I put a red dot stick on pickup under plate guard for Flamenco . I also deadened the strings with Velcro on the bridge for les sustain and seemingly better attack .
Thank you, I really enjoyed that. Very interesting guitar, to say the least. You're a really wonderful player, too, and I look forward to seeing additional videos from you. Congrats on your guitar and abilities.
I also love my Yamaha SLG's. I solved the golpe problem with a 1/8 " piece of scrap wood. I cut the piece to fit over the area of the pick guard and glued it with couple of dabs of hot melt glue. It looks like hell but it works for me!!
Thanks Carlo for your review. I am really considering buying this guitar as I travel extensively and this would help me to have practice time while sitting in my hotel rooms without annoying other hotel guests
Really enjoyed your review, your playing, and your friendly approach. I am an absolute beginner with a good standard classical guitar. I bought this guitar really so I can practice at any hour of the day and not disturb my neighbours (condo life). I need to get those 10,000 hours behind me. So far my issue is the guitar slipping (I play more standard classical positioning with the guitar head opposite my face -- more or less). I want to explore the possibility of those supports one can use when not wanting to have a footrest. Hoping that helps. Also getting a strap as well.
Thanks for the nice review. You are playing very good. Really fun. I also so have this guitar since a few years. I made some electrical modifications (equalizer and remote control) and mechanical modifications like better arm support, so I can also play flamenco, Jimi Hendrix or classical music. Further a non silent approach, with special mounted MEMS loudspeaker, in case my friends also want to hear what I play. In this way, I do not have to carry and amp with me all the time and the total weight of my guitar is not more than 4 kg. So I have only one guitar to play silent and not silent.
Hi Carlo, thank you for your perfect, realistic presentation of the Silent guitar. Of course you will never get the sound of a Hermanos Conde Flamenco guitar even if we would like to have it. Probable in another price category. Anyway I got the best information in order to buy or let the guitar rest in the Music store. You are a good guitar player, congratulation!! Keep on posting.
You're playing is music for my soul ! I wonder if flamingo players could attach a thin piece of wood to the top somehow, so that you could use that technique to play the flamingo music. Maybe replace the pick quard with a larger extension ?
Great review. I play some flamenco but mostly Spanish and classical. The quiet is very important to me. Plus it’s looks cool! Another great guitar to play and hang on the wall.

Hey I just bought a silent guitar and I played some flamenco on it. It sounds like Ben Woods playing a guitar. He is flamenco guitar extraordinaire with a silent guitar.
I love this review! Carlo, is there any other "silent" option for flamenco players? Would this guitar be ok practice any flamenco technique that doesn't involve "golpe" ? I am interested in this one only for playing flamenco at night assuming in advanced that I can't practice golpes with it as the only downside.
P.s. It's a beautiful guitar and you have to pre-order and it doesn't have a full body acoustic sound. All the reviews show versatility for playing classical music genres.Phillip Austin
Carlo, grazie ottima recensione! Grazie!
Carlo, I want to obtain one of the nylon string Yamaha 'silent' guitars, but I'm not sure whether to go with the 200N or the 200 NW (the "classical" style wider neck)? Does the slightly thinner neck of the 200N significantly affect playing a classical style piece?
Hi Jay, sorry for my late reply. If you are looking for the standard neck size to play classical guitar, maybe the NW is more suitable to your needs. Personally, I prefer to have a thinner neck, but in the end, it is a matter of taste.
@@CarloEspresso Thanks for the response, Carlo. In truth I am more inclined toward the "hybrid" model at this point. Perhaps out of curiosity. I do play more chord melody style jazz standards than straight classical these days. Some have suggested the flat finger board of the classical with the added finger width is slightly easier for the right hand to articulate. Or to put it another way does the hybrid fingerboard of the N model inhibit playing classical pieces?
Hi - I really enjoyed your review and playing! I am a SAXOPHONIST and PIANIST - I've never played guitar. Is the instrument you are reviewing here Yamaha's "classical" version of their silent guitar series? I thought that would be "NW"? I see that Yamaha currently offers both the "N" and the "NW" versions; they state that the "N" is a "classical" guitar, but then say that the "NW" is 'especially for classical guitarists." I would be playing Jazz (including Bossa Nova) on my guitar. I have really large hands and long fingers (I am six foot six inches tall), so regardless of style, would I not be better off getting the larger, "NW" version? Thank you!
( Please excuse my poor Spanish ) Hola Julio, ¡Gracias por dejar tu comentario!
Thank you! Really great review of possibilities, but I've been waiting for "silence" of guitar. Recording of how it sounds for people without headphones. Can I play in the same room where my wife sleeps or should I go to the kitchen? :)
Hi, thanks for the review of the slg200n. Which amp do you use? I ask because i baught the same guitar and for the same reason as you. I would like to try it plugged in though as I am able to play without disturbing anyone now.
Thank you Carlo for such a comprehensive review. I have one question. I understand that the 200N version has a narrower fret than the new model 200NW version. Did you find playing the N200 fretboard to be a problem?
Hi, and thanks for your comment. I didn’t have the chance to try the 200NW. But I really like the neck of the 200N. So, it’s not a problem at all, quite the opposite. But if you’re more into classical music, the 200NW may be more suitable I guess. If you’re not sure, it would be best to try both models in a music shop. But this is personal preference.
Hi Carlo, I bought the NW but following your recommendation I have asked to try the N just in case. I am waiting for it to come to the shop. Can i ask what amp lead you use ?
Hi and sorry for my late reply. Actually any amps or speakers, I don't have any preference. The guitar has already a pre-amp and built-in effects. By the way, did you choose between the NW and N ? ( Just curious which on you liked the most ). Thanks
Hi, thank you for the excellent review. I was just wondering how thick / thin the neck is? I played a cheaper Yamaha classical in a store a while ago and noticed the neck was extremely thick and hindered play-ability quite a bit (I don't have particularly large hands). Is the neck profile on this guitar a bit thinner perhaps? Guitar stores near me don't stock this instrument, so i'd have to order online. Thank you again for the review, excellent playing!
Hi there and thanks for your comment! The neck is actually quite thin and really comfortable. Much thinner than what you’ll find on most classical guitars. Just make sure not to buy the “200NW” because it’s the same guitar but with a larger neck. Hope that helped!
Where does the sound of the guitar come from in this video? you have it amped and recording the room sound or is it directly plugged into a audio interface to your computer?
Hi Carlo, do you still use this Yamaha guitar? Older models have a hummer and the tendency is to increase until the internal plate breaks. What is the battery life on this model?
Hi in first thanks for your review. I have the same guitar since 2 or 3 years, and still don't find the best guitar settings to have the closer classical guitare sound. Could you help me to fix it plz ?In my case at the beginning it's strange to have a comfortable playing with the silent guitar 200n
Thank you for your review! I’ve been thinking about this guitar for quite a while, never had a chance to check it myself. What I want to find out is whether there’s a noticeable and unpleasant feedback noice in headphones/speakers if you try to play some quite music at high volume. Thought I’d ask here, although I can see how this type of questions can be annoying, after all you are not a shop assistant. Best regards to you anyway!
Hi Sergey, No problem at all. It’s hard to give you an answer, maybe try to switch cables/speakers and see if the noise is still there. If you’re still having an issue, if may come from the guitar. But I can’t say for sure. Hope that helps.
Carlo Espresso Thank you! I guess, I hoped that you would say something like “oh, this guitar has a terrible background noise” and I would stop thinking about it :-) Well, hope one day to check it myself; purchasing such things without trying them first is not a good idea anyway.
Hi.Carlo ,very nice comments, thanks, would you recommend me to buy it,as I play solos. Can I attach further gadgets like pedals n syntheizr.? Good wishes 💐

I totally agree with your review... I have one as well. It provides a sustain that is unlike a pure acoustic Spanish or classical guitar.
Nothing can compete with the sound of a real acoustic guitar, agreed. But the SLG200n is great a what it does.

I would like yamaha to put a soundhole in there to amplify the sound naturaly somewhat, and a small dual speaker setup in that hole so one can play out with these without an amp or headphones.
You can tape an mp3 player to it for background music, and have the guitar sound amplified through the speaker.
Wouldnt it be cool if there was a switch to toggle between cedar and spruce top?
I received the 200-NW and when compared to an hollow body guitar, it lacks the dynamics and the tonal quality of a real hollow body. Well crafted and the action is incredible.

The neck is actually quite thin and really comfortable. Much thinner than what you’ll find on most classical guitars.
Just make sure not to buy the “200NW” because it’s the same guitar but with a larger neck.
Hope that helped!
hi i from Brasil. excellent 👏👏👏
Obrigado!
Can you also review the traveler guitar pro series mod-x?
Nice guitar, i really like it ✌️
Why did you choose the SLG200N instead the SLG200NW? is the action lower on this one? Sounds great! Cheers
Excelente 👌
Where does the sound of the guitar come from in this video? you have it amped and recording the room sound or is it directly plugged into a audio interface to your computer?
Great review! You mentioned that the action is high. Is there a truss rod, or can the bridge be lowered?
Yes, just like an electric guitar 👍.
Hi Carlo, do you still use this Yamaha guitar? Older models have a hummer and the tendency is to increase until the internal plate breaks. What is the battery life on this model?
Yes I still use it. It's still working great! Battery life is decent, but you can still use power adapter if needed.
Hi Sergey,
No problem at all.
You can lower the action by decreasing the saddle height.
Hi.Carlo ,very nice comments, thanks, would you recommend me to buy it,as I play solos. Can I attach further gadgets like pedals n syntheizr.?
Good wishes 💐
So cool but they should have had a bottom plate and left the top open so that you could play it :)
What's the song at 1:00?
P.s.: great video and fantastic playing!
Good model indeed. Is lefty version available on market?
Hi Carlso, I just bought SLG200S, it Buzzes when I release the string or note. Did you make any adjustments to your
SLG200N? BTW, great finger style playing, you are very talendet to play this in two years. great job.
