    I bought my gh4 in 2019 (used) and i’m still shooting on it that’s why i’m here… and since it didn’t have v-log I was shooting with cinelike-d PP since day one and tried a bunch of settings over the years. I also have everything at -5 but when it comes to Highlight/Shadow curves I have it off and iDynamic - i have that on high Resolution on standard and luminance level 16-235, Master pedestal level as well off otherwise it would just screw everything. That’s what I kinda figured out to get the most out of my camera in terms of DR and Post-workflow. But i’m still not really sure about it, especially Highlight/Shadow curve, if it helps changing it or screws…

      Ya definitely trail and error haha. Everyone has preferences. But higher shadows and lower highlights are definitely a cool thing to have in post.

      @@STGFilmmakers why is it a cool thing to have in post?

    • @STGFilmmakers

      @@BeTheBrahman a flatter original file to work with, with slightly more range in exposure. Then I normally add in the amount of contrast I want in the editing suite. More options essentially.

    I noticed you put (rec709 conversion applied)
    I was under the impression it was rec709 already? If its not rec709 what would the conversion be for color space and gamma?

    • @STGFilmmakers
      @STGFilmmakers  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So the input color space would be V-Gamut
      and the Gamma would be Panasonic Vlog
      but... Since it's not an actual Log curve technically we can just make the curve corrections ourselves. Panasonic's factory VLOG LUT can still work. It's tricky I understand what your trying to say though. It's just that the LOG in the GH4 isn't technically a full log curve so when applying a color space transform it's going to look very aggressive. I have applied a transform in the way described above and just turn the gain down on the node to adjust the intensity and that seems to work as well.

    • @STGFilmmakers

      slightly custom. It only dips shadows down slightly deeper to help with noise. thanks fam!

    Still have my GH4. Sometimes for video you don't want a camera with IBIS because of the camera is shaking and even if IBIS is turned off it can still move.

    Where can I get a Cine-D to rec 709 conversion lut? Do you know? Anyone?

    • @STGFilmmakers
      @STGFilmmakers  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cine-D is a rec709 space already. It's not a log so you can just adjust to add contrast and saturation manually to your liking. Now there are Cine-D LUTs floating around you can search for, but they are simply just someone's idea on how to make curve and color adjustments to a Cine-D file. You can develop your own or, just add in a light exposure curve/corrections and add saturation to your hearts content, which is extremely easy and satisfying.

    thank you for this video. but i have question about saturation level and denoise. at video of 96 frames you set there sat at -3 and denoise at -3.
    why saturation and denoise is set here at -5 and -5 at 24 frames ?
    you changed mind or there is reason of that.

    • @STGFilmmakers
      @STGFilmmakers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem. I find that 24fps footage coming out of the GH4 look better with a lower level of in camera Noise Reduction (-5) At Higher framerates this sensor produces noticeably more noise. So the in camera NR is bumped up slightly (to -3)

      I feel ya, the Lumix lenses kinda suck. However, the 25mm Panasonic f1.7 is actually a really great looking lens on the cheap. If you got some extra cash for a lens ($400+ used), the Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 is one of the best lenses for Micro Four Thirds.

      What kind of lenses are you looking for? I use the native 12-35mm, f2.8(v1), 35-135 mm for almost all my shots. They're great with in-built stabilisation. Otherwise, I have the Helios M44-2, Canon FL 35, f3.5 for primes and the Fujian 35mm for 'special effects' shots.
      Alternatively, you could opt for a metabones speedbooster with a canon EF mount and that'll open the door for Canon lenses. : )
