Taylors are known for their bright, (jangly) sound, but this one finally has got good, rich mids, and I think lows too. I love the mids and lows, a rich sound on my Martin. I'm seriously thinking of this Taylor before it's too late. This model is limited.

I picked one up recently. It’s a stunning guitar, sonically and visually.
It’s also very comfortable to play. The body is wonderful and the neck is perfect straight out of the box.

Been rocking my 314 for 5 years until this guitar it was the nicest sounding Taylor I’ve played. But I can say for certain this redwood top is something on its own level absolutely amazing guitar

I'm looking at 2 Taylors, a 314ce and 50th Anniversary. Love both guitars, unfortunately. I've seen recent reviews of this one too, and it also sounds rich, unlike so many Taylors that are too bright. A tough decision between the two.

Thanks, Joe. I still use that 914ce from you with sinker redwood & East Indian Rosewood. Your sinker redwood story is confused with the mahogany version. Most of Taylor's sinker Rosewood comes from Za California river where logs would be floated down river to the mills. As the rivers dried on the fall, dams were built to keep logs a float. In spring runoff, the dam would be blown up to have the logs go back to the mill. Some logs would be blown into the silt bed. In the 1990s (?) river flow was low unearthing one of the logs onto a bridge where it was discovered, removed, and found many uses, including guitars. California regulated the excavation, so the source grew limited. You told that story on another video years ago. My guitar from you doesn't have all the Builders Edition improvements, but it sounds great. Thanks.

Sounds awesome. In terms of dynamics and balance, how would you compare the 314ce 50th to the 814ce 50th? I've listened to both videos, the 814ce comes off as "sweeter" but the 314ce sounded harmonically balanced as well.

I have owned a 716 ce for about 7 years, and it is a lovely instrument to play. It is also very well made, using some beautiful Lutz spruce and Indian rosewood. But here's the thing. It was quite an expensive guitar to buy and has not maintained its value. I did not expect it to grow in value over time, but I certainly didn't expect it to sink the way it has. When I see what can be had for far less money, brands like Yamaha, who use quality woods like sitka and rosewood, and mahogany, seem to offer far greater value for a product that may sound different but no less appealing.
While an instrument can attract you for its particular voice, I can not see the justification in an asking price measured in multiples over the cost of a less well-regarded or known brand. These high-end guitars simply don't give enough in terms of sound, construction, or materials used to make the sacrifice in depreciation worthwhile. If they were that good, they would not lose value the way that they do.

The sound is nice for what it is. The latter day 814's aren't known for the bass projection once Taylor went to V bracing. In this model the bass was there but the articulate nature of the mids was a little light. It could be the recording. I tried changing the EQ on my reference monitors and still couldn't find the presence. I have a 2017 814ceDLX-x and always wanted more articulation and finally figured out how to get it. I've struggled to like the Taylor V brace series guitars and there are only a few models that I would want to purchase, the 914ce for one.

Joe, does this 50th have the "improved " body shape of the 2023 814ce Builders Edition with Adirondack top?
