These guitars are special. They are a little bit telecaster, a little bit ES335 with a touch of SG and a smattering of Les Paul but the Baum Revolt is absolutely it's own thing.

Hi Andy! Thanks for a wonderful and transparent video! We even had a chat about this before so video went online, so we are aware :-)
As you mention, those two guitars are the first prototypes and have been shipped around quite a lot - from Europe to Asia during winter and around to TH-camrs here during the summer.
We’ll do our our part to ensure that it doesn’t happen one the actual production models. 😊
Anyway, we hope the rest of the guitar speaks for itself! You bring up some great points and you nailed the tones. 🔥
See you soon!
Would someone be able to custom order a Revolt to their specifications? I am thinking paint, finish and inlays, with a piezo bridge as the changes.
@@greylocke100 yes.. they have custom orders.. those usually are made in Denmark.
I couldn't care less about the finish lines. If it was a 3TSB you would see them even more clearly.
I'm completely satisfied with how Baum have responded. These are on my want list for sure.
Yes, warm and sweet tone, and mellow playing skills too ... great reviews, thanks!
"That's classier than a penguin on a Bentley"...sold! Haha great video Andy!
Always wanted a Baum. I was waiting till I moved to Europe to have one, but now I'm not, it's gonna rest as a beautiful dream.
Both are stunning examples. Sound awesome too. Glad you went to “the dusty end” 🤣😂 as i was gonna ask about that. Good review bro. 😎🎸🤘
My local shop had a wall of these when I picked up my Fender from repair this week & I was definitely intrigued (especially by the Wingman shape) but I didn't have time to check them out - now I definitely will!!
Thanks! Which shop is that? Cheers,
I was looking at the Celsteor and perhaps the Backwing, but I have to say the REVOLT is awesome sounding, and as you said, it's got it's own thing going on..
See you in Mannheim! I like the Baum aesthetic. Looking forward to checking them out!
It's nice to see a body shape. That is not derivative of a Gibson, with a unique upper and lower horn.
what a huge price difference for the Blackstar st james amp between Thomann Germany and Sweetwater US, i think i would rather buy the new stage 100 MKIII head instead this seem to be a great deal for what you get for "just" 999€! cheers 🎸🎸
If I was in the market for a semi-hollow or hollowbody, I'd definitely snag one of these. Then again, I buy guitars to keep for-freaking-ever, which means I'm more interested in the sound/playability than finish issues. My Strat and Epiphone SG are... very well used lol. If I had the money, I'd also grab a Deusenberg, but until I win the lottery, I have to make do with one guitar at a time. Baum makes great instruments, that's for sure.
Nice Job! Officially on the want list! 😃👍
By the time I can afford one , I'm sure the finish (or Glue?) issue will be resolved.
Been looking for a vintage Charvel Surfcaster - but this looks like a contender.
Bigsby please 😃👍
'classier than a penguin in a bentley' is the best line ever!!
Hey brother, awesome video as always! Yeah as you said I can confirm that the finishes were perfectly in tact a few weeks ago. Spending days in cooking hot trucks is very destructive (ups trucks are even painted black 😮). If these were nitro finished guitars, they’d now have a full weather checking „treatment“. 😅
Thanks brother. It’s a real shame. It shouldn’t have happened but as these are prototypes, it’s good to know Baum are looking into it.
I wonder if it's similar to Reverend guitars. Ken Haas explained that sometimes the finish sinks a bit into the wood and allows things like grain and seams to occasionally show. 🤷♂️
@@SfordRog And they are even made in the same factory ;-).
Had this video playing in the background while working and the fuzz section made me drop what I was doing. Sounds like they were made for fuzz
Looks amazing and sounds great, would love to review them as well. Guitar Summit is a bit hard to come for but maybe next year.
Those guitars look perfect for Queens of the Stone Age riffs.
I play a VEGA Wingman.......cool Monster ;) I made a small video of my own but of course nothing like you andy....great video, great guitar
These guitars have a beautiful voice. They seem somehow lively, more alive and as if that liveliness is inspiring.
Queue the video: a reviewer who does not want to put the guitar down (in more ways than one?)
Shame about the finish, wow about the voice - they took the amps in their stride sounding good all the way
I like the Wingman, it's on my want list.
The black and gold guitar looks beautiful, really makes me want it but I also have big shovel hands
I only started learning how to play the guitar about five weeks ago & I'm documenting my entire journey on here so watching this was super interesting!
Welcome to the wonderful world of guitars!
@@baumguitars Thanks a lot! And thanks for the brilliant vids you put out!
I need bottom protection!
I don’t mind the finish issue, just not at that price point. That aside they look beautiful.
I liked the finish issue, it makes it more look like a Nitro finish.
Love the body shape, hate the headstock, think it is really ugly. Sounds lovely in your hands Andy, the QC issue is quite uncommon with Korean made guitars I've owned over the years, will keep an eye out for Baum!
Wow does that every make me want one of those guitars .. Kinda reminds me of maybe an upscale Reverend kind of idea ..?
😂 Incredible Thanks 👍 Andy.
Obviously I’ve never had one of these in my hands, but I have a Korean made Reverend 12 string I got at a demo discount for finish issues. Probably not widespread. The actual construction feels similar to higher end Mexican Fenders in that price range like my Duff signature bass, and far better than a player series that is much cheaper.
I will never fall in love with that headstock.
A penguin in a Bently lol
Ouch. That finishing issue is going to hurt. Aside from that Baum guitars are phenomenal.
It’s not something we’ve seen before on our models, but it’s definitely something we’ll be aware of.
Andy raises a great point about humidity and shipping. And these are not brand new guitars. They’re our first (as serial number indicates) Revolts and have been used around the world for different purposes, so… too many different climates within a rather short period of time may have done something here 😅. That’s unfortunate, but the transparency here is appreciated.
Anyway, I hope you liked the rest of the video!
Best,
Jeppe
I absolutely did. And they are great guitars.
Have the ever considered doing a "ChikaChicka" model?
Take your time... I'll wait...
There it is!
Baum Chicka Cicka!! 😎👌
😂😂😂🎉
@@baumguitars Feel free to send me Guitars to review! 😁😘
On my speakers that guitar sounds like a Red Special!
I've bought the Baum Blackwing two months ago. It has their p90 rewind pickups.
(I believe it's a one off prototype Backwing) I got it on sale direct from Baum..I paid like 1000 euros for 1300 euro guitar... is it worth it? I hate to say this.. but 100% yes.. what a beautiful guitar AND a dream to play.
It's made with a low price asian version of Mahogany, but it produces a great sound evem unplugged and the neck is just perfect...
Personally it should be made i denmark for this price... but they do have a lot of guitars on sale throughout the year for 30-40% off the original price.
Oh.. and maybe just a good marketing idea for the guys at Baum guitar.. for a guitar that's over 1000 euros, maybe include a gigbag or free shipping.. (I am well aware of the insane taxes you have to pay in denmark)
Thanks for rocking the Backwing! And this nice comments. That's great to read :) Due to our insane taxes in Denmark, it would simply cost more like 5000€ to make in Denmark. But as we're slowly progressing, we're also now able to include both the gigbag and shipping. This will be available on the Backwing when it makes its return in 2024.
Quick note on the discounts, we've had some stock of B- and C-stock (like artist loans, demo guitars, tradeshow uses etc etc) which we cleared out at up to 40%.
Again, thanks!
All the best,
Jeppe
Really like the looks, and it does seems to be its own guitar. But that headstock looks like a gibson headstock with a sock over it... not sure about that.
Oh a 1600+ guitar should not be made from wood that isn't dry. I expect that from
I am going to invest in a Baum. On the fence as to which. They all seem extremely well thought out and sound great. Reading in the comments I see so many people talk about how over priced it is for being a Korean guitar. Guys. These guitars are made in Denmark these are not Korean or Asian made, these are from Denmark. Aarhus, Denmark To be exact. Do your own research with no disrespect to the creator of this channel but his statement that they're made in Asia and put together in Denmark is completely wrong do your research go to their website and it will tell you exactly
The Revolt (I own one by the way) and all the others from the "original series" ARE made in the MIRR-Factory in South Korea. The cheaper VEGA line is made in Indonesia.
lol in wingman vega review with the same gig bag you said it was very padded. I own one and it’s not more padded than any other 50 bucks gig bag but rather less if anything.
I’m amazed someone pays so much attention. Thank you
@@TheGuitarGeek I’m a big fan 😅
oh,they are semi hollow... how neat!
Very neat indeed!
If someone goes through the trouble to counterfeit a guitar I doubt they would stop at a certificate
What Queen song was that?
Looks and sounds great but that headstock looks like part of it melted or it has a droopy nose. I could never get past that.
Attractive guitars! But those finish blemishes are nasty. I would return a €300 Harley Benton if it had something like this.
Seeing a join line doesn’t bother me at all
I prefer to see the woodgrain, so it may be visible as well, but not an issue for me
There’s shrinkage!!
The C neck makes it a non starter for me. I like a bigger nevk too.
The guitars look fab but for the high price, I'd expect a hard case.
YES ANDY! I will also say....these would doom.... just roll back the tone a little. Baum need to release an aluminum neck guitar and get in cahoots with SUNN AMPS or your friends at JPTR FX
Baum guitars are insanely good. I have the Wingman which I love.
The wingman is the guitar that first turned me on to Baum. I can’t wait to try one!!!
oohhh yeah! That neck pickup has my kinda tone! 🙂 Great review Andy! Ah, I am just out of 3 days of vegan/veggie HELL and, yes, my bottom needs some protection!! Lentils for the fart, sorry, I mean the win 🤣
7:26 anyone else think that riff sounds a bit like Killing In The Name by Rage?
Jimmy Hendrix had big hands too so there you go! 😅
They sound really good. I'm too cheap to purchase any guitar that costs over $400. I'm not a professional and don't need anything that expensive to play in my bedroom.
You'd like the EC-256.
@@mylogify I bought one of those about five years ago for $249 new. The inlays had big glue spots all around them because they were cut too small. The nut slots weren't deep enough. The tuning machines were sloppy too. The neck pickup wasn't loud enough. It was positioned too low. Raising it enough to get a good sound made it too close to the strings. It resonated better than any solid body guitar I'd ever tried.
At the time I didn't have any guitar tech tools to fix the nut slots. I did change the tuners. Still, I wasn't happy with the appearance of the inlays. The original tuners were reinstalled and it was sold at a slight profit.
Now it seems that ESP only sells the FM models for over $400. I would't spend that much money to get the same thing that I had before, knowing it would likely have the same flaws.
@@MrMoneyHelper mine is FM and didn’t have those issues. Tuners are fine, pups were nice but switched to EMG. No issue with fretboard inlays. Had to cut the nut from bottom to make a lower action not too bad. Only issue last fret was high it had to be fixed. Now it’s pretty good! I wouldn’t sell it, I enjoy it a lot even though I have 3 other higher end ones… I believe $250 and $480 guitar can be different.
@@mylogify They're the same instrument. Mine was $150 off. The regular price was $399 at the time. Now that price is up to $599 retail. I checked today. I can say that I miss it because of the great way it resonated. It could have been transformed into a great guitar, but the aesthetic problem of the poorly cut inlays would always have bothered me. That is why it was sold.
If ever I come across a used one that resonates just as well, I would be tempted to get it, if the price were low enough.
Awesome looking guitars….but weird fn headstock 😢
Totally transparent as usual Andy! The finish is an issue no matter how you dress it up! I live in Portugal. Its 48 degrees in summer, gets below 5 in winter... I don´t have a climate controlled storage room for my guitars so, yes, that would be a big issue for me and would happen in one place, in one year! At the price pojnt, nah, not acceptable!
Climate can be tough for any guitar anywhere in the world. Totally agree with you. How do you normally keep your guitars? :-)
@@baumguitars Hanging on the wall and take my chances BUT they are not 1700 euros a piece ;-)
@@baumguitars Dont get me wrong, the guitars are fantastic and, if I were ever given one ;-) I would be a very happy owner. Just that finish thing on an expensive guitar would break my heart
For me the finish would be a prob. Way too expensive to overlook that. I’m sure the company would replace if it was such a rare issue. Crazy they didn’t spot it before sending though.
Agree :) And this guitar came straight from Kris Barocsi (and he had no issues), and for once we decided to ship it straight to a new youtuber. As Andy mentions, something may have happened during transit as it was during some CRAZY hot days. Anyway, we're definitely aware of this now and will look into it. If it's an issue, then we'll of course find a good solution with the player :) Cheers, Jeppe
What happened to that meeting with Harley Benton you were supposed to have????
It's on Guitar Summit on 22 September
It'd be also cool, with a Nitro finish, like I say for every guitar hahaha, looks nice guitar. I agree EVH would use this! :D It has that sound!
Too bad this guitar isn't on their website.
Gretschenberg….Deusengretsch
One change is needed, cut the price in half
Quick question then: which features would you remove or reduce the quality of to lower the price? Because that would be a compromise :)
They do have a budget series which is quite decent.. and they do have some nice sales on their website.
Funny, it reminds me of the Gibson guitar that some considered to be ugly.
Yeah, we're never happy with definite signs of shrinkage.
They dont make lefty or I'd own one.
Who cares about where it is made. IF (and only if) the build quality is on Eastman level the price is justified.
Being a decades old guitarist and collector… 1)cost way to much! 2) The design is just ..Eh .. which goes back to 1.. way to much. 3) It’s Korean which goes back to 1.. $849.99 not $1600 so it’s a hard pass for me. The sound is unique but not worth it and why Andy didn’t buy one and hoped they send one because if you really want a guitar you got it asap! Not wait and hope they send you one for TH-cam 😂
To answer your question, because people have been asking me to review it and this is my job.
Unfortunately, if you want to order one of these guitars from outside the UK, post Brexit, then you will be paying import duty and tax, plus couriers handling fees. You'll need to find out who deals with these within the UK.
UK Prices £1099.00 and £1389.00, respectively,
Hey! Thanks for pointing this out. We've actually just found a solution to make this simple. From now on our price online will cover everything. And we handle everything from our workshop to your doorstep. No extra costs. No handling fees. No extra duties. That's simple to us :) Have a great weekend! Best, Jeppe
So, discount vouchers for loyal customers who previously bought a Baum guitar? 😊
But seriously... some "case candy" would have been cool.. 😂
Far far too expensive for a korean guitar. They do look nice enough and the sound is interesting, but they need to be 799 not 1599.
For any guitar!
What about Reverend Guitars? Highly rated and some with similar prices and made in Korea.
@Scott0526 Yeha but highly rated amongst a very small handful of players because most will never even try one - same could be said for Duesenberg (built in Croatia) - nice guitars but they're never gonna be anything but a nice obscurity because of the price.
There's been a growing trend in the last few years of building guitars in the 'cheap places' but pricing them as though they were built in the 'expensive places' (looking at you chappers lol). I'm sure it makes for a big profit margin but its a crappy practice. Eastman is another - made in china but priced like they're made in the USA.
Anyone who's bought these things eventually realizes they don't hold their value if you come to sell them - you're lucky to get half your money back even if the guitar is mint, and in many cases even a third is unlikely. If you don't care about these things and you have more money to burn than most of us do, then go for it if something takes your fancy, but every guitar sold at these way over inflated prices just validates the practice, which is bad news for the majority of us in the long run.
why does it matter where the guitar is made ? What country do you buy your guitars from ?
I've got Baum Blackwing with tbeir p90 rewind pickups. I got it on sale direct from Baum..I paid like 1000 euros for 1300 euro guitar... is it worth it? I hate to say this.. but 100% yes.. what a beautiful guitar AND a dream to play.
