If you do not have chronic pain you have NO idea what we go through! We do need help and so few even try. I had chronic pain for 30 years before I found a Dr. who took it seriously. It gnaws away at your very soul and impacts every aspect of life. Thanks to efforts like Dr. Bilsky's more Dr.s now at least admit chronic pain is real, but there is a very long way to go if there will ever adequate care for people like me.
Are u still same I feel suicidal state I'm in from chronic pain I've only done six years I'm sitting on ice as I write this and ice in my stomach as the nerve pain is shooting from my back out thru my stomach don't know how much longer I can live with this
I'm glad people like Ed are working on this, but he totally fails to convey how horrifying, infuriating, demoralizing, destructive and humiliating it is to go through this. Saying casually that someone 'went to 3 doctors' translates in to month of suffering in the real world.
Search any books by Dr John Sarno in the library; or else "The Great Pain Deception" by Steve Ozanich (on Amazon), they may be of some help to you.. I wish you love, peace and healing X
Dani Horne Dr Sarno was 30 yrs ahead of his time ..i have healed my lower back pain and pain i used to get in my tailbone (due to breaking my pelvis when i was 18) ; all TMS ...of course.. Amazing man ..God rest his soul
While I applaud the multidisciplinary approach in finding potential aids for chronic pain patients, I'm dismayed at the suggestion patients pop pills like candy. Some of the oft-quoted statistics regarding opiate dangers are skewed by data analysis that does not adjust for redundancies. Lack of access to care, or a lack of coordinated care, has been shown to create outlier percentages of ER utilization in certain populations. Also, while I have compassion for the experiences of the presenter's elderly parents, there is a significant psychosocial difference in developing chronic pain in younger years prior to developing lifetime achievement and/or financial security. Additionally, medications are known to metabolize differently in the elderly (and other at-risk populations). I think we need to untangle the "100 million" figure into more workable components (identifiable subgroups) to better identify risks/strategies moving forward.
Cerys InPain Totally agree! People who take medication for pain DO NOT “pop pills like candy!” He shows his bias when he states so. People who use pain meds for pain do so as a last resort.
Thank you for the video. TEDx people, you are killing me by showing the speaker instead of the slides! Seeing the slides is about 1000 times more important than the speaker. Mr. Bilsky, I applaude you attacking pain, but I hope you intend to do much more than find new drugs. Go to the source.

I have CRPS. It has spread to new areas. The pain is insane. It is nicknamed the suicide disease for a reason.
