I agree :) i got some studio monitors for like 250$ on discount (in my country) new)(5.25" low 1"high), whit 150$ tascam 2x2, damn godly sound :) everything is crisp no interfirence, well the cables where 20$ for 1 lol, it all ads up but i can bet it is still better then this
Paperclown, My current audio setup on my computer is a vintage stereo receiver I got off of my dads high-school friend two years ago for $50 and a pair of vintage walnut veneer Realistic Minimus 7's I got at a yard sale for $5. The stereo feels like it ways that of a small child. I have an 8" sub hooked up to it but it's kind of ghetto looking and sounds okay for now. I'd like to get a proper plate amp for it when I have the extra money. For anyone on a budget your best bet is to stick with high quality vintage gear that isn't as popular with audio enthusiasts. That way you're guaranteed to get a decent price on hardware. I also have some Zenith Allegro MC-4000 floor standing speakers that sound beautiful, but they need some tlc, one of them needs a new tweeter. The Zenith's are a hidden gem because of their woofers & Foster horn tweeters and you can get them for next to nothing because audio snobs despise them. You even mention a Zenith speaker to them and they'll tell you to junk them. I got mine for free from the same guy I got the stereo off of. :)
Paperclown, I've shopped from Parts-Express before, I love them. I just don't have the money to buy all of the things I want from their site. My stereo needs all the pots cleaned along with all the pots for the crossovers on my Allegro's, they crackle when you move the knobs and don't always work. PE has the cleaner I need for the job without having to result to Amazon. Amazon is a buck cheaper, but I'd rather get it from a place that specializes in audio supplies. The 8" sub I have hooked to my stereo I got from PE. It's a woofer really meant for car use, but the amp pushing it is a really old basic car amp that isn't the best. It has no features for fine tuning. The crossover just has a selector switch for low, high, and full. I'd either like to get a plate amp for it or leave it passive and get an external sub amp that goes on a shelf. I'd also like to get some polypropylene caps and possibly replace the junky one's in my Minimus 7's along with the caps for the Allegro's. They're fairly cheap and easy to do if you're one for soldering. I'm going to Florida in a few days so I can't buy anything until I see what's left of my budget when I come back. As for all of these fancy powered monitors and $2,000 + receivers. I don't care what features they have or "audiophile" tech is used. They'll never have the same feel as vintage. I just love the feel of the power button and speaker selectors every time I shut it off or change a setting. New will never reproduce the click of all the buttons. Brand wise my stereo was just as despised by audio buffs as my Zenith speakers. But they were actually made in Japan by a third party company for the brand name it's under. I actually have the middle until on the list and it was going for $500 brand new back in the 70's. :)
WTh are you talking about? Linus hasn't been even an outside contractor let alone a full blown employee ( product manager that is) for Ncix in over 3 years now. He wasn't even in the damn video nor involved in any way.
yay for high-tech ultra-speed servers? i can only imagine this happening when editing off of the servers directly, over the lan network never seen this from youtube conversion or from rendering with local files. LukeTechTips?
Buy studio monitors instead... monoprice has a budget monitor that sounds amazing for its price point. Also the entry level JBL's are great and cheap. You can't* compare the transient response of a near field monitor to anything else
Can someone please help? I don’t understand if I can connect with Bluetooth through my phone and just play it without needing an amp or anything. Sorry if this is a dumb question but thank you 🙏
Thanks for the tips! Is angling desktop speakers towards your listening height as good as putting them up on stands? The tilting is much easier on a desk. Thanks!
personally, I usually enjoy games wearing headphones and music on speakers but tbh to each his own whatever makes you comfortable is what you will use right?
"Try singing high and low at the same time" Well... I can do overtune singing where I sing in 2 completely different frequencies at the same time.... Speakers can do this too(though in a completely different way. I use multiple chambers in my throat to resonate the sound in). It's not much else for it than just producing the highest frequency, but it blends in a different frequency by lowering and increasing the peaks of the high frequency at the interval of the lower one. The distance it needs to move for the lower frequencies however is the real problem. Subwoofers can move more air, which makes them better for lower frequencies(but the size makes them unusable for high frequencies because the cone bends)
I get less noise from plugging infront of my computer because I think I got a defective motherboard from NCIX the Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3 with my Sennheiser HD 598
I bought the best wireless speakers but had a great idea to protect them from someone poking their finger into the tweeter, which I've been tempted to do. I keep the speakers in a chest of drawers. Now my problem. No matter how I tweak the EQ, the sound is always muffled. I'm going to try crawling around the floor and see if that helps
This was a very expensive chest of drawers from. It's all natural pine, not your cheap MDF. I think its maybe the wireless cable, maybe I stood on it. How would you know?
I didn't try hard. This is relaxing fun for me. Smiling writing it is no guarantee anyone will smile reading it. But sometimes they do and I feel I made TH-cam a teensy bit brighter when that happens
my sub sits in my desk so it's surrounded by MDF. it bounces more and it sounds heavier and deeper. (back of the desk is fully open and there's a good gap between the desk and the concrete wall for the sound to escape right where i sit.) All that bass are comes from below me, slightly angled at the left side. which is just near perfect to me.
Great video! Nice advices. I own the Audioengine A2, but I am looking for an upgrade in pure loudness. These, although not reference sounding like I am used to, look like a safe bet. I am only worried about compatibility, as these speakers can only be connected to their own subwoofer, and vice-versa. Audioengine - and other brands - are more open, and that is a plus in case you upgrade later or one of the components fail.
Got the Kanto Yu 3 at Amazon for $219.99 but just the black matte was at this price. Had them for almost a week and I think they sound great! For the price I can't complain! Got a JBL SUB300 at the pawn shop for 86.00 with tax asking price was 100 ask them if they can lower the price. Very HAPPY with my purchase. Not an audiofile or whatever you spell it, just wanted something that sounded good but don't have pay an arm and leg for it!! 2 BIG thumbs all the way up!!! : ) Forgot to mention if your wondering about the wattage on the speakers. 30watts per channel and peak power at 120watts. Get's pretty loud in my small manufacture living room!
HEY NCIX...Ulephone 4g armor, Yotaphone 2, Oukitel k 10000 and Oukitel U13. All of them budget smartphone but unique in their own way...can you make a video on any 1 of them atleast?
I have a set of acoustic studio monitors series 3311. They go so low that i don't even need a subwoofer. Frequency response of 20-21000Hz reached at 5wats.
I got a record player and those white speakers look exactly like the ones I have. And the speakers have some of the best quality I heard on something like that
What about a good amp/pre-amp? Because a powerful amp is not necessary, Nything above 50W is more than enough for most rooms with 8 ohm speakers with average sensitivity.
Those speakers have nothing to do with professional speakers ie. studio monitors. Would not even be able to use them for that purpose, since they are lacking XLR and/or 1/4 inch inputs. They do look the part though, and Kanto themselves are also not advertising these as professional speakers, but for living space use. I did like the sub placement tip though.
for having only one pair of speakers for 2 separate sources like for listening to this video from PC2 \ tablet without alt-tabing from fullscreen game on the PC1 to start next one when this one ends
I bought my YU5s for $200(with a bonus $30 NCIX gift card included) less than 2 years ago. I never did pick up a subwoofer because I noticed Kanto's price steadily climbing to what they are today. Good speakers, but overpriced now.
How bout dat vintage audio with them receivers and unpowered monitors. Btw i would suggest a preamp for your turntable if you're going plug it into a pair of powered monitors. Preamps will improver the sound as the rca inputs on anything new wouldn't sound the best being that vinyl is old and hardly taken into consideration when building new speakers.
I'd love good speakers but... My budget is Logitech sub $100 5.1 set... however, with a sound blaster Z, they sound pretty decent for the price after their break-in period, and great filtering for analog audio. But maybe someday I'll have a real set. I do a trick with my rear set though. I'm still using an old fashioned desk with a hutch, and I have the rears placed on top of the hutch, aiming at the wall behind me. So I still get the feeling of sound behind me, without physically having to get speaker stands and whatnot to move them behind me. My subwoofer is also on the hutch as bass tends to fall, but I might do the sub trick mentioned here.
Of course speakers can play high and low frequencies at the same time...it would be pretty bad if they couldn't. The analogy with human vocal cords is completely flawed.
I had an annoying high pitched noise in my speaker system, it wasn't loud but damn annoying after a while. After months of troubleshooting and playing around I found out it was the 3.5mm audio jack, no matter how many times I change it. Metal on metal contacts are not reliable and will drive you mad if you have amplifier-speaker setup.
Well grounded speaker :) its a wire connection, dont you think if they managed to make 1000's of wire contacts , that they made Ground contact good as well . Yes they did , that is where noise comes from, its that good connection. Not to elaborate what it Ground Loop Problem , just connect all your audio gear, and everything that is connected to it , in the same wall socket . And you will not have problems
got a pair of m-audio av30's 20 watts total sounds great for my room playing games music even using amplitube and are only 100$ in the US (here in canada they are 219$)I would only recomend bigger speakers with higher wattage for a big space and better freq response in the low range if you are mixing
I hate those computer speakers with two tiny tweeters and one crappy subwoofer... they may sound good in the store, but they don't have any mid range capacity. They best way to get good sound is to buy a pair of 8 inch bookshelf speakers, they will provide plenty of bass and treble while still sounding great.
I know, since my crossover is intentionally WAY off in order to make up for weaker bass response in my bookshelf speakers, that my low end should be muddy. However, since I live in an apartment building, I'm afraid to play my music loud enough to make the bass anything but crystal clear. Small living spaces FTW!!!
As an audio engineer, it just seems crazy to buy these consumer level speakers. Far from flat and accurate response and your money often goes into aesthetic and ease of use (which I blame no one for wanting). Invest more money into a decent audio interface or line converters, studio monitors (8" or 10" if you don't want a sub, and since you aren't looking for reference grade as a consumer), and a monitor controller if you have lots of I/O. More expensive, but the payoff is far better, and you can kick off your bedroom producer career while you are at it.
Very professional indeed. However... in some cases, an external DAC (USB) may sound better than the DAC in the powered speaker. Optical is fine for most people though.
I use pioneer sdj60's trust me studio monitors are one of the best things you can do for a pc. I use them for music production and gaming. Buy a good external soundcard when u buy speakers just a tip.
Good info; not a lot of people bother covering crossovers these days. The speakers, though, are a rip off. $300 for an 8" sub with a low range of 35Hz? My chow chow pushes more bass when he farts in his sleep. If I'm spending over a hundred on a sub, it's gotta at least be a 12" that dips down into the 20's.
am planning to build my own speakers but the cost of it is coo high. i have 1 10" sub 2 10" woofers 2 8" woofers 2 6" woofers 4 twitters 2 2" mid range speakers and 4 4" mid range speakers. uhhhhhh. mahogany finish to match the furniture of my room and a home made amp that i made from other radio parts and speaker amps. 75 Watt amp for the sub. materials and tools to rent from my dad because he's a business man would cost about $600 done professionally, because i have the skill, some, but i don't have that all i have is the list of speaker above. open speakers don't sound good :(
If you're gunna spend this much why not get a 2i2 or something, and some presonus eris e8's, and a tremblor t8 or something then you have some audio i/o for if you want to buy a mic and record some music, or have a mic for lets plays ect.
These speakers (I owned the YU4's) have one issue that made me return them... it's that horrible buzzing noise. They sound amazing, but the noise is unacceptable.
I'm sorry but I need to point out a point that is blatantly inaccurate, optical connection is not the best for such speakers as there is a limited bandwidth of information for it to pass through. Using it is akin to having a 4K Monitor and only watching videos at 480p. An analog connection in this instance is superior to digital as bandwidth is easily greater. But one point which is quite accurate is that electrical noise is also very present in PC cases in which using a external DAC can easily mitigate these issues and to provide higher quality sound compared to the on board options.
I rather keep my Yamaha HS7, still works like a dream till this day. plus they run off XLR. More power doesn't give better sound, my HS7 speakers are "only" 90 watts per speaker so amount of watts doesn't give better sound without good drivers and great AMP's plus great audio source
$479.99 USD for the YU6 and $389.99 USD for the YU4, $299 USD for the sub8, $249 USD for sub6
omg that is way too much, you can get adam audio or eve for that price whit balanced inputs and build materials
I agree :) i got some studio monitors for like 250$ on discount (in my country) new)(5.25" low 1"high), whit 150$ tascam 2x2, damn godly sound :) everything is crisp no interfirence, well the cables where 20$ for 1 lol, it all ads up but i can bet it is still better then this
Might as well plug them when they are free.

it's a joke.
It's a joke you fuck
AvAF And became a lot cuter :)
Now that you say it, she does indeed present in a style really similar to linus.
if you look between 1:10 and 1:14, there is a slight curruption or something.
yay for high-tech ultra-speed servers?

LukeTechTips?
I thought I was the only one haha
5:57 Thank you for censoring Jack's ass crack. Wouldn't want your viewers to have nightmares.
Ironic. Video about good sound. I can hear static noise filtered by noise gate when she's silent.
I got the feeling, just from the intro, that "I'm going to learn something new here". And, I did. Nice sub trick! Thank you
I've heard that suggestion about crawling around on the floor to figure out the best location for a subwoofer before so I know it's legit advice
separate active subwoofer?? i want more bass
Hey, is the YU4 with sub equivalent to the YU6 without? If you know what I mean? Will I get 6 sound if i go for 4, with sub?
Question, with a ATLP60x turntable, do u use line on the turntable and line on the speakers or how?? Thanks
Off topic. Can you share the link for that lift desk on casters you featured the speakers on in the video?
love that laugh and way to school us new to old. great job julia
Do you think it’s a good choice for Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO?
Buy studio monitors instead... monoprice has a budget monitor that sounds amazing for its price point. Also the entry level JBL's are great and cheap. You can't* compare the transient response of a near field monitor to anything else
Phillip Morrison Yee boi, studio monitors are great for desks, got JBL 305s
Phillip Morrison or get some awesome UB5s
you have to eq them afterwards though.
don't. just don't.
IMO passive monitors > active monitors. But that might be just me
Can someone please help? I don’t understand if I can connect with Bluetooth through my phone and just play it without needing an amp or anything. Sorry if this is a dumb question but thank you 🙏
can you recommend me a budget tube amp? is any of the the Chinese tube amps you would recommend? thank you in advance.
should i get the yu6 or should i get the audio engine a5?
Thanks for the tips! Is angling desktop speakers towards your listening height as good as putting them up on stands? The tilting is much easier on a desk. Thanks!
can i connect YU6 to my pc via toslink cable?
is this thing on?
Is 5.1 or 7.1 much better than 2.1?
So is multi speaker surround sound officially death?
yes
unless you watch 5.1 movies all the time or smth like that
*****
But games have "positional" surround sound as well.
personally, I usually enjoy games wearing headphones and music on speakers but tbh to each his own whatever makes you comfortable is what you will use right?
Joe Stacks people that want to enjoy open worlds and great games that comes with great OSTs
Well the other option is to use a real surround sound headphone.
I put my speakers in my pants to feel the vibes.
I own a Kanto Yu2 and I'm loving it. One of my best purchases of 2016
I would recommend the Klipsch R-10SW Subwoofer. You can get it for 250$ on eBay and it's 10 inch. Way more and better Bass for less money.
Used speakers are almost always the better choice at the moment, especially if you have room for a proper receiver.
Clay Mann it probably sounds muffled because you put a fucking chest of drawers between them and your ears
This was a very expensive chest of drawers from. It's all natural pine, not your cheap MDF. I think its maybe the wireless cable, maybe I stood on it. How would you know?
Clay Mann
You tried so hard with your bad jokes and noone appreciates them.
pro troll is pro
I didn't try hard. This is relaxing fun for me. Smiling writing it is no guarantee anyone will smile reading it. But sometimes they do and I feel I made TH-cam a teensy bit brighter when that happens
I use a boombox for my PC's speakers. It's so good and bulky that it's hard to find a decent surround sound upgrade.
what if the motherboard doesnt have optical out?
whats the difference between yu4 and yu6?
my sub sits in my desk so it's surrounded by MDF. it bounces more and it sounds heavier and deeper.
(back of the desk is fully open and there's a good gap between the desk and the concrete wall for the sound to escape right where i sit.)
All that bass are comes from below me, slightly angled at the left side. which is just near perfect to me.
"Physically impossible to play two frequencies at once"..? That's utterly wrong and an embarrassing thing to say.

HEY NCIX...Ulephone 4g armor, Yotaphone 2, Oukitel k 10000 and Oukitel U13. All of them budget smartphone but unique in their own way...can you make a video on any 1 of them atleast?
Is my HDMI Amplifier with 7,1 Surround Ok ?
No, you need Dolby Atmos with speakers on the ceiling. 10.1 baby, its the only way to fly.
oh no I don't have Atmos, I was just being annoying. :)
Clay Mann He he grrrrrr
I have the Kanto Yumi's plus the Sub-8, great system and (with all the inputs) no receiver is necessary.
I have a set of acoustic studio monitors series 3311. They go so low that i don't even need a subwoofer. Frequency response of 20-21000Hz reached at 5wats.
Avoid if you're looking for budget studio monitors.
Why? Please explain.
Why?

explaining the arrangement of speakers is quite good.
I bought my YU5s for $200(with a bonus $30 NCIX gift card included) less than 2 years ago. I never did pick up a subwoofer because I noticed Kanto's price steadily climbing to what they are today.
Good speakers, but overpriced now.
rocking m-audio av32 (the smallest, cheapest ones, 100€) for a week now and couldnt be more impressed... solid choice
The best test for speakers is to turn off lights then listen to a FX album 🤗
Lol! they needed that disclaimer, because if not I definitely would've thought they were pranking us with that floor-crawling bit. 😃
Get JBL 305s instead with a audio interface like a Focusrite 2i2

Finally, some actual tech tips
Why should I mention Kappa123? What does that have to do with sound?
What's a kappa123?
You've never been to twitch... have you ?
Sure I have. But I don't watch gaming streams. Mostly just the two weekly tech shows.
Putting the "licence free baby music" when Jack crawled around was funny.
what's wrong with one of her eye
Please review more headphones. Your one of the best for headphone reviews.
Could you guys do a pro headphones setup guide next?
Crap... how well will this work if my head is in the shape of a cube?
Of course speakers can play high and low frequencies at the same time...it would be pretty bad if they couldn't. The analogy with human vocal cords is completely flawed.
Logitech z506 master race. It's been a couple of years since I first got them and they still sound as good.
KAPPA123!!!! That was amazing!
Nice set of speakers there.

Ordered the YU4’s and Sub8. Waiting for my custom U-Turn turntable as well. Great video, thanks for the tips!
How’s your experience with this set up? Is it good for watching movies ? Looking forward .
its trash and not worth the money@@harprit1989
Ill opt for the corsair sp2500 soon.
Z reviews has pretty good review for high end audio equipment

More expensive, but the payoff is far better, and you can kick off your bedroom producer career while you are at it.
It's actually a lot cheaper to get a receiver and use bookshelf speakers. I run a 5.1 surround sound setup that way.
Just like there is no replacement for displacement there is no replacement for cone area of a loud speaker.
Great guide, especially the subwoofer crawl!
Very professional indeed. However... in some cases, an external DAC (USB) may sound better than the DAC in the powered speaker. Optical is fine for most people though.
I would personally go for a dedicated amplifier and vintage speakers.
I use pioneer sdj60's trust me studio monitors are one of the best things you can do for a pc. I use them for music production and gaming. Buy a good external soundcard when u buy speakers just a tip.
How to set up your audio like a pro : pay someone else to do it for you LMAO
Good info; not a lot of people bother covering crossovers these days. The speakers, though, are a rip off. $300 for an 8" sub with a low range of 35Hz? My chow chow pushes more bass when he farts in his sleep. If I'm spending over a hundred on a sub, it's gotta at least be a 12" that dips down into the 20's.
Miss her :(
Why would we? How about playing music from a streamer or player and playing games with BGM off and game sound effects on?
no kappa for you, jack should never be censored!
am planning to build my own speakers but the cost of it is coo high. i have 1 10" sub 2 10" woofers 2 8" woofers 2 6" woofers 4 twitters 2 2" mid range speakers and 4 4" mid range speakers. uhhhhhh. mahogany finish to match the furniture of my room and a home made amp that i made from other radio parts and speaker amps. 75 Watt amp for the sub. materials and tools to rent from my dad because he's a business man would cost about $600 done professionally, because i have the skill, some, but i don't have that all i have is the list of speaker above. open speakers don't sound good :(
Thank you for the tips, this was really helpful!
360e a pair for 8 3/4" studio monitors which still vibrate at 9hz are better, flatter, cleaner & more professional
I really need a good sound system for my PC... but these are a bit too much.
Yes please. More Julia
Kappa 123 for that sick Easter egg!
Hmmm, those YU6s are about the same price as krk rp8s.
FriedEggSandwich fuck krk. overrated. kanto is way better with more features.
More features yes. The krks don't have a remote..
I wouldn't call them overrated. KRK monitors are a decent budget monitor.
FriedEggSandwich and Bluetooth.
