    Everytime he has entered the DMCs he has structured his sets onto custom vinyl. He is amazingly technical to remember the timings within his routines and has the skills to back it up. He ain't 2008 and 2013 champ for nothing

    What an astounding performance, so many different sounds and mixing styles! No wonder he's Dj Fly, those hands are flying across the platters and faders. 10/10 routine!

    The mentality for people who started close to the beginning of digital DJing have a much different mentality than those who started in the mid 90's and earlier as to what constitutes a routine. The battle DJ's these days are closer to live remixers with turntablism thrown in. These guys are super fresh and I highly respect what they do. Even if the files are pre-made it isn't a lot different from having pre-made vinyls which started in the mid 00's or so? Us oldies have that special place in our hearts for the old school sets, but let's not act like the newer battle DJ's aren't putting in work.

      word... I used to hate on serato traktor and what not... a friend gave me his traktor s4 kontrol and I started to check it out and I must admit that there is nothing better nor a more complex thing to deal with, when DJing... Forget the sync button... those who really play with the software don't even come close to touching it... What you can do with cue points and loops is beyond possible when using vinyl. So from my point of view its an enrichment more than an impairment. depends on how you use it though...

      thing is, theres nothing innovative going on here even with the advanced technology provided...this set is one big cop out IMO...he hasnt taken the technology and flipped it to create a next level routine...theres obviously a level of skill involved here but its nothing even remotely close to as creative as what guys were doing 10 yrs ago...the creativity and innovation has taken a back seat even w/ the technological advancements which is truly a shame...

    • @lennybeatz
      @lennybeatz 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to think about it the way you do. But why should you always take the long road to achieve something... even though he prepared it and he doesn't have to do a lot like changing vinyl or placing the needle precisely the sound is great. and his scratching is very skillful... if he was flipping some vinyls no one would complain... but he doesn't even try to hide what he is doing... most DJs are kind of delusive. they twist knobs here and there and prelisten on their headphones now and then... most of the time they are acting... ;)

  • @PlatinumEagleStudios
    @PlatinumEagleStudios 10 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    So what if his sets are pre programed? He CAN still scratch and we all know it. He has the talent of mixing with two records. While other's like to have one play and the other used for scratching. DJ Fly is amazing. This set was EPIC. You know it guys, this guy can scratch. His talent of using voice as well as epicly sweet beats is beyond me. He might not be as good as Q-Bert or Kentaro, but this guy is right up there with them. I think he does use Serato Scratch, but he uses it EPICLY. Keep it up Fly. No wonder he is the champ. FUCKEN AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

    i see some people saying "he's not like the old school" well guys and girls this isn't the old school anymore, technology has brought us a long way.. i'm pretty damn sure someone with this kind of skill can easily dj like they did in the old day, most of these dj's now days who've been doing this for 15-20+ years had to switch the vinyls up and find their mixes.. todays technology just makes it easier and look cleaner, there's no need to hate, the guy is awesome.

      When someone sais SUCKS it doesn't mean that his skills are shit, it relates to the beats and music used in his sets, and it just personal opinion, for me all tracks he used in set sounds like DUBSTEP, not even close to Hip Hop at all, and don't tell me what HipHop music is, I've used to Brake Dance for 12 years and I know that damn very well, nevertheless he can work on turntables properly, but music in sets - sorry but SUCKS!

      Alin N Can you do what he did with any type of music, any type of record, any turntable? Nope. Plus, he did this set AFTER he won world champion with it. Of course he had a look at me attitude, because this wasn't a set, it was a demonstration.

    Stop with all the rap hands, facial gurning, lip-syncing, and pointing etc. It's cringeworthy. You're not Roc Raida. You're playing commercial EDM with preset cues.

      Blood Music If anything, he deserves to do that, unlike many headlining "DJs" who press play and its easy then on out. You see the talent that goes into making this sort of thing. A DJ's job is to perform and entertain. Reaching out to your audience is probably the best way to communicate with your audience.

    • @WEAREBLOODMUSIC
      @WEAREBLOODMUSIC 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Zac Hohn
      Of course - a simple "press play" DJ is a charlatan. But A DJ shouldn't need to perform himself, physically - unless he's a battle DJ doing body tricks, or just happens to want to move / dance! Doing stupid gestures, playing to the crowd with exaggerated grandstanding etc - that's just embarrassing. PLAY / MANIPULATE MUSIC. That's your job. You're not a mime artist or pop star. And if you're a battle DJ, then just do that really well and hold your poise. If you're good you don't need to be gurning and gesticulating like Mr. Bean in a rap video.

    • @mrstickytheog4459
      @mrstickytheog4459 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a few points there. I'm going to have to say though, is that there's a difference between a meh DJ and a good DJ. On many headlining acts at festivals, you still see some of the biggest names jumping up and down, making that damn frickin annoying love heart sign and hyping up the crowd. Of course you have to work hard and manipulate the music, but its those features and 'mimes" that help you form your own style. I think its better to stand out and be recognized, rather than be thought of as boring and being thought of having no crowd interaction. You have every right to think that as embarrassing, but I believe that its those types of things that can assist you, even a little, to form your own style and flare.

    • @WEAREBLOODMUSIC
      @WEAREBLOODMUSIC 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      As someone who has played many huge festival and rave stages, I have seen many big name DJs do all that crap from side stage, often while doing very little actual DJing. And in many cases it was / is just a display they do without any real enthusiasm or heart. An act. However there are DJs who interact with the crowd a lot, but with sincerity - cos they're really enjoying themselves up there. That's great. It's the best. But when the showboating becomes as important as the music, then we've hit trouble. Personally I've always preferred playing clubs where I'm not the centre of attention - the music is. Being up on stage in front of thousands is fantastic, but I don't really want a huge crowd to stand facing front and expect heart hands / Jesus poses etc as if watching TV - I just want them to dance! For me, the best DJs - in either the dance or battle realms - are the ones who just get on with it, and are honest / natural - Themselves.

DJ David, Q-Bert, C2C, DJ Reckless, Rocksteady DJ's, DJ Yoshi, DJ Trip etc. I want to see DJ's putting a record, yes, record on. Cueing it up, getting another record, cueing that up too & looping. Actually putting in the time to keep refining and tweaking the two tracks you plan to use for a set is a ton of hard work. He probably started with the original songs and did a ton of beat juggles to figure out what parts he wanted where etc Then you have to cut the songs apart and offset them to match your own personal style and practice your timing over and over before it's performance ready. In reality it's the same as the DMCs of old since at some point most of the DJs were pressing their own vinyl or gluing / taping together layered records the rest were just flipping through records extremely quickly. But after practice over and over it's just the same as flipping a song on a laptop. A scratch is a scratch and a beat juggle still requires skill.

      I know I'm a little late to the party but it has to be said. First of all, since when was the DMC's a hip hop battle? You're way off base and have no idea what your talking about. The DMC's have nothing to do with the genre of music you choose to showcase. Secondly and more importantly, Craze's set had drum and bass elements to it.

    • @chefk.tremblay1928
      @chefk.tremblay1928 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The DMC was not a hiphop battle at first but only a DJ competition and not a turntablist one. IT was taken over from turntablist because they were scratching. So the DMC was dead right when hiphop artists got into it, because it was not and never intended to be a turntablist competition. And btw, we are in 2018 and there are still DMC competition, so guess what? It still alive.

    • @Sysaphys
      @Sysaphys 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You too are a little off base. If you're going to talk about the DMC at least do some homework. The DMC championship was created in 85 and was intended to be a DJ mixing competition. And most of the music that was being played at the time was...era specific rap and urban pop. So Hip-hop/rap music and hip-hop/rap DJ's have been part of the DMC's since day 1. In 1986 DJ cheese scratched in his routine even though scratching was already something that rap DJ's were doing on recorded records. That was 1 year later after the DMC's was introduced. The act of mixing and scratching and cutting is, in and out of itself turntablism and a natural progression of the DMC's itself. The DMC's has always been about technique and skill with 2 turntables. The music you choose to play is irrelevant and has never been about the music.

Don't post comments if you don't know what the fuck you're talking about!

      Darryl a real turntablist does not dj in non skip mode .Dj Fly was djing in rel mode thats cheating .The whole goal of the dmc back in the dayz was to do your routine without the record skipping .Pull the laptops away and most djs will fall truth hurts

      True that Robert Barnes. Back in the day when I competed, my records jumped from time to time. That was the challenge. Keeping that needle in the grove and rockin' shit. You have a great point with the laptop bit. Back then it was much more technical with vinyl.

      chris allistar aaand there's nothing wrong with that because Q is an alien with limitless abilities. Shit was too basic. He gave us a language. That's like saying no comedian is original because they're using words. I thought hip hop was dead too...might want to check yourself. Doesn't have to be hip hop at the disco mixing club right? I'm just hear to listen to what he had to say.

    He has skills, but not oldschool skills, in the 90's you had to search your own material, and change the vynils, and had good ideas mixing that sounds, with very more skill than today. See Kentaro with his innovation in 2002 in UK champ, that is real DMC. In the 86 was a change in DMC with dj Cheese, now is totally diffrent, maybe is NOT BAD AT ALL, but in my opinion I preffer the oldies, sorry. Stop hating me without any argument ;)

    • @Fernando7475
      @Fernando7475 10 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I actually searched the video. It´s really good but: think that by now it´s way easier to get you music everywhere in a laptop than carrying around 10kg of vynils. Also cueing it´s easier now. You just press a button and you´re ready to go. Back in the days you have to do it manually, that was a lot of work but, to compensate now days you can do that to hundres of tracks keeping the "hard work" on.
      Now that´s really good skills of DMC but the digital era is now... Also music changes over time just go back to the 50´s. The bases of the "real" DMC just started. By now we have huge "booms" of genres like EDM, trance and psyco. I do like old DMC, c´mon those were the bases for DJing todat but i do like more the stuff you can do with modern DJing. I think you can get more "crazy" sets and DMC like so. :)

    "Lol Serato boy" "He didnt deserve the title with a serato"
    GUYS
    The rules said serato was allowed and judged at the same effect than a vinyl.
    So he just created this 6 mins with serato for 2 simply reasons.
    Its way more easy to create and play in live with serato and if it was allowed, why keep playing with classic vinyl ?
    Its waaay more risky and taking risks on a final round of international competition are not a very good idea if taking risks didnt count.
    Finally, if you think this guy didnt deserve a DMC title cuz of serato, take a look a the DMC 2008...

      Actually That one IS a real vinyl!!! It's a tone read by a soundcard... I see you POV, but Serato allows you to add stuff where a 2 ordinary records set woouldn't.
      Also Dj used to edit tracks in studios (just as they do now) and went to press edited copies for battles. Trust me he could do that with a "REAL VINYL" too. Nowadays technology allows you not to spend 100$ pressing records you're gonna battle with. that's it.
