Ray Kennedy was a football legend. A force of nature on the pitch for both Arsenal and Liverpool. But his brilliant career was cut short by a devastating disease. This is the story of how Parkinson's Disease destroyed Ray Kennedy's career.
Ray Kennedy, as we all know was a football legend, and he had quite the journey before his glory days on the pitch. Born on July 28, 1951, in Seaton Delaval, Northumberland, England, Ray's early life was marked by a love for the beautiful game. Growing up in the North East of England, football was like a second language to Ray. He kicked his first ball around at a tender age, honing his skills on the streets with his friends. From those humble beginnings, Ray's passion for the sport only grew stronger.Despite his talent, Ray faced many challenges. The first one being, he struggled with dyslexia, a learning difference that made school very tough for him. But on the football field, he found comfort and success. His natural ability caught the eye of local coaches, who saw his potential and nurtured his talent. - กีฬา
Fantastic Player, who didn't deserve the problems he developed.
true my friend, BUT who does?
One of the liverpool greats
Great player,very underrated
A majestic player. He always looked like he had loads of time on the ball. Ray Kennedy was a pleasure to watch. RIP.
A legend just like all the other legends who played for Liverpool that have sadly passed away 😢 may they all RIP 🙏 🎉
A great player for Liverpool and Arsenal. He didn't deserve to suffer from a cruel illness. #YNWA
One of my childhood heroes what a player ray was
He gifted me one of the most beautiful moments of being a Liverpool fan! His goal against Bayern Munich in 1981 which qualified Liverpool to the final of European League to eventually win it. RIP LFC Legend! YNWA
Really love this man when he played for Arsenal. He was majestic. When he moved to Liverpool I still admired him and everything about him and he moved up to greater things
I believe at one time he was the most bemedalled player in English football. RIP Ray, a great football legend❤
As a utd fan nothing but admiration for a proper player greatly missed saw him play for the Vale 🙏
Loved watching him play at anfield
One of liverpools true legends YNWA
I'm more than old enough to have seen and appreciate Ray Kennedy playing for Arsenal, Liverpool and Swansea. My abiding memory of him was that he played a major part in Arsenal's destruction of Liverpool in a league game at Anfield. The next thing you know he had swopped the red shirt of Arsenal for that of the Anfield crew. I also read his biography 'Ray of Hope,' where he detailed his illness - John Toshack, his former Liverpool team mate and by then Ray's manager at Swansea, refused to believe that Ray's illness was a contributory factor in the major episodes of fatigue he suffered and accused him of being lazy. What a sad end to a great career. Sadly, I no longer have Ray's book, I was unwise enough to lend it to someone who never returned it ! RIP Ray.
My uncle Ray, thank you for your kind words! 🙌🏼🖤 It’s really quite strange as neurological disorders run in our family, I have extreme fatigue alongside narcolepsy but Parkinson’s is such a devastating illness to live with! So proud to be related to a legend x
@@rachaelkennedy2134 It's great to hear from you Rachael, you are justified in being proud of your uncle.
I'm sorry to learn you have been afflicted with something similar to Ray's condition as I also suffer from fatigue and a condition not unlike your sleep condition, so I feel your pain.
Might I ask a (hopefully) small favour regarding the date of Ray's transfer to Liverpool? As I mentioned, I no longer have his book, but I seem to remember Ray's transfer to Anfield occurring around the late autumn after he had played a major part in almost destroying Liverpool in a league game. But Wikipedia states the transfer was in July 1974, which is obviously during the summer, therefore I wonder if that date is correct.
I assume you have Ray's book so would you be kind enough to check the date for me. I look forward to hearing from you again.
My favourite ever Liverpool player.Brilliant.
Was a great player, one of the most decorated players in the game.
Remember getting his autograph outside the old Arsenal Stadium, went to his testimonial at Highbury.
He was magic !! Terry mcdermott came alive whenever ray had that ball, he'd look up, see mcdermott and land the ball on a sixpence for him, it was unbelievable. Souness kennedy mcdermott and case possibly the greatest midfield ever, 2nd only to the brazil 1982 midfield of eder zico socrates and junior !!
brilliant for the swansea city and still got number 5 shirt on his last game 100-percent jack
My uncle Ray, so proud ❤ thank you for this, some discrepancies but it’s nice to know he will always be remembered! 🙏🏼 Parkinson’s is an absolutely devastating illness to live with ! 🖤x
sat next to him in the doctors at Beaumont Pk. Was thrilled to see him but it was so sad.
It was Alan Kennedy who scored the winner against Real Madrid, Not Ray
And Souness instead of Sour ness
Ray was great player never to be forgotten Ray thanks for years of fantastic football Ray as up there with the best God Bless Ray Kennedy RIP Love Nige xx
Top player with a touch of quality.
Went to his testimonial at Highbury. Personal and health demons but one of the greatest English players.
Ray was a titan for Liverpool. YNWA 👌👌❤️❤️🙏🙏
Allan Kennedy scored in the 1981 EC, not Ray...
Ray and Radford were a brilliant duo.
Get your facts right regards 81 final
One of the Arsenal greatest forwards’
The LNE 1971 Belgium 69
When I was a kid supporting LFC in the seventies, he was my favourite player
Sad to find out that Ray had passed, What a player, the ultimate attacking midfielder, sadly had to endure Parkinson's in an early age, but hopefully at peace now, RIP Ray
First of all he never played a first team game for Port Vale and he joined Arsenal in 1968 not 1971.
Total winner, he never understood failure. ❤
I’m sorry but against Real Madrid it was Alan Kennedy not Ray get your facts straight
Seaton Delaval seemed to have changed quite a bit since when I lived in the NE
This is my Uncle Ray, my dad (rays youngest brother) still lives in Delaval & other family Cramlington or Durham x
gave joy to so many people, but in end . . .
He didn't score in the European Cup final in 81 that was Alan Kennedy. He scored in the semi final in Munich!
3 min 5 secs in... It was Alan Kennedy not Ray that scored against Real Madrid 1981.
it was hard to watch this - rip ray kennedy
It was Alan that score the winner in the 1981 European Cup final against Real Madrid. Come on man!
Greatest player ever for Liverpool
But i enjoyed immensely Ray's football
Utterly brilliant...ynwa
Thought it was Alan Kennedy who scored against Real Madrid not Ray kennedy😮
Your thoughts were spot on.
He also moved to Swansea
Heading those heavy balls didn't help. Poor lad..
Hopelessly inappropriate misplaced pics just disrespect this wonderful player. He deserves better than this horrible crap.
This pisses me off when you put things like this on and you really don’t know the history
Brilliant Player His Mind Forward Thinking Unbelievable Left Peg R.I.P.YNWA
More research was needed it was Alan Kennedy not Ray in 81
Super player however loads of disjointed pictures in the video
