    Thank you Avi Loeb for doing what you are doing, speaking out and putting up with the negative reactions. It is important for humanity to find out, if there is something exceptional going on. We can only win studying the phenomenon. No matter what causes it, we will learn something new, which is super-exciting.

    • @bettina4374

      It’s irrational to oppose a colleague scientist for researching a phenomenon. I wish people would focus on what they do, instead of criticizing others. They must be limited in their imagination and jealous of the determination, courage and ideas of others.

    I didn't get or see the name of the interviewer but you are amazing. I got my minor in philosophy and it was nice to hear someone talk and ask questions in a way that sounds like a professional philosopher. I'm guessing that you at least have a BA in philosophy but I could be wrong. It just sounded that way to me with the kinds of questions and whatnot. I love how you used that knowledge to communicate with him in a way outside of a pure layman or as a scientist. Great job on the interview

    Modern scientists who specialized into these fields are worried their degrees, their stature would become irrelevant, and would lose their stature among other academic leaders. Our group has found artifacts that defy origins of our nation, early trade, and we have been bullied by those people to keep our findings private.

    It would be really interesting to see how humanity would adapt to discovering not just one species but many species And learning who’s good, who is aggressive/regressive, and who is neutral. 1:54:34 And not being naïve but also not being overly aggressive/paranoid to every species we meet and so we do not eliminate Becoming friends with them because of that.

    Fundamentalne myśli i wartości w poszukiwaniu sensu życia we wszechświecie i na ziemi w ostatniej fazie filmu, mógłby się z tym zapoznać Bill Brama, może świat byłby lepszy i bezpieczniejszy. Ludzie obawiają się asteroid, armagedonu, gdy tymczasem sami dla siebie jesteśmy zagrożeniem. Avi Loeb bardzo pięknie przypomina o skromności w życiu i roli nauki, o wolności myślenia, której tak teraz brakuje.

    Logically (cartesian realism), if one dare suppose an object (Oumuamua) was sent to check on the Earth, or on its population, or where exactly is that civilisation at, then one has to imply a certain context for that to be happening within a logical continuum. In that case, it had to have been planned (designed in advance), and that brings up many more questions than answers (looking back at earthlings history).

    • @DataJYdocs
      @DataJYdocs 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @STORM - Next Generation Storm Chasing Simulator (as per continuum) One could invoke The Mayan Calendar ending abruptly (Dec21, 2012) whereas that type of 'calendar' works indefinitely.

  • @LostAnFound
    @LostAnFound 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I imagine it’s in his book, but I haven’t heard anyone mention the fact that Omuamua’s trajectory appeared to be ideal for an object arriving from north of our solar system’s plane.

    Avi’s the man. But it wasn’t only scientists who were rejecting Galileo’s evidence; like today, it was many of his scientist colleagues; if it were just philosophers, their naivety and narrow-mind would have been more understandable; but the fact that so many scientists ridiculed and dismissed him make it a more despicable and cannibalistic matter.

    Avi sounds like a great scientist but poor to average utilitarian. Here are my reasons:
    1) He is obviously dedicated to truth seeking and empiricism in an admirable and intellectually honest way.
    2) He obviously does *not* consider the *risk/benefit of truth seeking* compared to other endeavors. Of course, this might work out ok because how zero-sum this is, is also certainly up for debate. But I like to think that it is better to be aware of this.
    3) e.g. His dismissal of a critiscism of gravitational waves. I personally agree with the critic that this discovery is "unimportant" - because the *experimental confirmation* of gravitational waves is essentially valueless to society in terms of utility, and could have been predicted that way. However, he justifies it as "important" because it became "the hottest frontier in astrophysics" and had a "nobel prize awarded". I don't hold that those things have intrinsic value, and an argument needs to be made that the discovery has either improved people's lives, or plausibly will compared to other uses for the investment of both money and smart people.
    4) I hold this argument applies to all fundamental physics, most of astrophysics, and a significant amount of astronomy. Luckily they for the most part share the same tools (JWST seems valuable to me, because it has so many uses). LIGO is a good example of a specialised tool that did nothing, and will probably not do anything, to improve the lives of everyday people in the near future, and *maybe* forever.
    Also:
    A) I really agree with his outlook that there are highly unstudied areas for no good reason! eg. cameras to confirm UFO sightings, moon archeology, watching for more oumuamuas all seem like great ideas because seem like they are very unknown with potentially large upside relative to their cost.
    B) I would like to clarify that the majority position (among general public and the scientists that Avi criticises) on "UFOs aren't alien" and "Oumuamua isn't alien" should probably be interpreted as "our prior is that the probability of the class of hypotheses "oumuamua is natural" has significantly more probability than the class of hypotheses "oumuamua is artificial". I think there are a lot more ways & probability that oumuamua could be an undiscovered kind of natural object, than there ways & probability it could be an artificial object. On the other hand, unlike most general public and even scientists, Avi and I are comfortable using probabilities. It's a very confusing object! A 1% or even 0.1% chance that it's artificial seems pretty fucking important!

    • @oneshot2028
      @oneshot2028 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      See 1:25:49. You can't show that ANY scientific experiment will be 'valueless'. GPS needed general relativity to make it work. This happened decades after the many experiments which proved GR to be true, which according to YOU were valueless at THAT TIME. So unless you can give a PROOF that gravitational wave detection experiments are 'valueless' your entire argument is defective.

  • @caiuscosades2830
    @caiuscosades2830 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you're willing to accept it being artificial, then the acceleration needn't be due to radiation pressure from the sun, but could be some kind of onboard propulsion. I suppose this is less likely though as the vast majority of artificial objects are probably inert junk.

    • @NagashiChidorii
      @NagashiChidorii 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you apparently didnt understand or listen to the full explanation. Something artificial does not need propulsion to move through space at the speed that Oumuamua was moving at nor does it mean there needs to be anything active or running. It simply could just be technological junk from another civilization.

  • @johnjon1823
    @johnjon1823 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wish more would pay attention to the probabilities. He delineates well, the unusual likelihood of a list of items each at 1%, the combined probability that such a thing would exist by mere accident is very low, as he says basically trillions to one.
    Would that such observations relative the origin of the pandemic virus were applied to our terrestrial virus origin dilemma. I think the origin of that is much easier to calculate and ascertain with quite high probabilities. Yet like this object in space, it does NOT fit the current narrative, it violates the zeitgeist. We see this closed minded attitude all over the place today and it is fostered by leftist religionists who on the one hand may be scientific religionists and on the other are woke religionists. Basically all ideologies today are in fact a religion or cult of some kind, and they have the audacity to proclaim any religion based in Deism as mere fiction, while it is they who live their own quite actual fiction. They do this by sifting information that fits their beliefs and disregarding other evidence by not bothering to observe it, as he mentioned about grass growing.
