Derek and the Dominos live version at Filmore east and Electric Factory in the seventies blows this one away... Back then Clapton was at the top of his game and Jim Gordon was a monster who was one of the handful of drummers along with Mr Ginger Baker who could keep up with Genius Clapton's fiery solos without missing a beat
+running man The main difference betwen the "Derek And The Dominos" live versions is that the guitar has more distortion and yes...J. Gordon was awesome in all of those versions. -_-
This man is pushin 70 he has always been the best by far from style standpoint. If you think jimi, srv, page, thats cool EC was the impetus for so much and so many
Thank God for Eric Clapton! This man used to hold audiences silently enthralled through sublime 30 mn. solos in the 60s 70's, and 80's (I was there), and at 4:06 some intense fire erupts from the master... Don't you dare doubt it folks: EC STILL has something important to say on that Strat!
I saw him in September 2023 in Denver, and while he didn't do this song, that screaming note effect you referenced appeared several times during that show. I've been playing guitar for nearly 35 years and don't know how he does it. It's kind of one of those signature things no one else can get quite right.
I doubt at the time they wrote this they realized it was a clear and concise mission statement for AA. I personally can't think of another tune anywhere close. =========================================================== Mr Jordan is a rock-solid player-superb.
🎸Amazing song and I love it. 🎸✌☝️

Great version, but I miss Bobby Whitlock on the backing vocals.
Booby now tells us it is 50 years since the band released Layla. Even with 9 lives it sure seems like forever. And it is a bit better.
