    Pretty educational md about Wilde and all. The Tekton pliers look to be solid behind that Made is the USA.

      +Emery they're definitely good to go, Emery. A great USA made option if you're getting tired of that Channellock blue but don't want to overpay.

    I have a pair of Wilde brand battery pliers and ignition pliers. I am pleased with the quality of both.

    Honestly I have always thought that Tekton was an Asian brand.
    I recently purchased a set of three slip joint pliers from Wilde Tools in Hiawatha, Kansas and I am extremely pleased with the product, looking forward to purchasing more hand tools from them.

      I have been pleasantly surprised by the relatively high quality of tekton tools.

      74% of Tekton is made in Taiwan, 23% in USA.

    Thanks to you I just went to the Wilde website and bought a bunch of tools. While I was digging around I found a $120 discontinued set of screwdrivers for $24, as well as a $30+ set of needle nose for half price.

    the big thing Wilde made for Craftsman were the red plastic handled pry bars. Tekton.com website offers free shipping over $30, & reward points. Go Tekton!!!!

      +Fedwrench Yep, I own those pry bars. Good stuff.

      Not true (in all cases) today. Be careful. There's a set of Craftsman prybars made in India that look close to the Wilde made USA units. The USA ones are getting tougher to find. I have several sets/individual units. A couple of times they were half price or less at Sears and I grabbed them then.

    Before they shut down Western Forge, WF was making the IDEAL and SK slip joints for a while. They may have moved to sourcing from WILDE. I bought an SK set for my my step mom and one was clearly the WF/Ideal design (not sure if it was finished/hardened the same) while the other looked exactly like the Wilde. Anyway, I just picked up some 6" ideal slip joints from HJE for $6 a pop and they should be either identical too or quite similar to the black handled Craftsman. All I know is I particularly like WF 6" slip joints I've used more than my 6" Snap-Ons. 8" and up is a different story. I'll chime in when they show up and confirm whether or not they are the same.

    Wilde makes a nice set of pliers! I just picked up a pair of 8” slip joints and 6 1/2” slip joints with thin nose for about $5ea on HJE. Here is the thing though... I also picked up a pair of Harbor Freight Doyle slip joints for around $4 with the coupon and I think I like them better than the Wilde. 😬

    Wilde makes a flush rivet design for those pliers I like their slip joints and water pump pliers better than channelock I also have a ring compressor and some brake tools by Wilde all good stuff

      @mdlee52  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Yellow stone Falls I think the only thing I have by them is the Craftsman striking cap pry bars. I've been very impressed by other stuff I've seen from them, though. I need to think of an excuse to get a pair of their flush rivet slip joint pliers. LOL

    Since WF and S-K Tools are both owned by Ideal Industries, the S-K pliers are the same as the WF Craftsman. Wilde made Craftsman has a P code on it.

  • @alamina17

    I know they are just slipjoint pliers but channellock makes a 10inch "professional" style of slip joint that has a different shape and the length gives them a nice robust feel that can kinda accomplish some of the things you do with a linesman or nice for holding things.

    • @mdlee52
      @mdlee52  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kev M I know that Channellock offers those in both 8in and 10in. I think those are called the heavy duty slip joint pliers.

      Do you have Meijers by you? In Michigan Meijer tool section is full Tekton. I gotta admit when I pick their stuff up its super smooth and everything feels really nice but I have a hard time getting over the foreign made. Have any experience with other Tekton stuff?

    • @mdlee52
      @mdlee52  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kev M I know tekton is owned by Michigan industrial tools so it doesn't surprise me that they would have a wider selection local. No, I live in the Pacific Northwest and I don't have that store anywhere near me. Ione a few other small tekton items and they all seem to be pretty good quality especially considering the price.

    I really want to make a complete Tekton set of various pliers, ratchets & sockets but where some are made concern me. The 7" slim long nose pliers by Tekton is made in Taiwan. I know the warranty, regardless of manufacturing location is still forever. I just can't decide if I should go with: all Tekton, channellock & husky or some weird mix of all 3. I'm not using any of them professionally & they've all each got their pros & cons. Husky Pro ratchets got 144 teeth while Tekton only 90. Tekton long nose is also narrower than Channellocks, I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing for me because I've always used whatever cheapest junk parents had. Channellock's 10" channellock can open to 2" while Tektons is only 1.5. If you've got any advice on what sizes, shapes or anything else from these various brands I'd really appreciate it.

    I have seen at lowes that southwire has moved some of their pliers to the united states. The package said Georgia on them. Id love to see a review on them. I bought their usa made crimpers and wasn’t too impressed, because im used to my channelock crimping tool.

    I carry ideal 35-100 everyday of my life. I will only buy/carry a riveted pair. The nut loosens up on the pivot bolt, and always needs played with moving forward. Even the Doyle at harbor freight is riveted and a decent pair. Riveted=ideal, craftsman, channel lock, Doyle, crescent, Menards master force. I’d be lost with out my edc pliers.

    Oh, and you can get those Tektons on Ebay as well as Amazon, about the same price,for those of you who are like me and hate Amazon..I'm no Ebay fanboy, either, but I use my Paypal balance I have from online sales to buy stuff online, so Ebay makes more sense for me..also, those Mac pliers..be aware that all Mac pliers are not made in USA..most of them in the "bagged sets"(including the slip-joints) are made in China...

  • @MrAnonymousRandom
    @MrAnonymousRandom 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the 8" Tekton slip joint pliers and the 7" water pumps. If I remember correctly there's even a wk marking on one of them. Comparing my Tekton one to the Chanellocks I see in store, the finishing on the Channellock might be a tad better. The main selling point of the Tekton pliers is ease of warranty. You can probably get away with abuse. I hope Tekton will make all their pliers in the US some day. With Chanellocks, unless you are buying from a supplier who may be willing to be less strict than the conditions on the Channellock website, you're out of luck. As for the western forge craftsman pliers I have, they look and work okay but I prefer using my Tekton or Chanellock branded pliers. Also, with Sears having inventory issues, warrantying stuff is an issue. I highly doubt Stanley will be able to turn Craftsman around. They've already wrecked Mac, Husky, Blackhawk, and Porter cable just to name a few. I'm buying up any Craftsman USA/rebrands from a good subcontractor before Stanley tries to cut any corners.

    I definitely know of Wilde tools and have one product from my grandfather, but I don't shop online and the local hardware store doesn't carry them so I don't buy them.
    I've actually never seen a Wilde tool in stores before.
    If I run across them in stores anywhere I may try some out.
