    If you did a lore series for this I would watch it for sure!

    Thanks. Answered some of my questions about eras and factions/clans.

    I started by purchasing 3 boxes of different Inner Sphere lances. Simply because I didn't want to have the exact same mechs that every other beginner out there had... and for this game I would say that buying mechs outside of the "starter boxes" doesn't really cost you much more anyway. You most times you really don't need all the other "junk" that comes in those boxes as you could just get them online anyway.

    i only really knew about battletech through my dad and the new hbs battletech so going from succession wars to clan invasion seems like a big jump for me. hopefully the guys at the store can help

      In some ways it is a big jump. The succession wars covers a pretty big chunk of time. Almost from the fall of the Star League to the Clan Invasion. So in that time the tech base of the Inner Sphere is obliterated and in some cases the tech level regresses. So by 3025 it's close to Mad Max in space. Then a few things happen to slowly up the tech level in the Inner Sphere, just before the Clans invade with their super advanced technology. The timeline is actually 100 years beyond that at this point with even more changes.
      It is a big shift in the game and the story. A number of people don't move their games past 3025 or so to keep that initial feel.

    Would you recommend getting the special reinforcement box with all the standees over the clan invasion box?

    • @geekcabal2599
      @geekcabal2599  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on what you are after. If you have to have full 3D models then the standees likely won't satisfy you. If you are okay with standees and want to get the most bang for your buck then the reinforcement box is the best bet.
      If you are approaching this from wanting to get into the game and you are unsure, if you have a set of rules then I would get the standees as it is the best value and gives you the most options.
      If you are wondering for some other reason, let us know and we will try to answer.

      @@geekcabal2599 thank you so much. Your answer made perfect sense. Also, I don’t know if it’s widely known but the game of armored combat starter box came with a $20 coupon for the catalyst store. As a result I was able to get the reinforcement pack for only $12.

      @@mauliksharma Which box did that come in? I thought the starter has a coupon for Iron Wind Metals. Is it the larger box, The Game of Armored Combat?

    The two links we mentioned in the video:
    camospecs.com/ This is the site with regimental paint schemes for the various factions
    masterunitlist.info/ This is the site where you can see canon unit availability during various eras

    Do we know when the alpha strike box is going to be released?

    • @geekcabal2599
      @geekcabal2599  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for missing this question. Hopefully you have an answer by now but if you don't the set is out now. If you can't find it then you will need to wait for a reprint. Unlike some past BattleTech products, Catalyst has been pretty committed to keeping the boxed sets in production so it shouldn't be long (again, if they are out of stock right now).

    Hey, I play a lot board games and TTRPGs it is my biggest hobby. My son is 13 and we share very few interests, he is a video gamer 1st and foremost and has a short attention span. The one game I can get him to play is the game Unmatched which is a fast battle game. I have no experience with BattleTech besides the SNES game when I was 8, Mechwarrior, but have always been interested. I heard the new versions have Alpha Strike which makes it a very fast rules light game. Do you think alpha it is fast enough to keep a 13-year-olds attention? Are the base game turns fast enough to keep a 13-year-olds attention?

    • @geekcabal2599
      @geekcabal2599  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it would be. It plays much quicker than the regular version of BattleTech. Once you know the rules, it is mostly move or don't, shoot or don't, and the math is pretty easy. Either version only uses 2 six sided dice. If your committed to try, I would go for the Alpha Strike boxed set. If you want to try it out, the cheap option (though it isn't a whole lot cheaper than getting the box set) would be to get the Beginner Box and then go to a site like this (www.fortressminiaturesandgames.com/collections/box-sets-inner-items/products/alpha-strike-quick-start-rules-primer-alpha-strike-box-set) you can get just the quick start rules without having to buy the whole box set.

      @@geekcabal2599 Thank you so much. I think I will give it a try. Worst case scenario I get to scratch an itch I have always had sense customizing a mech when I was little on the SNES. Best case scenario he loves it and we find something we both can do. Most likely it will be somewhere in the middle.

      @@andrewduitsman3918 No problem. If you check one of our other replies on this video there are two links you might find useful. One shows faction paint schemes and the other is to other Alpha Strike stat cards (they are free and if you want you can use the mechs you get in the box set to represent other mechs if you want to try them out without having to buy the specific miniature for that specific mech).

    A game of armored combat is the one to start with. not the beginners box. the rules are not right in the beginner box. The only reason to buy the beginner box is the mechs and the maps.
