One of my favourite masterclasses. A simple setup but this guy really comes across with a passion and a desire to learn his craft well. Very, very useful, thank you Sub Focus!
dntzonis no maybe for sub focus. but look at some 90s-2000s studios and you see most of the more expensive ones are heavy on gear. we have just made everything digital to make music production more accesible
i sidechain the kick to duck the bass, trust my ears..go listen to top tunes, then come back & listen to mine. & i noticed some of the big breakout songs, from skrillex 'scary monsters..' to juice wrld 'lucid dream'..the mix isn't perfect, the drums are squashed, yet these songs catapulted them to the next level, so i try not to overthink that, the fans just want a vibe, they don't care as much about fidelity as we do, but i do have standards and expectations to match the levels of my favorite tracks from other big artists i look up to.
+Stu Brown I think he's explaining general idea of it. If you start by doing what he said and start hearing flaws by the time you advance that means he actually helped you. You gotta start somewhere, right. It's better by watching these kind of tutorials and reading about it then slamming multi band compressor and doind all the wrong things, yeh.
don't get me wrong, I just thought it was funny that he says it can't really be taught whilst attempting to do exactly that. These tutorials are very helpful!

When I heard "Wavelab" my heart blowed up
good question. he means just those free, 'live' sounding cymbal loops that fill out the top end and help the beat to flow in between the main hits.
