I drove both as a taxi driver, early 2000's. They bought cop Crown Vic's mostly. They had a cop Caprice. the CV was a better car. Caprice was a gas guzzler, drove like a whale in comparison. Caprice was too full of being buttons, etc. CV made sense.
This has to be one of the most beat up looking cars I have seen on here. The first time I was that body damage I was like..."Oh jeez this ought a be good."
There may also be the double line runner on a hill right after the safe to pass lines stop, I've seen a few coming from behind me. I slowed down both times so he/she could pass faster.
Yeah these things are tough as nails. I know the engine is slow and inefficient but it's smooth as silk and since it spins so slow the torque is good and it can go 500k+ and never burn a drop of oil. There's no way these high strung turbocharged motors today will do that sort of thing.
Djonkie Bonk No turbo engine would do that huh? Guess you never heard of the 2JZ, and realistically, who is comparing tubo to NA anyways, only you! Looks like your desperately grasping at anything to prove your own beliefs to in this failure to others... Yah, turbos must be so unreliable that our whole transportation fleet of super high mileage semi trucks in the US (and elsewhere) must have gotten something wrong....
Neal Lehman Yeah leave it to somebody to get their panties in a wad. I meant modern day tiny high strung motors. The 2JZ is probably one of the best and smoothest in the industry. Turbo diesels are bulletproof reliable. I meant the newest direct injection motors that run at a high temperature and are putting out tons of HP per liter. You supposedly save money on gas but those savings will go to cleaning out intake valves of carbon every 40k and the turbo components on those will not last as long as long as engines of yore. I was referring to gas motors, not diesels.
Djonkie Bonk in all honesty they aren't all that ineffecient, horsepower wise sure they're putting out larger numbers today but mpg? compare cars in its weight class today and there's not much of a difference and most of that is in the new 6-8 speed transmissions 1992 caprice 5.7l is rated 17city/25highway 2013 impala gets 18city/31highway with a 6speed tranny and waying in at 700-1000lbs less
they don't really donk the 9c1's. Many have been bought by enthusiast as a cheap fast car with better handling than the standard caprice, and most of the rest have been bought by collectors. Fun fact: a small number of B-Body Caprices are still in normal police service with some police departments.
I'm really surprised he never mentioned that the Caprice was widely used as a POLICE CAR and taxi, as a competitor to the legendary Crown Victoria in the '80s and '90s...
The Caprice is a potentially awesome sleeper. You need to put in an LT1 (if it doesn't have one already), a T56 transmission and the suspension, brakes, limited slip differential and engine cooling from the Impala SS. And off you go.
That's the "donkification" he was talking about. You forgot to mention the ugly 22 inch steam roller tires. Ugh. Doing that completely defeats and trailer-parks the entire point of this car. It's not supposed to be a fast race car. It's supposed to be a big, comfortable quiet, but also reasonably powerful cruiser, with the comfort designed for well to do middle class retirees who want and deserve the kind of car they admired their whole lives but who couldn't afford a Fleetwood or Town Car. Just buy and trash up an old Camaro or something instead, and don't ruin the essential characteristics of a land yacht like this and save it for people who actually like it for what it is and aren't trying to turn it into a whiter-trash Vette with room for 6 and all of their kids and a meth lab in the trunk.
I miss the Caprice as a police vehicle (9C1) and taxi, it was a good competitor to the beloved Crown Victoria during the '90s.. Btw, I love that skirted rear wheels.
Great cars, these Caprices. Had driven many in my time, with both the regular 4.3 and 5.7 versions. The LT1 was no slouch, even today, with its tuned suspension and rip roaring engine.
The most idiotic audio I've ever heard that had nothing to do with the old car that this pretentious constipated asshole was supposed to be documenting.
These cars are awesome! They ride smooth and will last forever! Long live the b-bodies :) I had a 1991 with the 305 as my daily drive in Helsinki from 2009 to 2019.
@@NevyZine :) This video came as a recommendation to me by youtube and I saw my old comment. I sold my old Chevy to a friend who restored it and gave it to his son as a first car. Now I drive a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis "Presidential Edition" I managed to find a two owner car in mint condition it now has 30000miles on the odometer.
I live in the Midwest US, I inherited my parents 91, still looks great with maroon paint and grey interior, and there siply isn't anything build since the B bodied that comes CLOSE to the comfort an smooth ride of these cars. It's over 100,000, but drives and looks better than a flimsy front wheel drive car with 50,000. These cars were BUILT to last. Forever. The most expensive Lexus and Benz? Not even close. And neither of those cars get the compliments and approving looks nearly as much ,either. Everyone wants to buy it, too. From old white men to young black thugs, I've been offered cash at cash stations. GM , you should listen, there absolutely IS a market for big, comfortable REASONBLY PRICED large cars. I have zero interest in driving a troop carrier that seats 8, requires a step ladder and the visibility of a tank's mail slot, and requires a mortgage to fill the tank., and loud, droning knobby off road tires. I don't ever plan to drive on anything other than smooth pavement. Helsinki ? Wow, I bet they are even more admired there!
***** Yes, but it probably wouldn't be in states that have roadworthiness inspections. And it's questionable whether it should be on the road on safety grounds, that amount of rust is bound to have compromised the structure of the car making it much more likely to collapse in an uncontrolled manner in an impact. That car would have no chance of passing an MoT in the UK...
We had a 1992 Caprice with the 5.7 engine. We bought it brand new and sold it in 2013. Not a single issue with the engine during the 21 years we had it. I still miss it to this day. I learned driving on that car.
They didn't make the Impala SS until 94 and they only made them through 96. The 93 and earlier were nowhere near as good as the later ones. Great cars, freaking reliable, decent mileage, and built like tanks. They're still a tiny bit scary, even now, when you have that visceral fear of the law as you see one approaching you from behind.
I've owned a 1996 Caprice, 209k miles, 350 LT-1, and I just bought a 1993 Caprice with 106k miles on the 305. Very sturdy, reliable and comfortable vehicles. I'll always have a soft spot for these.
I think it's worth mentioning, that era Caprice is still the most popular car for law enforcement, ever. The later LT1 Caprice's were actually refurbished by some law enforcement agencies, because by the early 2000's everything else on the law enforcement market was front drive garbage... Except for the crown vic, that was rear wheel drive garbage.
jshdwhite79All my police buddies and friends on the force love their crown vics. Even the old timers there before my time. I've been driving an explorer and I like it.
jshdwhite79 Don't be butthurt, you know the Crown Vic was the last to hold the body-on-frame, RWD torch. Even GM gave up on the RWD Caprice in the late 90's.
This was the first video of RCR I ever watched. Thank you RCR for putting a smile on my face and giving me a reason to look forward to Mondays since 2013.
You know, I showed this TH-cam page to a friend of mine, who's a big car guy, and all he could say to me was; "Dude, what's the point of this? This is just a joke review." Obviously, slightly miffed I broke it down for him. In reality, despite the fact that these are hilarious, RCR manages to not only break down the feel of a car, and its' history, but also the personality of a vehicle in a way nobody else does. Honestly, what more could you ask for? This is the American Top Gear I think we always wanted.
I will never forget the first time I saw a 91 Caprice dressed up as a NYC medallion taxi. It really looked futuristic. Around five years later they were all gone.
Haha, I've got a '95 Caprice Police Package car... TOTALLY different car from the '92 TBI Caprice. The LT1 really brings the car to life, and the quick-ratio steering box makes it much more responsive as well. But holy crap this review is so spot on it's hilarious haha. The half-open window? Yeah I got that problem too. LOL
Had one of these. Gray with the burgundy interior. Got it from a 90yo lady who was going into a retirement home for $600. It was mint. Suspension was so soft, it felt like driving a couch, but felt like it would flip over around a corner.
Brian Anderson That's the problem with "land yachts". The ride is so nice but when you turn it's like you're gonna end up in the back of an ambulance in a few minutes
Back in my high school days, we went on a field trip to a military base and stayed at an army barracks. There was a shower and one of the chaperones showered naked and never got dressed.
I worked in a Lincoln-Mercury dealer in South Florida in 92-93. Our assistant sales manager had been in the business for about 25 years he said in the first 24 months of this body style he took more Chevys in trade than he had in the the previous 24 years, not saying a per month or per year figure but total cars. At one point we had 8 of these setting on the used car lot for more than 6 months, of course some of those were self inflected. Did you know if you book a Caprice as if it where a Caprice Classic you're in too deep and it won't go away.....ever, probably still there sitting in the back row.
1991 had an insanely good amount of original music, a lot of albums coming out on the same day, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Nevermind, The Low End Theory...
In some cool way you remind me about Jello Biafra, If Jello did review cars and not politics he would sound like you. By the way, People like cars and bikes that speaks to them. That's why people in India love two stroke engines that say Raanggi dang dang ding ding ding gadang gang gaang.
0:44 is probably the best thing I’ve heard when it comes to reviewing cars. Most people think 90s cars are ugly but at the same time they say they were nice back when it was new. Why? Because of context!
Your telling me they sold these that weren't a cop car or a taxi cab?some times i think this guy is dealing more with his personal issues than taking about a car.i mean really this is one of those last basic American cars Big comfortable solid as a rock.not the worlds best car at all,but look at this thing it's been bet to hell and it still runs.you don't worry about breaking it you can't.

Yung Six Speed Foreign I have a 95 Caprice and live on a rather busy road. Over the years I have had dozens of people offer to buy it. I'm just like no its nfs if it was it would have a GD sign on it.
I remember when this generation Chevy Caprice premiered. After spending 15 yrs with the previous generation, I remember saying to myself "Finally! They redid the body style of the Caprice, the Caprice Classic and the Impala. This was way better looking than the previous generation. :)
+Radi0he4d1 Meh, I like the look of it, in fact I've liked the looks of most of the old sedans or "Large Barges" as some call them. This one especially Because I remember that my mom owned one when I was a kid. It's weird, everyone says this guy shit talks all of the cars he reviews, but every time I watch one, I end up being sold.
ive got a 95 buick roadmaster... basicly the same car. and i absolutely love it! given that i kind of had to rebuild pretty much all of it... and it still has a bit of rust and no mufflers... and it needs two doors on the drivers side... and a fender... and a headlight... but other than that ive fixed everything internal. it looks like a pos but feels like a new car. its awesome. this caprice however, is a pos, no one has loved it in a long time. its sad...
sorry imo thats bullshit the people are that treated it like shit are shit not the car the car is still a good car its not the car's fault its rusting and shitty its the peoples fault for failing as a owner
well as of today ive wrecked my buick, slid on snow into a fire hidrant... really sucks. so now i need a grill and a hood and bumper along with the rest... yet it still runs like a champ
hey message me if you want a hand finding a car , i have a facebook page facebook.com/groups/223480111125737/355075844632829/?notif_t=group_comment deddicated to finding cheap awesome cars!
Why do I love these cars? I'm looking at a 5.7l (LT1) wagon, black on black (sorta). I think it's a former funeral car but anyway, it's 4k, should I or nah?
About to buy a 92 305 Auto wagon here in England. Your review just made me realise that I am not making a mistake, it is going to be a challenge, so buying a car that failed its yearly roadworthiness test spectacularly in June, and got parked up outside the owners house 350 miles from where I live…… Yup, should be interesting trying to polish this satin black turd. Thanks for your report.
Oh man what a laugh. Love these simple old cars. Cars from Australia too were a bit like this in the 90s. Least if something went wrong you usually can fix it yourself.
The Chevy equivalent of the Crown Vic essentially... Stereotypes aside I quite like these cars, they give a nostalgic feeling, and they're different. In my town is an old, beaten-up blue Caprice station wagon, and it was quite a sight in an area filled with nothing but pickups and SUVs with the occasional econo-shitbox. I remember seeing a coolant puddle from where it was parked and I feared it was done for, but it turns out the beast lived on.
If you ever drive a large American sedan for a while or even ride in one on a long trip, you will HAVE to have one. Great, realizable, and well built cars.
My gradfather has Ford Sierra from '88 , and apart form he knocking off rear bumper on gate while reversing few days ago , it's mint . And it can do 110 mph , without V8 . And being 1.8 4 cylinder it is smooth .
This is yet another old American car that if it were in good condition I'd love to have. I like the interior. I imagine the ride was very smooth. After a mob hit, if you had 3 dead bodies you could put it in the trunk. Seats were comfortable, engine powerful. Proof that GM actually did some things right
wow, a Caprice that isn't jacked on 32" rims
+Thee Adjudicator my 1990 is jacked on 24's, 32 inch rims would look plain dumb
SBdunks3 Not a fan of the DONK scene I take it?
Thee Adjudicator na i just like them nice and casually lifted not all stupid on some rims taller than the car lol
It or the Crown Victoria. I honestly don't know why people put these stupid giant rims on cars that were not built for that kind of stuff.
Each to their own
Man, this and the Crown Vic will always be the best taxis.
I drove both as a taxi driver, early 2000's. They bought cop Crown Vic's mostly. They had a cop Caprice. the CV was a better car. Caprice was a gas guzzler, drove like a whale in comparison. Caprice was too full of being buttons, etc. CV made sense.

It's a very realistic example of the Caprice which is why it's perfect to review.
Cars that aren't cared for in Pennsylvania can end up looking pretty ratty. We get a big education of rust in this state.

I have a 95 Caprice and live on a rather busy road. Over the years I have had dozens of people offer to buy it. I'm just like no its nfs if it was it would have a GD sign on it.
That was some insightful and funny poetry style monologue on the sweet Caprice! Very nice!!!
Great reference to A-Treat Soda. Brings back memories of growing up in Hunterdon County NJ and buying it at Laneco
I remember when this generation Chevy Caprice premiered. After spending 15 yrs with the previous generation, I remember saying to myself "Finally! They redid the body style of the Caprice, the Caprice Classic and the Impala. This was way better looking than the previous generation. :)
Damn that is literally the most perfect example of a caprice 👌
This is a car for a man with a deathwish and a stomach full of painkillers. A yuppie broken bad.
Radi0he4d1 So, this is the car for Max Payne?
McBandit Hope
Exactly. It is depressingly outdated and clings on to its past.
This is the car from the ridin dirty music video
My brain doing critical thinking: Regular Car Review's Scariest Police Chases
The petting zoo line will haunt me forever.
6:13 I never noticed the sideways emblem til now! I love you RCR!
ive got a 95 buick roadmaster... basicly the same car. and i absolutely love it! given that i kind of had to rebuild pretty much all of it... and it still has a bit of rust and no mufflers... and it needs two doors on the drivers side... and a fender... and a headlight... but other than that ive fixed everything internal. it looks like a pos but feels like a new car. its awesome. this caprice however, is a pos, no one has loved it in a long time. its sad...
sorry imo thats bullshit the people are that treated it like shit are shit not the car the car is still a good car its not the car's fault its rusting and shitty its the peoples fault for failing as a owner
the caprice as a hole is a great car, this particular one has seen better days. someone needs to love it again
i agree
well as of today ive wrecked my buick, slid on snow into a fire hidrant... really sucks. so now i need a grill and a hood and bumper along with the rest... yet it still runs like a champ
hey message me if you want a hand finding a car , i have a facebook page facebook.com/groups/223480111125737/355075844632829/?notif_t=group_comment
deddicated to finding cheap awesome cars!
I love skirts just like gear heads born in the early 80s love pop up lights they should be on cars today because they are more aerodynamic
4:20 I was watching in landscape mode and that really freaked me out. O.o
+aleks kerkelov 420 braaahhh
"given the lounge lizard aesthetic of the burgundy interior" 🤣🤣🤣
I wasn't ready....
0:50 why does this shot look like it was filmed in the 90s💀💀
Why do I love these cars? I'm looking at a 5.7l (LT1) wagon, black on black (sorta). I think it's a former funeral car but anyway, it's 4k, should I or nah?
Technically speaking a “donk” is a 1971-1976 Chevy Caprice/Impala ONLY!! A bubble Chevy on big wheels is just that... A bubble Chevy on big wheels
I still want one
Had one exactly like this, only it was a 91 and the interior was blue. Very good, strong running car
I love the wood paneling, old pre-3D games, and smoke smelling 90s culture...
This car was a staple of the New York taxi industry for many years!
My first car! :(
You sir, are a genius!
Great work!
Crown Victoria review?
As an owner of a Caprice cop car, I agree with all of this. Aside from the fact its kinda fast.
I can see this man being a successful poet, maybe even an influential author.
this car brings me good memories
RIP my old man
The outside of the car has seen better days
I remember riding in the backseat on a booster seat just to see in the backseat as a kid in one of these and i bet you remember that too.
Oh man what a laugh. Love these simple old cars. Cars from Australia too were a bit like this in the 90s. Least if something went wrong you usually can fix it yourself.
Your reviews are awesome. have you done the nissan 300zx or will you do that review?
The song fucking killed me.
""Never getting dressed!" Awesome.
Would you be able to do a review on my 1994 Caprice 9C1 LT1? I'm from jersey and mighty close to PA. I think you would have fun with this one :3
My gradfather has Ford Sierra from '88 , and apart form he knocking off rear bumper on gate while reversing few days ago , it's mint . And it can do 110 mph , without V8 . And being 1.8 4 cylinder it is smooth .
Car of the year ! REALLY !!!
I'm from Saudi Arabia, back in the 80's and 90's almost every single house had a Caprice then in the late 90's Crown Victoria took over.
“The car you win in the showcase showdown” I’m dying 😂
lol I love the obscure PA references, like the A-Treat soda
is this the right place for review requests? I'd like to see a review on a Mercedes W123
maybe someone else likes those cars too?
My grandfather bought a new Caprice every year or two. Big old boats for big old fishermen, that's what a Caprice means to me.
This is yet another old American car that if it were in good condition I'd love to have. I like the interior. I imagine the ride was very smooth. After a mob hit, if you had 3 dead bodies you could put it in the trunk. Seats were comfortable, engine powerful. Proof that GM actually did some things right
This is...this is art.
