    This is what I try and tell people all the time, you can't possibly use all that power and capability on the street. The car never feels stressed and you never reach anywhere near the limit. The GTR was a bit better than the corvette in this situation but you still couldn't really be full throttle for more than 2 seconds. The limit is what you want that's what makes a car fun and engaging. For the track these cars are phenomenal, truly uncompromising performance but for the road I'd rather have something like a miata.

    I've always been a fan of the Merc AMG GT since it's release. I would also pick it over the two if given the choice and I prefer the styling of the GTR too.

    You can change the C7 steering weight separate from what drive drive mode your in. The option is found in the infotainment screen.

      no matter what steering mode you choose, it will be the same weigh in track mode.

    Quite the upscale review. Keep up the good work. Although I haven’t driven those two exactly, I agree with your sentiment. I believe driver confidence and enjoyment are more important that raw numbers. They seem to be so underrated because most people never get to experience “too much car for the street”.

    For future vids it would be fun to see your impression of classics, particularly the ones that have reputations as driver's cars like old Alfa Romeos or a BMW 2002. You have a ton of experience with modern stuff, so it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on a totally different type of experience. I imagine it is easier said than done allowing people to let you test their priceless classic (and I know you've reviewed an air-cooled 911), but this would be an interesting avenue to explore IMO.

    Hell yes, AMG-GTR all day, sexiest car ever created in history. Both of these cars have the exact same nurburgring time, but the amg does it with 150hp less lol, the amg-gt is peak front-mid engine car, imagine the next one. The non pro is 100× more fun to drive on road, and the base gt is even better then that on road. Btw this AMG-GTR is 55lb lighter then the non pro and weighs 3539lb curb weight.

    Just found your channel.
    Good stuff!
    I currently have 2020 AMG GTR-Pro with Renntech mods (669hp, 624tqe).
    Couple of things...the engine sits behind the front axle, so it behaves like a front midengine car.
    Also, the 4 wheel steering makes the car feel much more nimble, had to get used to the feeling with slow turns, felt like the rear was going to kick out.
    But I find the suspension just a little too stiff for daily use.
    Otherwise, love the car...

    You need to point out the fact that the zr1 testing at the track at that time, was down over 100hp+. They ran the car with roughly 10hp less than a z06 puts out and still almost dipped into the 6 minute range.. i prefer the zr1. Owned previous C6 zr1 ( a beast) and looked at a AMG Gtr . The "pro" is a veryyyyy limited run car of 750 units while the c7 zr1 produced around 2900. The styling is you like it or dont with the amg really no in between. Either you liked the original gullwing or you didn't. I happen to like the interior more than the exterior on the AMG. I just know when i need to fix things , it will be a hell of a lot cheaper for the vette :) Don't know how took this into interior since what i wanted to post was the zr1 was down 125hp when it ran the 7:04 at the ring.

    You can find a slightly older AMG GT for about the same money as a ZR1 all in they're about the same money. The AMG is a much better balanced car. There's a reason the AMG does 6: 43 on the Nurburgring .... The Corvette should have came with a DCT option or does it ?

  • @seanpollard4844
    @seanpollard4844 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Amazing cars that need a track to be fully realized but even on the street the giggles never end. I think the zr1 has a longer term appeal as it would likely take serious seat time to master the beast.

    I'm jealous again Fenton, what a great experience that must have been. I'm not a Chevy guy by any means, but I'm a fanboy of this absolutely savage ZR. Seems like your review is describing the different settings on these cars. Maybe your less than confidence inspiring driver experience of the C7 was influenced by setting the suspension to full sport mode and turning the traction control off? You didn't mention turning off the GTR's traction control but did say you adjusted it's suspension to "a nice balance between street and track." Any clarification there?

    • @joeracer302
      @joeracer302 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Every single review of the C7 ZR1 basically sums up as “this is the craziest, scariest most insane car that should never be driven at full throttle on the street.” Every. Single. One.

    • @Datsun510zen
      @Datsun510zen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joeracer302 Okay, I haven't watched Every. Single. One, but I didn't suggest he try that. My observation is that if the ZR1's traction control was turned on, maybe Fenton's driving experience would have been more confidence inspiring.

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually the traction control being disabled wasn't the primary reason I wasn't confident in the ZR1. It was mainly the disconnected steering feel. I couldn't predict how the car would behave in corners.

    • @Datsun510zen
      @Datsun510zen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Zygrene Got it. You did mention the electric steering gave it a vague heavy wheel with no feedback. With all that HP and light rear end I was kinda freaked out that you turned the TC off. Made me nervous after seeing you drift that Ferrari. LOL

    The GT-R is clearly the more approachable of the two and looks as if it can be enjoyed as much on as well as off the track. C7 is an intimidating mean machine that you can only taste 40-50% in the canyons yet would make an autocross monster with the long 2nd gear and bananas amount of traction!

    The C7 chassis just isn’t capable of that kind of power, and a supercharged 6.2l is making soo much torque down low it’s likely impossible to use it on the street on a street tire. I’d be curious what you thought of the earlier c6 z06, less low end torque more rpm and people making 650 hp to the tire with heads/cam/bolt on ls7s naturally aspirated. The C6 chassis has proven capable of supporting high hp more frequently also. Love the zr1 but its just too much, sounds like Mercedes found the right balance with the GTR Pro, do you think the gtr pro is worth 2x+ a normal AMG Gts or similar?

    • @verdict1163

      That’s not true. Real drivers especially old school drivers know how to manage throttle to control the back end. You can drive the thing and quite easy just gotta master how the car rotates and manage the weight load up. It’s not easy for most because in this day and age because most Americans aren’t going to a track or even trained in a manual. I also prefer the automatic to the manual. Helps the car make the most of the enormous acceleration it possesses
