The greatest tribute to Jeff Beck is the fact that literally nobody on that stage sounded a thing like him and Eric Clapton is my favorite guitar player to ever live. Clapton, Hendrix, SRV, and Freddie King spawned millions of clones but there will only ever be one Jeff Beck. I honestly believe he might be the most impossible guitarist to duplicate of all time. NOBODY sounds like Jeff Beck! That is the ULTIMATE compliment that can be paid to a guitar player! Other guitar players understand exactly what I'm saying!
Yes Jeff walked his own path from the beginning to the end..

I had the pleasure and honor of knowing and playing with the legendary Freddy King, and I know he would be smiling down on that performance. Jeff Beck was so far ahead of his time, and one of the most underrated musicians ever. I know many will miss his great talent.
derek is so gifted and humble at the same time .... He is relatively young but already a legend !
he's like, "do you really want me to play ?" and after an hesitation , gave the guitar solo of the evening....

As many great guitarists as there were on stage, Derek Trucks was head and shoulders above everyone else *this night*. His command of the guitar is extraordinary. Duane would be proud.
Derek's note selection and phrasing are different than most others. I hear Ravi Shankar influence. His tone cut through with alot of high end. The sweet highs not the menacing frequencies

Agreed now if only I at 55 could quit drinking and smoking maybe I can make it to old age. It's a lot harder when you work online and are habitually alone.
John McLaughlin is 3 years older, amazingly over 80 years old, spirituality must account for something as well!
@@bertbecker7532 spirituality yes but highly successful musicians often live long if they don't die young due to drugs and / or car crashes etc. Getting the kind of attention they get onstage and off helps your psychological well being in addition to the creative process.
@@jayclarke6671 I was habitually alone and managed to get sober. The only thing stopping you is you! There are plenty of organisations out there that can help. If you're in the UK I wholeheartedly recommend Change Grow Live Their meetings are done on a zoom call so you don't even need to leave your house.

For PJSY85 to make a 'joke' out of this tragedy shows what sort of person s/he is.
That's a good point. To grow musically and personally around so many musicians, forge a friendship with many of them, and eventually, playing for their appretiation after they're gone... So harsh.

John was ripping but we couldn’t hear him and I love butch but McLaughlin is the other greatest of all on the stage he was flying. God I miss Beck he was the best I ever saw. Was Rod hammered?
McLaughlin is hands down the best player on that stage, bar none!
From ~3:15 - 4:00 Kirk Hammett was totally LOVING that he was playing beside John McLaughlin; look at that grin!

The usual sloppy, glorious affair. Hard to hear anyone really cutting through...and then Trucks steps up. Perfectly sits in that swamp and sings. That guy is amazing.

I saw Trucks with the Allman brothers back in 90 or around then, he was just a kid. Amazing

It is so inspiring hearing Eric Clapton standing up for a friend. Friends are precious, especially when they belong to a great but disappearing generarion. RIP Jeff. You were the greatest rock guitar player I ever heard, with apologies to God of course (Eric Clapton). What a beatiful concert.

Depp's had a good run of late. Beats real life version of Amy Dunne in court, makes triumphant return to acting glory, and gets to play guitar next to Clapton in front of a capacity crowd at the Albert Hall.

Yeah…nice tribute to J Beck…I noticed the same thing…all the sound was muddled…then D. Trucks started to play…cut through like a screaming eagle…a very musical eagle…!!🎶🎶🎶
My wife and I were in Nashville in 2015 for a nursing convention. We got tickets to see Jeff Beck at the Ryman the day before the show. We couldn’t believe it wasn’t sold out. We saw Jeff Beck and ZZ Top six months before but this was better.

Nice tribute. This is just and jam and sound was an issue but Derek Trucks is the man in the rock blues genre now.

I see what you did there, lol. I've never been a huge thrash/metal fan so Hammett's playing was lumped in there mind UNTIL the Black Metallica album. I respected that he adopted some blues elements and used a Wah. Jonny Depp on the other hand is just shit.

Really nice to see all that talent pay/play their respects to the one and only Jeff Beck... It was hard for the sound guys to make each of the individuals stand out - Rod Stewart for example could hardly be heard, nor the other girl vocalists, but no matter, it was still great to just see them all there together for Jeff. I totally agree that he can never be copied, but still love the individual talents that were there on the evening. Vive la difference (in guitar playing) such a rich tapestry of talent.
