Smart ForTwo Electric Drive EV Range Test (Extreme Reality Condition)

This test is being conducted on my one month old 2015 Smart Electric Drive
The two main concerns about an electric drive vehicle is the range and charge time.
Today we focus on the range.
This test puts together all non EV friendly condition that would occur in reality. This includes cold temperature which means the battery don’t perform as good and the heater will be running constantly along with heated seats, winter tires for winter driving, two people in the vehicle (hey it’s a smart ForTWO), and 85% highway driving (Unlike fuel power vehicles, EV gets better mileage in city driving)
Total Distance Travelled: 40km
City: 6km (15%)
Highway: 34km (85%)
State of charge at start: 100%
State of charge at end: 31%
That is 69% for 40km; equivalent to 1.73% of charge per km
At this rate, it would run out of charge completely at 58km!

Natural Resources Canada 2-cycle Testing claims the Smart EV has 138km range
