    Highschool is a paradox. Your going to teach adolescents how to be adults by treating them as adolescents. Also, as an added bonus, anyone who doesn't fit within the mould perfectly will be treated as an outcast and made to believe something is wrong with them, instead of allowing their creativity to blossom and actually learning about their natural interests.

      That's pretty much me--by design. I wasn't allowed to explore anything I wanted or taught to like anything. I ended up in dead-end job after dead-end job with nothing to show for my life. I'm really trying to make something of myself, but it's hard with no support.

      @GlobalDataConspirator that’s the thing with the American school system although it might seem like we have a lot of time on our hands, though true depending on which school you went to, but when it comes to teaching it sucks, they don’t really teach you anything useful and you are forced to take class you don’t like for the sake of a credit, and depending on which school you go to there are sometimes not a lot of options on which class you can take so a lot of the time you take class you don’t like or have no interest in just for a credit and long enough and it kills your motivation as well as make just want to earn a credit instead of actually finding what you want to do, of course I’m not saying this with all schools, this is just from my experience, my school doesn’t have much options in terms of classes so I just end up taking class to get a credit instead of taking class I want so I can pursue a career I want or find what I want, and I bet this is at a lot of schools as well, but not all, combined with the bullying problems(not at my school thank god, kids at my school don’t get bullied much)that happen at a lot of schools make things a real shit show when it comes to finding a career to do, not to mention that my school advocate college without any real direction they just want us to go to college without actual telling us what choices we have other than college, so I just end up getting demotivated and I do t know what do with my life since all I’ve been told is college and I know there are options but I don’t know what they are, and I really don’t wanna go to college since I don’t know what to do for a career and I know I’m just going to waste my money(since college is expensive as hell nowa days I do t wanna waste too much money)but my school don’t give me much of an option, of course this is with my school every school of different in their own way, but there is a pattern.

Their surroundings will change, they will go to college or get a trade job, get married, have a kid, etc. But mentally they are still in high school. They haven't grown as a person, no development or realizations. If they were shitty people in high school, they are shitty now (I'm 23 graduated hs in 2015).

      It was the only information that she'd forgotten.

Never heard anything after that but sounds right for that bar. Our 10 year would have been in 2020 so it was likely cancelled but also, our class leadership was the bottom of the barrel. His logic was that it was comfortable, warm (a feature not to be sniffed at when you live in Alberta, Canada) and still in pretty good shape. Basically a well made garment that his seamstress wife kept alive with a little basic maintenance. So long as he wasn’t wearing it to business meetings, have at ‘er!

      Lots of girls do this actually. When I was in high school all the girls loved the assholes, the smokers, leather jacket bullies, class distrupters that disrespect teachers and bad boys bla bla. These boys either ruin them, break their hearts, sexually assault them damage them we all know the story - then 10, 15 years later when they run into the nerds they rejected who now have great careers and are in great shape because we didn't drug and drink the past decade away - they want to "give us a chance". I'm on my executive team page of my company's web site and I've had at least 3 "cool girls" and a female *horrendous* bully contact me to see "how I'm doing", I look them up on social media and they're an total MESS I would go nowhere near. It's a very common pattern in my industry.

    The only things I remember in high school is studying, since I was in an advanced placement class. On top of that, I was pretty much a social outcast, just hiding from most people. And it worked, some people don’t even remember that I existed. I couldn’t fit in as the trauma from getting bullied in junior and middle school by both students and teachers.
    I found out that my past probably developed my body to increase my heartrate when talking to people, but I hide it pretty well to the point that its probably not that noticeable.
    Its pretty sad since, its not my true personality to have social anxiety. I used to be a really positive and outgoing kid, but the environment forced me to become more reserved.

    "Bestie sales pitch" hit me hard.
    I knew a guy named Nathaniel back went to elementary and middle school. He was a really tall, really quiet native kid that was actually really funny and nice. In highschool sophomore year he got his first girl who was obviously taking advantage of his kindness to control him, typical "My boyfriend" stuff.
    Fast forward to after graduation, I moved away and went to a different school after sophomore year and come to find out, he became a druggie somewhere along his life and was apparently struggling enough to either drive away or emotionally destroy the people close to him. Tragic, because Natives suffer addiction at higher rates than any other race. He contacted me with this "sales pitch", though he wasn't exactly selling anything it was obviously dishonest. He said some politician or whatever was holding $10,000 for me and for whatever reason contacted Nathaniel to get to me...I told him straight up I was suspicious and he reassured me, I told him I would look and get back to him on it...never did. And he never texted back either. Now his account no longer exists.

      Nothing about HS itself is all that great. I've been out for 20 years and couldn't name 5 actually interesting things that happened in HS with a gun to my head. The thing that makes those years good is that it's the last time you'll be without any real responsibilities. You'll also be almost smart enough to know how to fully enjoy that. Most of the fun is hanging out with friends outside of school and your parents starting to loosen your restrictions.
      That first year after HS, the real world hits you like a freight train and things can go to sh!t for a little bit while you sort out how to adult.
      Also - Don't skip school or get drunk. Most of the time it turns out alright. But, periodically, both behaviors can kick up all kinds of crazy problems. I've seen both result in failed years, expulsions, and, in one case, actual prison time.

    I graduated almost a decade ago (I skipped a few grades), and I cringe every time I open Facebook (because most of my ex-classmates cannot use any other kind of social media), and it's the same 5-7 former popular girls always doing things together, shopping together, dining together, taking their kids to school in groups... I mean, good for them, but it's like they never made any more friends after high school, and they are 27-28 years old now. I haven't really talked to anyone from my HS after graduation, just a couple I have run into in the town I live in now.

    I find that in my school specifically, I'm glad there isn't really a social hierarchy. It may be because of covid , but idk maybe times have changed.

    My life has gotten MUCH better after high school. I was extremely underweight, weak, shy, depressed, had no money and my shoes had holes in them. Now, I lift weights, make alot of money investing, traveling the world, and I know what I want in life. Always work on yourself and struggle is temporary.

    I only went to one school reunion - back in the day when Friends Reunited was a thing.
    Had nothing in common with the others, any more than I'd had anything in common with them at school except we were in the same year - and that had been about 20 years previously. Not the most fun night of my life.

    A woman in my friend group, for a few yrs, bragged about being the leader of the mean girl / bullies in the high school she went to, said she enjoyed the power. She was 40ish at the time. The bragging said a LOT about her. My first thought was 'If I had done that shit in HS I would be embarrassed about it now' second thought was 'if she is proud of that it says she 1- hasn't developed as an adult since HS + probably continues to do it now'. Well I was right about both. She would make snide remarks to me under her breath, loud enough for others to hear but I could only hear a bit, so I would keep asking her over + over what she said, until sometimes she would blow up at me + run out of the place we were. So I distanced myself from her, as it turns out most of her other friends have dropped her after a while as she started picking on one of them, then another. They got together + dumped her on mass, telling her what they thought of her. I know this as I live in the same building as her + some of the others + bump into her in the elevator from time to time.

    I was not popular in HS. Never had a HS sweetheart, didn't get invited to prom or was turned down, played sports but was not a star (though I did get a scholarship to a small college, didn't attend), never got invited to parties, and was picked on. left HS behind me and found life was better without it! I joined the military and left that Monday after Friday's graduation. I traveled the world, got married, had kids, graduated college with a Master's in Psyciatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner! Nowadays most of my classmates and others want to talk to me, travel when I go to college or NFL games, wasnt to be friends on my FB page (only use it for friends, family, and old military buddies), and now some of the women are trying to hit on me in my DM's..lol! Don't let HS mold you, mold yourself!

    From my observation people who peaked in high school normally never evolve at least aesthetically. Same hair style, clothing, lingo, humour. Wait, what I actually mean to say is that they'll remain in whatever stage of life they felt the most successful and happy. Kind of why you see older people that still dress the same from their youth.

    what does it mean to "peak" in high school?? like, is it peeking socially as in prom king/queen/popular? or peaked as in academically and becoming famous?

    • @demiworld1011
      @demiworld1011 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      “Peaking in high school” means that you can not get over the memories of your high school years way beyond the high school days being over. For example, graduating in the 90’s and still wearing your varsity jacket and talking about high school in 2021.

    • @troystaunton254
      @troystaunton254 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Peaking in high school means your biggest achievements are in high school. Like I’m proud of my sporting achievements from school. But I don’t bring it up, some times my parents do or people I know do. But my achievements are saving up and going on months long holidays to Europe and seeing all the battlefields. Overcoming (barely) having my bowel removed and having a colostomy bag which is thankfully now gone. None of the stuff I did in high school is relevant to my life at all.

If it's not scans of old pics of him snd his friends or the HS and MS yearbooks, it's "hey, what ever happened to (classmate)?" or an ad or logo from some old tv show, movie, discontinued product or defunct business with the caption "who remembers this?"

    I was heavily bullied in HS. I thought I'd never forget it. I'd think about it day and night. It took 5 years for me to forget all the nasty things they did for me out of nothing but finally I can say I'm over it. I don't know if it is because I matured or if it is because worse things happened since then lol. But I'm finally doing good. The sad part is, it took too long for me to gain control over my life. I wish it were like those stories when the bullied kid gets successfull right after HS and all that fantasy, specially because I was so nerdy. Unfortunally it hasnt like that...but I'm glad I'm still here and kicking.

    12:43 To be fair, where I grew up and went to school there were a lot of private-owned pubs arounds and only one chain pub, our Wetherspoons (UK), and it was the cheapest place, so everyone of every age drinks there or at the bar next door when it's open (which isn't often). So the patrons and the workers of 'Spoons are all students/former students. But other than sharing stories about rumours and shit, no one gives much of a crap about secondary school in the UK. Not once they've left it.
