Playlist : 1.Meek Mill Feat. Rick Ross - Ima Boss 2.Critical Point Feat. Ken the 390 Taro Soul 3.Knife Party - Bonfire 4.Skrillex - Kyoto (feat. Sirah)
Amazing!!!! He challenged new style away from his custom style of hip hop, and finally won!!! mean his sense of core is strong and clean and beautiful, whatever he play any kinds of music.
There are actually some really sick patterns in Izoh's routine and some transitions between juggles to scratches to bodytricks that are really difficult to do. The part where he triggers the hihats off serato while manipulating the pitch over two decks has never been done in dmc before either. his music choice isn't everyone's cup of tea (myself included) but there are some tight points in this set that are really impressive.
those of you who were't there at the DMC would find it hard to understand the judges' decisions, but these judges are not looking for anything objective or compositive elements, they see what DJs try to achieve, and judges catch the essence of the DJ's intention, and get to appreciate it. Plus what the sounds you are hearing on this TH-cam version is very very different from what we heard that evening at HMV Forum. Seriously, the judges were giving standing ovations after the performance.
Yeah I agree I expected more especially since the djs have the luxury of using timecode now. I just hope that more people decide to compete so we can hear everyone.
All I can say is if people aren't satisfied with how the dmc is then I encourage everyone to participate in dmc related events that will put you in this position.
I love it when the DJ culture hits from Japan, but I am till waiting for the DJ anime, since there is some much focusing on Rock and Roll, I want to see DJ ANIME!!!!!
The five elements of hip hop have always been based on high levels of skill . Hand eye coordination , breath control and others . I like this as another example of hip hop showing what humans are capable of .
Sorry my good sir, didn't mean to be unrespectful. You guys are freakin awesome and got unbeliveable skills. My comment was lame and unapropriate since since Im really feeling this stuff.
I wonder how many of these new school cats noticed he was using a technics mixer with serato interface. Most are using ranes. I give him credit for that alone, no gimmicks in his set.
naoki20002 Because it's not real hip hop, this brother lacks soul. You need to check out the late 80's 90's DJ such as Craze, dj Aladdin and DJ Cash Money.
naoki20002 Because even with all of todays tech help this dude still manages to be sloppy as fuck ... because check out " dream team" 1993 for example : did all the stuff this guy is doing 22 years ago without a mac and with a WAY shittier mixer . Or yeah indeed check dj craze , cash money , a-track , plus one and so many more ... even better : look at dj rafik and how just about everyone wants to sound like him ever since ...
wayne marshall I agree those dj's are dope in their own respect but for the first time these kids and some vets are getting it. That is hip hop is dead and it's not what the kids listen to. If any dj want to be relevant then he has to transcend the same SH$T. These guys have so watch out old timer the kids rule.
naoki20002 I think people that don't dig this are "traditionalists". I also grew up in the '80s-'90s and the DJ's of those times are legendary as they created the foundation of hip hop & turntablism. My personal favourite is still the older or traditional turntablism but what we see here is the modern and we cannot really blame these young kids. The music is different, the technology is different and the rules in the DMC are different. Now they allow digital technology, a big difference from using only vinyl records. I do not think hip hop is dead but rather "down". I think the spirit of hip hop will always survive and the real hip hop will come back.
Wow, with this comment you held a mirror to my mind,lol...as a battle dj myself, I always believed in the point you made about "the best routines are first approachable and entertaining, but technical under the surface."
It's not quite the same with people having all their samples lined up on a custom pressing or serato/traktor, part of the charm was having hunted for records and switching them at lightning speed! Turntablism is still impressive, but somehow doesn't feel authentic
that's why I would separate digital DMC from analog.. the essence of DMC championship was to change wax, cue them fast, scratch, beatjuggle.. I'm not saying this dude is garbage, but serato makes it way easier. serato/traktor is good for live performances for dj's who plays in clubs, parties, so they have more creativity.
I have thought about using DVS in the classical way and buy a ton of control vinyl and sticker marking each one for specific tracks, and then when you change the vinyl it changes the tracks and if your in absolute mode the sticker will give you the cue point you need,
The performance was good why ya all dissing it ,see the bit wen drops the fog horn ,you can feel the vibes comeing off this dj ,i wish All set ups was like this
You're all entitled to your opinions and not everyone will ever agree when it's about an art and music. But do me a favour guys, respect the standard he's reached, respect the 2000 people who gave him a stranding ovation at the 2012 finals. You have no idea how much these world champions put into their set but it is more than you would ever commit to, which is why they are kings and you are moaning buggers! (Continued) Tony bloody Prince.
DMC World hey DMC what are the rules regarding the use of fx and the loop recorder in the main battle, I now I can use them for the online battles but can I use them at the proper event? I tend to make proper sounding tracks using techniques these days and to be fair it time the sound changed a bit, people always say they cant dance to what we do maybe its time we made them dance, after all the birth of the artform was about making people dance
I think many people are arguing because they don't necessarily understand what they like or dislike in this routine. I think it has its pros and cons, honestly it's not my cup of tea but that doesn't mean it isn't a difficult routine to perform and for people that aren't satisfied with izoh's routine then practice and participate in these competitions. We can moan and complain but it won't change anything.
Everything seems to be supper fast these days a lot of the competition seems to be about who can go the fastest, it was a bit more slow temp back in the days we had that period in the 90s to 2000 where people where really making music with the deck such as craze and so on i guess i am just a old git really love the whats happening now thou great set.
I learnt how to mix two records on two Techniques turntables . But years before that I remember stretching the belt on my Mums' old record player . I have enjoyed several Serato and Traktor based compositions I have listened to or viewed . But I remember when your song list was based upon the records you owned .
FYI: I started collecting vinyl in '83 at age 10. Got my first set of realistic turntables & mixer from radio shack at 15. Got my first & only pair of 1200s in '94. I'm still rockin 'em. I got about 6k rekkids. I got the serato program but don't use it. Never even installed it. Still do mixtapes using my tascam 4-track. I tried DMC back in the day and never got past the prelims, both times, not ashamed of that cuz the comp was steep... p-trix, swift rock, tropic, mike c, etc..
In my opinion, this is the set that signaled the end of the "D.M.C." I guess it's true: "All good things come to an end." I got a little hope when "Fly" got his 2nd title in 2013. But "Switch" as your 2014 champ along with this set proves to me that it aint about "music" any more. It's become a contest of "Timed controller manipulation." No disrespect to Izoh or Switch, They did what was needed to win... For all the youngsters who think this is "amazing," Please watch Kentaro in 2002(technical beast)/ Craze in 98, 99, 2000(3-peat champ)
Vajra's victory gave me hope but this, Fly and LigOne were real let downs. I've come to accept Mr. Switch's set after seeing it uploaded somewhere else where his movements matched the audio but after Shiftee's set in 2009 the only great DJ after that was Vajra.
I think when he scratches hes off.. but the transitions are really really well done,.. and he has some crazy combos in there... But I agree with you on but just on the scratching part.. That why I loveCraze most of all loool hes got an amazing flow and no matter what hes always on time wich is ridiculous xD
Agreed but this is pure turntablism, rather than DJing!! This is ALL about the technical skills involved in the routine and, whether you like this or not (I'm actually not a fan at all), the skills involved in creating this are INSANE!

It's not the software dude it the person using it, and this is what using music that is to complex for the artform sounds like
in case your question is genuine, he is playing the songs on the laptop via his records, using an interface device.
