Great player ,great showman , remember him playing like it was yesterday . Just wish he would do more as a pundit .I really miss him on the radio especially .
Alec Stock was the manager for QPR then.He had formidable selection of players with Marsh,Les Allen & Mark Lazarus to name but a few. They would talk openly to the supporters during the game.Wonderful days & wonderful entertaining football.
Looks like QPR got the best out of him, thank God. Without that push up the leagues in the late 60’s I dread to think where we’d be now. And that wining goal in the ‘67 cup final was magical 🙏
Remember him at QPR. He was a hero of the fans. When he left for Man. City , the fans were so enraged by his loss ,it was rumoured that the terraces would be burned to the ground in White City. It fortunately never happened. I had no idea what struggles and adversity he'd gone through before he even got there.
I remember Marsh reminiscing about a time when Sir Alf Ramsey instructed him on an England game and during the first half, Ramsey told Marsh he'd have to pull him off at half time. Marsh replied "wow, we usually only get an orange at half time". Ramsey wasn't amused, according to Marsh😅
Rodney Marsh and Ron Harris were in the same Hackney schools side in the 50's. They were never close and I think it was because Harris was jealous of Rod's ability. How do I know? I was also in the same team. In defense of Rod's father, he was always a spectator at the games his son played in.
Marsh was a talented player , although he slowed up a Manchester City that were top league when he arrived , but went on to lose the league title to Liverpool season 1971-72 .
Marsh was a skillful player, a maverick, an entertainer, but he wasn't a 'hard man' at all! I have no idea where you got that idea from? There were plenty of hard men in English football in that era, but Rodney Marsh was certainly not one of them!
Rodney was a ,legend in his own lunch time, looked great in the third division looked a fish out of water in the first with Man City and ruined that team, Allisons mate that's how he joined .Both of them cost City huge.
Couldn't agree more - fellow Blue-, Never rated him as class of any kind! When the Sky Sports Phone ins started, he thought of himself as a Galictico superstar, with his big head and on air antics. Big damp squib for me Reg. Phil 67.
Rodney marsh used to tour with George best, that's why Rodney marsh was skilful,he learnt it from George best,no other player were like these too,the best skilful players, even today George best was the best player in the world, even Pele said that.!
Rod did not learn it from the wonderful George .Long before they teamed up at Fulham, Rod was scoring and demonstrating his great talent at QPR,in particular, and Man City.
@Isleofskye rod toured round the country, with George he,s the only player I ever seem do same skills that George best did,no body else, so I think rod learnt from George.
He was a top player before he played alongside best at Fulham.. best is a legend but their best years were behind them in the mid 70s when they finally started playing together...
@@Isleofskye Might of lost something in translation. Apart from the fact, Rodney Marsh was a great footballer, a joy to watch. Pretty much the rest of the story is bullsh#t
Rodney didn’t need George best to teach him his skills he was a born natural
Yes that’s why he was in the third division with QPR

Rodney Marsh was a very skilful player for Queens Park Rangers for years and then was in the Fulham team with George Best.

What a player....Like all amazing sportsmen he seemed to have difficulty in using his brain
Marsh a good Shakespearian footballer "MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING"
I never knew about his childhood or deafness in one ear or the fact that in 1963 that he was told that he would never play again.
The deafness might explain why he rarely ever passed the ball to a teammate.🦁🦁

alistairn all the fault of Malcolm Allison for signing him with just a few games left.
Derby County won the title, look it up.
@@rogeredmunds5806 i for one never said that Derby County did not the title in 71/72.
On his day very few could touch him,I saw him score some amazing goals, but on a bad day he was bloody awful

Not the kind of mistake you want to make if you’re ever in Miss Side, Longsight or Cheetham Hill
Or even " Not the kind of mistake you want to make if you’re ever in Miss Side" or MOSS Side...lol
