"
    I wonder how far Washington could throw a disc in ideal winds?

      The ceiling height might be an issue. It gets as low as 16' in some places. But you would have 800' of length to work with.

      if you look up world's largest hangers, there is one in cali and one in oregon that would both be perfect, i have no contacts but its worth a shot to contact them... both over 1000 ft and nearly 150 ft height, 300 ft wide. so plenty of space...

    If you are going to do the distance throw indoors what you want is an indoor full sized soccer field, I can think of a few and some Indoor Canadian Football field might work too as the field itself is 328 feet minimum. Then you have the extra part and you could throw corner to corner.

      Rob McLeod yes it seems you are right. Where is the one that stores the Goodyear blimps? that might be most Ideal. If the contestants find that is too short then nothing will work.

    Hey Dosen't David wiggins Jr still have the furthest throw with a disc as a kid in the 9 and under or whatever that is? He threw like 500 feet? or so at the Disc golf World Championships distance competition as an 8 year old. I read that somewhere in a disc golf magazine. The fact that he has been sponsored by Innova the whole time from Innovas Jr division to near what the top pro gets is Amazing.

    Would it not be cool to have a competition in one of the many halls at Hannover Messe in Germany? Not at the same time as CeBIT though...

    Very impressive young men. Great athletes, hard workers, intense competitors, humble too. Love the respect they show for the sport and each other.

    the records are stupid if it depends on wind. you should have to throw with no wind to get a record or even just have a maximum amount.

    • @elhior23
      @elhior23 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is actually how a lot of other sports do it. Going to a place that has ridiculous amount of wind to see how far the wind can take a disc is not the record for how far someone can throw it. That is just silly. It is the same as if you went on top of a mountain and threw it. As for arbitrary number no it wouldn't be, it would be decided upon by the governing body of the sport who are educated about the sport, just like anything else. You pretend as if this is rocket science it is very simple stuff.

    I wonder if disc golf throws could be measured similarly like regular golf can be, with the indoor monitors they have: th-cam.com/video/zCxoeOeoDN0/w-d-xo.html
