Jóságos ég! Ilyen zenét "csinálni" és így élvezni! Élni a zenét!
One of the best!
One of the most amazing performances I have ever seen.
Saw this live with Rozhdestvensky and Postnikova many years ago in Tonhalle Zürich for a New Year's concert! It was, and is, great!
This was such a legendary performance, I probably have replayed it a hundred times.
This Is how one leads the orchestra. Everyone who aspires to be a conductor should see this and learn.
Oh, I love this, he made me laugh and smile, haven't seen conductor to be so funny. Even funeral march somehow didn't sound too serious. Bravo Maestro
I saw the premiere of thsi work in Moscow many, many years ago... It's so sad that he left us....
I could watch Rozhdestvensky all day. Gogolian, as someone said below, or Dickensian.
00:20 Prologue.
04:36 Polka.
05:46 Funeral march.
08:56 March.
10:31 Evocation of Pliouchkine's past.
15:24 Mazurka.
18:40 At Manilov's.
23:35 Waltz.
27:12 Finale: Galop.
27:55 Nice Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto quotation.
Thank you Christian. This is the best performance of Dead Souls.
I didn't hear Tchaikovsky but before the Gallop there is a tiny fragment of the song Dark Night (Tiomnaya Noch)
... R.i.P. great Maestro (1931-2018) ... very specially in conducting - an important institution of russian music-history...
I never knew of this irreverent and wonderful suite, and never knew about the theatrical side of this great Russian conductor A great surprise.
It's Schnittke's Dead Souls
I think he is the "russian Bernstein".... a great conductor... a great composer...wonderful perfomance!
Be careful, the composer is Alfred Schnittke 🙂
Yes!!!! 👏
I think it's not quite right to call him "Russian Bernstein". They are equal in their greatness.
I agree absolutely. The music just pours from him in a way that reminds me of Bernstein.
Wanderfull man ...
R.I.P. Gennady Rozhdestvensky (1931 - 2018)
indeed this conductor is phantastic BUT DOES ONE REALIZE THE MUSIC IS FROM THE HAND AND HEART OF ALFRED SCHNITTKE? NO MUSIC NO CONDUCTOR!
Formidable! Un compositeur que je ne connaissais pas! Superbe complète composition!
Extraordinario manejo de la temporalidad musical múltiple!!!
The pianist is "Mrs. Rozhdestvensky'.
Fantastique!!!
What a master.
"Genka" - quiet a gogolian character!! R.I.P. Master!!!

This is brilliant!
oh wow i really wish there is a remastered or HD quality version of this recording somewhere. This is so good.
Which film music by Schnittke is it ?
Is it available in CD ?
(please)
Found ! The film is "the dead souls"
It is from the Film "Die toten Seelen", in English "The dead Souls"
Es un clásico de oro
God help us.
