    Acids are an older gal's best friend. When people ask me why I have very few lines I say "sunblock and tretinoin." It's surprising how many women still don't know about retin-a.

    I use the Ordinary's Peeling Solution once a week and I love it. Once a week is enough for me to keep my skin looking good and it's like getting brand new skin. In fact, most of my skin care is on your recommendations, Angie. Thank you!

    Hi Angie - SORRY for the long text! 😮 Just wanted to say that you ALWAYS look amazing but in this video you look extra amazing. Also, love the hair today - the color, cut, length and flatter style are especially flattering and youthful, to my eye anyway. You’re seriously the “youngest” looking in this video that I think I’ve ever seen you look. Which is only important NOT from a value-as-a-human-being, sexist “women have to look young and pretty or else” perspective but from a professional one in that you’re the actual living, practicing proof of what you teach on your channel. Can’t thank you enough for your learning what you have and practicing it EVERY DAY and teaching by example and this channel. With today’s health science, skincare, and makeup technology, yes we CAN reverse age our skin and bodies (and WITHOUT a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, staff, and bank acccount) and this is how. Pure and simple. (Well, maybe not quite “simple” 😁 but it would be SO much harder, heck almost impossible, without you). So Super helpful.
    Also, looks are only so important but on the other hand there are so many valuable practical, confidence and self care (even career) reasons why maintaining, and improving once’s looks ARE important - for men AND women but anyone with half a brain knows that women have it a lot harder than the men to figure out how and then actually practice, maintain and improve / aka keep on top of.
    I’m so glad you’ve made this channel and do this real, serious, important, and yes, HARD work. You’re the only beauty vlogger worth my paying attention to (except I do watch Wayne Goss occasionally - for even MORE makeup product news and techniques in general - but even his channel is very secondary for me compared to yours).
    Your videos save the rest of us a TON of time and money in trying to figure out what the heck to actually BUY and use in a very confusing marketplace of millions of options, products and “information”. NONE of this “stuff” is simple to understand much less know how to use for the results we want. But YOU make it simple for US. Lots of love and a million thanks for all you do. 😁❤️💕
    Also, re: your video updating us with your divorce: have thought of you often regarding that. Congratulations for being a responsible adult and doing what you know was right / the best for you. Wishing you all the best in thriving and living the life you need and want. I often think of your words and remember to aim in my own life for those feelings of “lightness and hope” that we all need. 🙂

    The one good thing about lockdown during this whole covid thing. I was binge watching your videos. You’re so knowledgeable. I learned so much. Not just about skin care but makeup application. All the different products. Now I wonder if it’s Tuesday or Friday. Can you do a video on the different bronzers. Think I may have seen one. I’ll have to check again. Or what I really need is understanding finding the right foundation color. What my undertone is. I’ve read a lot about it. But if you could show us visually that would be helpful!!!

    • @barbarafairbanks4578
      @barbarafairbanks4578 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know...Binge watching Angie...I thought I was the only one 😆 my friends are binge watching Netflix, and I'm watching Hot & Flashy😂 needless to say, I am lightyears ahead in fashion & beauty for our age group! About finding whether you are cool, neutral or warm undertoned. Look at the vein color on your wrist/inside arm. If your veins have a greenish hue, that's 'warm', believe it or not. Purple hued veins are 'cool', and blue toned veins are neutral....something I've learned from Angie, and I do take notes! About the self-tanning video...yes there is one. You can go to Angie's Hot & Flashy website and probably find it there. I just watched it yesterday...very informative. Didn't take notes bc I figure I'll wait till my skin is better primed, roned, and exfoliated before I attempt self-tanning. I just started using Curology, (learned about it from Angie, of course), after years of using Paula's Choice 1% Retinol, thinking I was using a
      Retin-A product....der! ...I am actually kicking myself for not paying close attention to the difference BTW an OTC retinol product and the real deal, i.e., tretinoin. I'm spending much leas on Curology's tretinoin personalized formula than I was spending on Paula Choice OTC retinol. Good luck with your skincare/make-up goals - you've come to the right place - Angie is the best, IMO 🤗

    I've bought Curology around the time you started recommending it. My skin was starting to get dull and was not as smooth as it used to be. I love the difference it makes. My dermatologist encouraged me to continue your using tretinoin in some form if not cureology, because she has noticed a difference in her patient's skin thickness that have used it for years versus ones that have not. She said the ones that have used it for years don't have thin crepey skin. They have nice firm supple skin even up into their seventies and eighties.

    Long time vitamin c user here (as well as began using tretinoin 30 years ago but stopped about 5 years ago), in my early 60s with very good skin (genes and good skincare). I have tried them all, but recently gave a vitamin c ester a try, because I felt I was in an ascorbic acid "slump". Well, tetrahexyldecyl (a C ester) really got things moving again, melasma seemed to fade in a few short weeks! Also, I found a retinaldehyde to begin acclimating my skin to start using tretinoin again and wow, I am amazed! Retinols, far more prevalent in cosmeceuticals, don't hold a candle to retinals (with an A), with the latter only requiring one step to convert as opposed to two steps for the former. Between the two - vitamin C ester and retinaldehyde - my skin is looking better than it has in ages! Soon enough (a few months) I'll probably be able to get back to good old tretinoin as well! So if anyone else is in an ascorbic acid slump, try a c ester - tetrahexyldecyl seems to be doing wonders for me. And if tretinoin is too strong or irritating to you, find a product containing retinal (retinaldehyde) and use it, like me you might be amazed!

    I am 55 and follow both your day and night skin care routine but I don't think my neck and face are as sensitive as yours tends to be. I know it doesn't work for you, but if you were able to work a glycolic acid leave-on serum into your routine - where would you insert it...day or night, between which products and how often?

    I am 41 (in the UK) and I have prescription only strength azelaic acid on prescription from my GP for acne and rosacea. It is literally the ONLY thing I've seen that can visibly reduce the size of spots in a few hours AND for rosacea, you can actually see a line if you don't blend it out, where your skin looks normal vs the red of your rosacea. Its magic. I alternate between 20% cream and 15% gel xXx 👍😎💜💜💜💜

    If you are in Canada you cannot buy an azaleic acid product as it is considered a "schedule" medication, meaning it requires a prescription. So even companies like The Ordinary, which is based in Canada, cannot sell their azaleic acid in Canada. You may be able to find it as part of certain products (assuming Health Canada hasn't flagged them), but not as a stand alone product. Also, anyone interested in tretinoin should ask their GP or dermatologist about a prescription as you can get a .025% for around $4.00 a tube (if you have coverage), which is much cheaper and convenient than going through Curology. You might also ask a dermatologist about a prescription that allows you to incorporate azaleic acid, which may also be cheaper. A compounding pharmacy could probably create a "custom" blend cream if you obtain a prescription. If you have specific skin concerns I think it is wiser to consult in person with a doctor as opposed to trusting an online questionnaire.

    Good morning ☀️
    Great video. Just a thought from a master esthetician of over thirty years. I’m 54. As I have said before I don’t do anything invasive to my skin and I don’t wear foundation or concealer. So just another kind opinion.
    We see clients come in with redness and peeling around their nose or chin and each time the client is wearing foundation. The moment we take them off of foundation the redness begins to go away. I believe e it’s fungus. I have said this before, we believe foundation is the number one cause of acne and aging besides the sun. We have natural bacteria and fungus always on our skin and it’s when we activate it that we have an issue. Just a thought for those of you that feel you must cover up your skin.
    Also please be mindful of The Ordinary, it’s a one bottle one SYNTHETIC ingredient product and we are seeing so many issue on new clients coming in for help. You almost have to be a chemist to use it and the fact it isn’t natural is not good for anyone’s skin. You get what you pay for.
    Products you use on your skin are so important and so many skin care companies do not give their full list of ingredients or are not even owned by the original founders anymore, but my companies that don’t manufacture it as the founders had started. I know it’s hard to believe but it’s a real issue.
    Angie your a lovely lady and I love your getting so many people to want to be their best. Hope you don’t mind my comments and I hope you know they are always said with respect and hopefully just another added benefit to everyone out there.

It's amazing, IF they are sure to send me exactly only what I requested: Same Treatment, but without the two other products! The cleanser is SO strong, gave me fever blisters all over. And the moisturizer is VERY Heavy!!!!!! Don't need. And I can't use my Vit C, when using treatment every night! I'm sure I need to work up to this. Thank you for telling me what you did!!! I hope to be a solid long time member. The price IS great, for Now. Danna

    The problem of melasma was mentioned at one point in the video. It is really something that can ruin the complexion and in my opinion hardly possible to get rid of completely. A seperate segment for skincare fighting with melasma would be awesome. I use high quality sunscreens and Timeless Vit. C but it seems like an uphill battle most of the time.

    I’ve been using 0.1 Tretinoin for years and found it becomes ineffective with long term use. My dermatologist added Tazarotene 0.1 % to my skin care regimen and it has made all the difference.. My skin is resilient. I use both products at night with no peeling, dryness, etc. I have excessively oily skin and take spirolactone to help with that. I also have adult hormonal acne and take doxycycline for that. I tried the Curology when Angie started it, but found even with the highest dose of clindamycin, it broke me out horrible.

    I have finally hit on the fact that glycolic acid really keeps my skin at it's best. I ran out over quarantine and I had NEW hyperpigmentation crop up in that time. 😩 So horrifying. So ran out and got the quickest glycolic acid serum I could find and went up to spf 70 Australian Gold. Slowly improving. This in addition to tretinoin and a vitamin c nighttime mask on occasion. AHA and lactic acid, nothing. Retinol has caused breakouts which I do not have with Tretinoin. I'm still oily at age 57. I do think my acid mantle has been a big issues for me overall.

I have noticed improvement in my skin...yay...so will keep on doing these things. Hubs did laugh when he saw all the potions and lotions lined up...but even he sees the improvement in my skin. Enjoy your videos, Angie!

    I have been using Curology since you recommended it 2 years ago. The funny thing is when I asked for .012 they said they don't have that percentage only 0.09 then 0.14. I told them about your percentage and they said oh that's a special mixture. Didn't understand that at all. I wasn't comfortable going to that big of a jump so I'm still at 0.09. I've also used Timeless for years but now I'm going to try to DIY. It's inexpensive to make and you can use it very liberally all over so I don't think I will miss the +E + Ferulic Acid, but I maybe wrong, we will see. I also just made H.A. So far so good.

    I've gotten brown freckles on my face & body (not even going out in the sun & also with using sunscreens) from the retinoids, so I've switched to trying the acids, but a little confused about them and I know when I get confused about skincare treatments I can always come to your channel. Thanks Angie this was very informative. The freckles did go away after I stopped using any of the retinols.

      sue, ugh. I have skin tags and keratoses and I feel your pain. My dermatologist lovingly told me that it’s due to age. I’m 62 and wanted to both scream and laugh when she said that. 😱. Angie has a great body lotion so maybe she will let you know. It’s in one of her recent videos. Sorry. I only remember that it starts with “A.” I just looked it up. It’s Alpha Skin Care Renewal body lotion with 12% glycolic acid. I believe it’s in Angie’s Amazon shop under the heading “body skin care.” Just click on her link and it will link you to it on Amazon. I’m about to order it myself. Fingers crossed!

Here is one HA suggestion...Sometimes I wake up with a dehydrated face, so I give myself a special treat while I drink my coffee. I started with The Ordinary Buffet, added the Inkey List Q10 two months ago and finally added Timeless Vitamin C last month. I get microdermabrasion and a Salicylic acid peel once a month, which has helped dramatically reduce my roseacea. I also use CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser and both of their facial moisturizers (AM & PM). The best news is that I have had clean checkups with my dermatologist the last two visits (no cryotherapy for actinic keratosis). As a melanoma survivor this is fabulous news! 😍😎💗

    Clindamycin is an antibiotic, i wouldn't recommend or encourage anyone to be using antibiotics on the regular if it isnt needed, it's combined with tretinoin for acne sufferers, it will have no effect for anti-aging so stick with retinols, retinals or retinaldehydes etc you will achieve the same results without compromising antibiotics future use, esp when it's only for aesthetics

  • @idellawhite7143
    @idellawhite7143 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I trust your advice as I have been following you for years and I see how you focus on the science vs. product hype. I have been using the Curology at .02% Tretinoin, 4% niacinamide, and Azelaic at 5%. Curology started me at .01% until I became disgruntled by the lack of results. I feel the same way with the 0.02% they gave me after I related my concerns. Given your relationship with the company would you recommend I ask for at least 0.06% or even higher? I am 57 years old with melasma and would really like to see some results. Your thoughts?

    • @aliciapaul132
      @aliciapaul132 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Idella. I started curology at 0.017 tretinoin. After 2 months I reached out to see if they could bump the strength up to 0.025 (I assumed this was the next step in strength) but they said they don’t offer that and that the next step up would be 0.05. I’m in the US, I wonder if the available strengths are different depending on location?

    • @AngieHotandFlashy
      @AngieHotandFlashy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The goal with Tretinoin is to ease in slowly to avoid irritation so starting at a lower percentage is great because it's still doing great things for your skin. As I said, it takes months to see a difference with tretinoin so be patient. If you're not having any irritation then it's time to bump up. Your Curology provider can guide you as to which percentage the offer with your mix that you can go up to.

      I recently started Curology too. They started me out at the 0.01% level of tretinoin but before the end of the first month I requested a bump up and they increased me to 0.02% and said they would bump it up again if I did well and wanted to increase the tretinoin again. I’m in the US so I know you can get the 0.02%.

    • @AngieHotandFlashy
      @AngieHotandFlashy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      IMHO the vitamin c esters aren't worth my time or money... much like the difference between tretinoin and retinol, THD needs to be converted by your skin into Ascorbic Acid and it's unclear if that actually happens. And if you're using THD hoping it converts into Ascorbic Acid, why not just use Ascorbic acid?
