      Right hand drive becomes second nature so fast. For years I commuted in a lhd manual, daily driver was a rhd manual, and family car was a lhd auto...lol... And drove a rear wheel steer forklift at work and manual racecar for fun.

    When I first got my Honda Beat I had no issues instantly converting to RHD. It just clicked for me. Never messed up the shifting, never messed up the turn signals, never messed up the mirrors… it was just natural.
    I had so many people exclaiming how they thought it must be so difficult to drive because everything is backwards. People whom I know personally and are all great drivers. Many times I told them how easy it actually is. Because of that many people wanted to give it a try which I had no problem with.
    This is how I learned that people’s brains are often wired VERY differently.
    Some people were like me and it just instantly clicked. Some people could not grasp how the turn signals and whipper stalks were flipped (and she was from England where they drive on that side?), some people could not grasp using their left hand for shifting, and some people could not understand that the shift pattern WASNT backwards. They kept going to 1st instead of 5th and 5th instead of 1st. Worst though (somehow worse than the person who couldn’t shift) be could not get it though his head that he had to still drive on the right side of the road… his brain kept telling him that he had to be close to the center of the road so be was just positioning himself right down the double yellow so he could be where he was in a normal car. He COULD NOT reprogram his head to do otherwise.
    Needless to say I don’t really let people drive my car now unless you can prove you are actually competent.

    • @MrGrentch
      @MrGrentch 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      "This is how I learned that people’s brains are often wired VERY differently." Yep. I've found similar down the years. LHD/RHD doesn't really bother me(I learned and drive on LHD). A couple of minutes and I'm fine. Driving on the "other" side of the road takes a little more initial concentration, but again after a while I'm fine. However and like you some I've known just never really take to it. As if it's far more hard wired in their brains?
      I know what you mean about indicator stalks. In RHD land many Japanese made and certainly JDM import cars have the indicator stalk on the right, but many if not most European cars don't(I suppose because they're designed as LHD from the start), so that could explain that British woman's confusion, if all she had driven before were Euro built Opals/Fords/BMW's. A friend of mine, who otherwise is a _very_ competent driver had a loaner car when his was with his mechanic, but it was a Japanese car and for damned near all of the three days he drove it every time he came to a junction his wipers would go on first. 😄 Then again, another friend of mine drives BMW's so that's never an issue as they don't use indicators anyway... 😜

    • @MrDuncl
      @MrDuncl 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MrGrentch My first two cars were Fords. A 1974 MK1 Escort then a 1980 Capri. For some reason they had the indicators on opposite sides.

    • @MrGrentch
      @MrGrentch 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MrDuncl You just took me back in time Mr D. 🙂
      My dad was a Ford man and I learned to drive on his 83 Capri. I loved that car. Only a 1.6, but it was "Irish spec" so small engine because of our taxes, but with Recaro seats, pale metallic green, stripes down the side, a clock, mechanically adjustable mirror(only in the driver's side, no need to go mad) and a rev counter. Oh yes, _Fancy_ 😄 _Fantastic_ gearbox, near perfect driving position and lovely (manual) steering too. Practical too with the hatch. It was sold on in the mid 90's(I still regret that), but was still alive in 2003, so maybe it's out there somewhere... A friend's dad had a Mark 1 Escort, another had, and actually still has a Mark 2 RS2000. A car with a big heart and one of the most successful rally cars ever.
      Tbh i can't recall where the indicators were on the Capri. I _think_ they were on the left. Ours was built in Cologne, maybe the Brtish built ones were different? I do remember after a couple of other European brand cars getting into my first Japanese(import) car and initially having to remember the indicator stalk was on the right.
      These days I'm still kinda old school, as my daily is a Japanese import Honda Integra Type R from 1998 and has been since 05(almost by mistake😄). And in many ways harks back to that Capri; coupe, Recaro seats, _fantastic_ gearbox, near perfect driving position and yep, practical too. Though the Capri's rear seats were actually usable by adults. Well... small adults. And it's a lot quicker.😁

    • @MrDuncl
      @MrDuncl 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MrGrentch I suspect the difference was that the Escort was made in the U.K. while the Capri was made in Cologne. Yes the back seat was very useable. I once had six in the car (four in the back) for a short journey. My 1980 pre-dated rear seat belts. A car that I have driven recently which reminded me of the Capri was a BMW 420. Nothing like as practical though. I once easily fitted an unassembled single pine bed complete with mattress in the Capri.

      I've only driven LHD on holiday in the USA. It was it being an automatic which I found the most unnerving. I had hope to have a practice around the hire car companies car park but they had parked it right by the exit so it was straight out into Boston traffic sitting on the left of the car with a large brake pedal almost where the clutch should have been.
      A few days later we encountered a roundabout or circle. No problem to me, while non local Americans were sitting there exclaiming "what the heck".

The Cappuccino is perfect for daily driving, plenty fast enough in any situation, easy to modify for more power if you want it, cheap to run, reliable, and can order any parts i miggt need from Japan though parts are getting expensive as this car is becoming more sought-after.
    If anyone plans on getting one id go for the later model as mid 1995 onwards the motor was an all alloy, timing chain (not belt) and has 17% more torque which is massively noticable.

      Thank you so much for the reply, It sincerely made my day!! I remember when you first made videos you would always have with “and with Alantis King “ and honestly now when a Cars & Bids video is posted and I get click baited when it’s not you haha I’m sure you see the stats with how long fans stay on the whole video with you vs with other broadcasters haha spreading positive fan girl vibes but it’s the truth. I can only watch you or Doug

    That car is narrow enough it should be forgiving for first time RHD.

    As a Honda guy I’d really like to drive the beat. The cappuccino was in the famous initial d. It was a formidable car on the touge in that series. Also fun fact for Alanis once you drive a few more jdm rhd cars it’ll really confuse you driving a rhd British car because the turn signals are on the traditional side. Weird 😵‍💫
