Not keen on an outdoor hot tub but then 8 live in Canada. If the tub were inside an insulated shed and the warm air leaving the air to water heat exchanger is used to warm the shed that would make it more comfortable for me.
I didn't see what pump you were using to move the water and I didn't see if the water circulation is in series, that is air to water heater exchanger followed by the EGR heater. Would it be better to have the water in parallel, the output from the pump is split between both heat exchangers?
Hi did you know that you can get those chinese diesel heaters that also heat water directly they have an additional water matrix that runs round the heater burn chamber
Thinking of getting a water heater diesel heater for this purpose, I already have an air version that heats the man cave, it’s in a box on the outside, ducting air in, although I get an off peak electric tariff this appeals
hi chris this video is brilliant, i dont own a house or a hot tub and likely never will but you got me hooked. very interesting.
If it makes you feel any better, i dont own this house lol but i do own the hottub

this is awsome
Thank you 😊
I used a tubular heater from a dishwasher , it worked to a degree but it consumed 2000w , so expensive.
i can chuck money or electric at it but that isnt really the point

i know but when i brought this they were about 2.5 x the price they have come down a bit now

it would be easier this way and the prices have gone down a lot
Can you make a more in dept video to show what pieces that you used exactly
I want to heat my hot tub with the heat from the exhaust
i will try to make a better video
Have you thought about using heat exchanger of your gas boiler
thanks for the tip i will look into it
I don’t think it will work due to very low flow.. even with a hot already at temp, that low flow of heated water won’t maintain the temp.
you are probably wright
Could you remkve the cpu cooler and place the heat exchanger in front of hot air flow so exhaust and air heat the same area at same tjme maybe
Put the EGR valve in the water to exchange the heat to the water.
You cant, hot exhaust travels through internal pipes in the EGR, the water is around those pipes, just like a steam train boiler.
How long does it take to heat up the hot tub from cold to 36 degrees from the diesel heater ?
with the setup i have at the min a long time
Hot water.. Then use a hydronic diesel heater...
i will look into that
Cool or should i say Hot : )
I hope so lol
