Just to clarify some fan terminology: angle of attack refers to the angle between the incoming air and the mean camber line (imaginary line from lead edge to trailing edge), the curvature of the blade is referred to as the camber, chord length is the length of the blade cross-section from leading edge to trailing edge in a straight line, and pitch is the overall angle of the blade relative to rotation. When you refer to the angle of attack changing due to the deeper fan, it really is the chord length and pitch that are changing and not the angle of attack. Sorry for the rant, but as an aerospace engineer, just thought I would clarify. Love the videos! You are one of my favorite tech TH-camrs.

I really want Lian-Li to release a reverse flow fan. If you want a good fan layout in their own case, you'll be seeing a lot of the backs of fans. This alone has me considering Phanteks or Thermaltake, even though I prefer the look of the unifan.

I've always liked Lian-Li products. All the way back to my first full custom build in 2002 with the brushed aluminum case. I think I still have it sitting in storage somewhere with a dual core Athlon sitting in it.
Also, airflow restriction on a fan actually decreases the workload and fan RPM increases to keep the amp draw roughly the same. For example you'll notice this when using a vacuum cleaner and you block the hose. Airflow throughput = work.
However, since these are smarter PWM controlled fans, they probably have some combination of Static Pressure and sound control based on RPM & Amps and that's why they slowed down.

    • @robertbass9032
      @robertbass9032 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct.
I suspect those fans will move 92.0 CFM flow at Zero mm H20 pressure.

All the CFM in this video reminded me of a video you did a while back saying we still use CFM everywhere even in metric countries. In metric countries (that's everywhere outside of the US by the way lol) they use m3 per min, but CFM is popular in the same way that display sizes are still advertised in inches pretty much everywhere too.
I also enjoyed the seamless mixture of units of measure being used with the CFM and mmH2O lol.

I disagree I think it's Thermaltake especially with their swafans that let you swap the fan blade direction so you don't have to worry about how you position your fans. Also the Lian Li connectors are just NZXTs design but much improved. Also Thermaltake has fans that just interconnect as well and they came out around the same time as Lian Li. 14:25 The radiator is also empty, acting as a resonance box. But yes, fans will be more whinny as they get close to objects, it is a "vacuum" effect (not enough air entering) and that's why they spin faster too when they get fully choked (less wind drag).

Just today placed my order for a mix of Infinity and AL V2s to replace the Silent Wings 4 Pros that I'd bought for my new build. If I'd seen this video a couple hours ago I might have pre-ordered these instead.
For those curious, the Silent Wing 4 Pros are built incredibly well. However, they're noisy AF at top speed, and when you bump them down to a middle or low speeds, then they're not really anything special.
Also after having a build for the last 7 years with no RGB and no particular flair (Cooler Master Cosmos II) RGB, it turns out, is important to me.
I don't game much and use an AIO for CPU cooling, so general case air flow isn't super important. I have Noctua 12x25s on my 360 rad up top where nobody will see them anyway, so I can afford to put form over function for the more visible case fans.

I love my Lian Li Uni Infinity fans! Replaced my Corsair fans with them and haven't looked back. They look amazing in the case, lighting is clean, they perform very well and the minimalist cable management is truly priceless to me. As an example, I have a Lian Li O11D Evo with 10 Infinity fans. I basically replaced the 10 Corsair fans that had 20 individual cables (2 per fan) and the two controllers they were connected to, down to only 4 total cables (4 groups with one cable per group) and one controller. Cable management was a breeze. So I have nothing but good things to say about their fan solutions. These new fans are no exception. A performance fan that appeals to both the non-RGB crowd, as well as giving an option for those that want the performance with RGB. All while staying in the Lian Li eco system. Good stuff. Now, if only Lian Li would start making reverse airflow versions and/or fans you could manually swap the direction of the blades, that would be great. It would clean up seeing the backs of fans in the case.

I wonder if Jay would ever consider reviewing the Noctua iPPC fans?
Now, uncharacteristically for Noctua, these aren't quiet fans.
But that's not the point, they were engineered for performance above all else.
They are basically your standard Noctua fan, with a 3 phase motor and it goes up to either 2000 or 3000 RPM.
As far as I am aware, they offer them in 120 and 140mm sizes, I have not seen other sizes but they may in fact exist if you visit Noctua's site instead of just browsing Amazon like I did.
But you DID hear me right, it's a Noctua quality fan, that is closer to a Delta fan (found in servers in data centers) as far as what it's designed for (and in noise level too).
Yes, they're meant for industrial applications, and they SAY that "consumers won't like them" probably.
But they're available on Amazon, so "just anyone" can buy them!
I'm honestly curious if swapping one or two of these into a Noctua dual-tower heat pipe CPU air cooler would make it perform any better.
Like, can it keep an overclocked 13900k cool? Maybe not, but we'll never know until we try!
Also, putting these on the radiators of what Jay would consider to be a "difficult" cooling application might be an interesting thing to see (maybe a system with a water cooled 4090 and a 13900k).
And then there's the elephant in the room, the 13900ks. It's gotten a reputation of being "impossible to cool", but I think that's mostly due to that Linus video.
I don't think that it's impossible to cool. I think that they either didn't have the time to or weren't allowed to go far enough to prove that you can in fact tame that beast of a heat load.
Plus, as ANYONE who watches LTT should know, LTT is more interested in making a meme than actually proving something is possible or not.
So they went and made a "Lol haha this chip is too hot" meme, and everyone ate it up as if it was factual data.
What do I mean by "they didn't go far enough"?
I'm glad you asked. They didn't de-lid the processor, and they also didn't try water cooling it with just a water block hooked up to a pump drawing water from a cooler full of water and ice (not even a radiator in that situation, relying only on the ice itself to keep the thing cold).
That's still phase change cooling, by the way, and that's also how they do the cooling for dragsters and land speed record vehicles.
Now, obviously, that's not "normal operation".
But that's also not a "normal" CPU either.
    The 13900ks isn't a truck. It's a dragster.
So using a radiator is incorrect.
By "it's a dragster, not a truck", I mean that it's not meant for mundane workloads, it's meant to complete specific workloads in the shortest possible time.
Additionally, thermal considerations are only limits if you ALSO have financial or time constraints.
As with most things that don't blatantly defy the laws of physics, it's only impossible if you have a financial or time constraint on it.
Sans those constraints, literally anything that follows the laws of physics as we know them is possible.
A good engineer relishes a challenge that doesn't have a bottom line to adhere to, because it means the challenge is "how good can you make it" not "can you make it with only this much money".
You'll also note that I didn't take the "easy way out" and suggest LN2 cooling for the 13900ks. I'm not interested in "run for a minute or 10 and then post the benchmark". I'm interested in "tame the beast, in a way that is easily and inexpensively repeatable".
As in, you can take this to the "drag race track" on weekends, rather than having to take it to NASA to get it benchmarked.

Just a note, the added noise from the rad is louder cuz it's empty and acting like a resonance chamber amplifying the sound. Test it full

I love the idea of having a choice - RGB or no RGB in quality fans.
However, I think their RGB add-on kit should include lighting for both sides of the fan. The one sided approach makes the fan look unbalanced.

Can I control the light colors without the hub? I also have Armory Crate as well as AORUS.
For me that was a deal breaker with the earlier models.
MicroCenter had these selling used for $10 per fan and it stopped me because of requirement for a hub.

Hey j try adding spacers between the fan and radiator like u showed when the fan is too close its less effective so the screws that go throu the fan into the radiator add a quarter inch spacers u will see it will make it work better and cooler!!

Jay completely missed telling that the blades are now made up of LCP (same as T30 and NF-A12x25). That's why the CFM and static pressure are so high. These also have high end bearings and come with 6 year warranty.

I went from Corsair QL Fans to UNI SL Fans. I still think QL’s look better, but hate the wires.
I will be swapping to the new Corsair QX Fans
    I have 16 Total Fans:
Top: 6 120mm UNI fans with Radiator doing Push/Pull.
Side: 3 120mm UNI Fans & 3 Black Fans doing a Double Exhaust
    Bottom: 3 140mm UNI Fans
    Rear: 1 120mm UNI Fan

I like that a person can set their own spd on the fans as I don't really care for auto mode. Auto normally doesn't kick in until things get hot and then ramps up way too high. I hate that up/down ramping. I think I'd opt for med just to be on the safe side under normal PC use and high when gaming. I usually wouldn't pay attention to extra noise then especially if I'm wearing a headset. This offers a smooth transition without the ramp and IMO, keeps your PC much cooler.

i actually currently have a triplet of those int he bottom of my case, and considering i run a positive pressure case setup (mostly because i have a 360mm radiator in the top of the case) id have to say... i definitely think that those 3 fans alone are the best fans ive put in my case, i have 4 corsair HAF 120 elites in my case (one exhaust in the rear, 3 intake) and those cant shake a stick at the sheer performance difference, the p28s are in a different league entirely

i have 2 rads, 480mm each, and i decided to put push pull fans on them, so 16 fans total, usually i dont run them very high rpms but when my system updates they go full tilt and it sounds like a WW2 airplane doing a dive haha.

I remember a few years ago having 6 scythe jumani fans in my pc case that were inti-outi for a total of nearly 340 cfm - it sounded like a frikin jet taking off but kept the pc really cool. also it was in an enclosure so very quiet.

  • @DCMcF
    @DCMcF ปีที่แล้ว

a long necessary concept of quick connect. I do like the fans that are connected at the radius edge also more stable at higher rpm. It's actually used with some vehicle radiator manufacturers, even though a vehicles cooling system works with a vectoring push and pull method... In theory of certain setups, it may be beneficial pulling air when in the long run its easier to clean when a radiators fins are similar to a filter effect, and whether a fans existing bearing subtype. Thus dust, heat & oxidation in electronics is inevitable of its degradation.

  • @TimLongson

Have you tried a "Toroidal propeller" shaped fan? Both MIT Lincoln Laboratory and Sharrow Marine came up with the design at the same time; its much more efficient and quieter than other designs, but as its new and was developed for boats and drones, I bet no-one has used it on a PC case fan yet, so maybe suggest it to fan manufacturers? Quieter, more powerful and more efficient for the same amount of energy because vortices generated by the fan are spread across the whole shape instead of just the tips of the fan.

  •  ปีที่แล้ว

jumping in here for a maybe silly request. could you make a water cooling reference playlist? "1 all about fittings,2 how to bend PVC, 3 hard tubing type, 4 how to flush," something like that ? I'm building for the first time in 4 years , and I'm scouring through your videos to find about fittings, quick disconnect, how to flush , currently I'm stuck on taking apart the EK-XRES 140 D5 pump for cleaning. I still don't actually know if it's disassembleable.

its about time a company made an innovation in fan design... first they revolutionized the computer case with the "lian li pc-011 dynamic evo", then they revolutionized computer fans with a streamlined daisy chain feature, now they are revolutionizing the computer case fans again! obviously a thicker fan is nothing new but these stats are unparalleled! 92 cfm, 4.7 static pressure, all with a 32 dba? no fucking way. that beats my "corsair red led ml 120 mag lev fans" in every category... i think they have like a 75 cfm, 4.2 static pressure, and a dba of like 36. they took that fan and made it better in every way. they did not even need the full 30mm thickness! super impressive to say the least! i do not think another company will be able to beat these stats for a hot minute! Lian Li is a true gem of a computer part company! they are truly not just accepting the bare minimum and they literally have the most qualified and competent engineers in the computer part industry! i want them to get into the CPU AIR COOLER MARKET! i bet they can cook up another amazing product that changes everything! if there was one company that i believe could innovate the CPU AIR COOLER MARKET its LIAN LI! im starting to think that they are the only company that can do it... i bet LIAN LI could be the first computer company to make a break through in CPU air coolers since noctua! even though they will probably never enter that space... one can only hope and dream.

These kind of inline or even hub-based LNA are just unnecessary ewaste on a PWM fan plugged into a PWM header. Since all 3 settings have the same minimum, you can get the same results (yes, with different granularity) without any of this complication just setting different fan curve in bios or software… how many ppl would prefer to open their case to switch/ change this? 🤔
That part is a gimmick, but otherwise these look great and love the optional rgb 👍

I agree. For a watercooled rig with a low fin density and a lot of cooling capacity it would probably be ok to leave them at low and never touch the controller again.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks armory crate and aura sync are garbage. I have the same issue trying to use it. Thank goodness iCue can control most of it and I don't have to use it any longer. Asus should just put an iCue header on their boards and take armory crate behind the wood shed. Additionally, if corsair would clean up the rat's nest of control wires we'd be golden. I see the teaser ad spots. I hope that means it is happening soon or I would switch to Lian Li fans right now.

I have the original UNI fans and I'm mostly very happy with them. I had to buy some of those adapters so that I could just plug them into my motherboard. I have 13 of them (long story) and only one of them is not working in optimal condition which I appreciate. I'd have preferred 13 for 13 but that's not the worst success rate.

Is this a sponsored review ? It would be nice to see how they compare against other fans in real scenarios . Kudos for Noctua for focusing on what really matters (noise and efficiency) the idea of stacking fans reducing needed cables is really great though. I wish they come up with universal fan headers interface that support rgb signal as well. That will reduce the amount of cables and get rid of RGB headers.
