You need winches on both sides so you can alternate strap directions. That way you pull the load evenly in both directions when securing.

Nice! There are some states, like CA and NV that require you to have a CDL if your trailer weighs over 10k lbs

If the truck and trailer combo are rated for 26,001 lbs or more, you need a CDL. With a 25k trailer you will definitely need a CDL. There is an Ag exemption if you are using for agriculture use within 150 miles of your home.
