    Trains 21 is a documentary of railroading in the 21st century and a look at the fascinating world of transportation. On this channel we deal with all aspects of trains with a strong focus on the Northeast USA.
    The goal is for you to learn a lot in a short amount of time.. A major infusion of knowledge in just a few minutes.. And if those few minutes distilled some of the best railroad information in the industry, we feel that we've done our job..
    The trick is clarity.. Clear, concise and on point.. New videos are uploaded frequently and if you like what you see, comment, like and subscribe (in that order!).

    Take a ride on the Reading. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200.00. Never was a fan of the high hoods I worked on back in the day. Visibility was extremely limited. Good stuff.

      They do have excursion trains from time to time. They now own NS ex F units.

    This is absolutely wonderful that we get to see old power still in use. It sucks that the former DL&W Keyser Valley branch has deteriorated to the point of becoming northeastern Pennsylvania’s worst railroad tracks… but I’m glad the tracks are still used at least. Hopefully these old locomotives will continue to serve for many years to come. Well done RBMN for keeping old power alive.

    The first GP30's were built for the RDG. They were the heaviest versions built. None of them received the Bee Line logos. Those were applied to the SD45, U30C and C630 models, unless I missed something. Great video, again AC!!

    Nice work AC!! Good to see you back! Don't know if anyone commented on the NYC's ten GP30s that were delivered w/o dynamic brakes in typical water level route fashion back in 1962. The GP30 fairing remained the same whether or not the unit had dynamic brakes.

    Awesome video, GP30 was always a favorite. Living in N&W territory you could always see a GP30 high hood running around up into about 1992. N&W had 42, I think, maybe it was 44? It was a bunch. They never got the NS paint scheme that I know of. Nickel plate had 9 Low hood GP30's. ALways like your video's, super informative. Liked and subscribed Thanks ! sam

    I'm always fascinated with the GP30 just by how it was designed and stylized to stand out above from the other locomotives and i'm pretty certain that i'm not the only who's curious on what if EMD built an SD30 that resembles the GP30 but with a few key differences to give it a more sturdier and powerful look.

    There's no doubt about it. The gp30 is a locomotive that you just cannot resist.this girl is a classic diesel locomotive. And she is a very special engine. She's heavy, she's beautiful and, she is a very reliable and very dependable locomotive. You cannot beat her switching cars.every one of these gp series locomotives are very dependable and reliable, and they will get the job done for you. The gp 30 is a highly distinctive design and she has withstood the test of time, and she's still earning her keep on many short line railroads. A real classic girl

    The GP-30 is my favorite 4 axial EMD engine. In 1980 while visiting an uncle in Est St Louis I spotted and photographed a GP-30 with ALCO trucks! They were off an ALCO that was traded in.

    BNSF has a bunch of GP39's (GP30 carbodies w/updated -2 guts and a 645). So you can more or less still see gp30's running on Class 1's today. The local behind my house here in Duluth, MN has one in the consist nearly always for the last few years.

      Eric you're lucky to see trains in Duluth here in brainerd we don't have squat. It's hardly any freight trains and it's once in a while we see a cold train that's about it pretty lame.

    • @trainknut
      @trainknut ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was just the right locomotive at the right time, for the power and speed it can produce it's remarkably efficient on fuel, especially compared to the likes of SD40-2s or SD45s.
      It was always marketed as a road switched, in the same vain as the GP9s before it, an engine with enough horsepower to keep up on the main, but still small and nimble enough to make those last-mile pickups on rusty old tracks.
      Just like the GP9 there will always be a market for small, low maintenance engines which can reliably run in sub-par conditions.
      That's not to say that in the right hands they can't still be capable road engines, R&N proves as much, it's just that the particular niche they fill, it's a pretty stable market... Going back to the steam days the GP38 is not unlike the Baldwin 2-8-2 logging engines of old that seemed to be universal yet distinct on every single class 2/3 well into the 60s.
