Gen's reason was also a moral one, the person most willing to take Senku's target spot is Taiju. Gen would be risking the life of the person he named, but he knows that Taiju is the type of boy who would accept such a dangerous task for Senku's sake. Taiju doesn't need to understand the plan, he is a boy of emotions and will do what he is asked because he is Senku's best friend. He is someone who responds quickly, so in my opinion I understand why Gen chose him. First, the strong person must be one of the petrified, since not knowing about the ancient world would betray not being the scientific leader. This greatly reduces our options, leaving us with Tsukasa, Hyoga, and Taiju. Hyoga is a latent danger, so it is an obvious no, Tsukasa still feels like a circumstantial ally, and is very suspicious because Stanley already knew that he is very strong, since Tsukasa was the one who first detected his hiding place. It would be strange if the strongest guy was the scientist, this would be seen as an obvious lie to hide the real one. When we talk about agreeing to put his life at risk for Senku, the first to come to everyone's mind is Taiju.
Also, Stan saw Tsukasa fighting off the Alligators and was the one to detect Stan was about to attack due to his battle instincts. So the odds of him also being the genius scientist was low. Taiju was the best choice since he's the toughest guy and none of the Americans would have seen him in action/heard of him like Tsukasa who's famous.

Yeah that 'dr Taiju' definitely biggest bruh moment ever, i guess he didn't mention Tsukasa because Stanley already known him as a powerful samurai so if in the future they learned Senku's crew name, the lie would be more believable. I mean it is Gen we talking about, he maybe already figured Stanley enough at least to planning something to not cause more harm to Senku crew But dr Taiju is just to much of a troll, like bruuuh

Taiju is a old world people too so he at least can bullshit science and he not doing so much of other special role . It's a good pick
