Sometimes when someone says something stupid, I’m not going to say anything because I don’t have to police everyone. Let me give you an example. Let’s say my friend says “I hate vegans, they are annoying”. I’m not going to say anything because I pick my battles. Same if she said she doesn’t like Beyonce. She’s entitled to her opinion, and if no one in the room asks me what I think, I might not say anything. Do you get what I mean? It’s about picking your battles.

Næp Sæck Being vegan and liking Beyoncé are choices. Someone has the right to not agree with someone else choices, it’s okay. Being gay is not a choice. And if you let a derogatory comment about someone slide for something they can’t control, you *are* compliant, %100 of the time.

I’ve defended my friends (straight and gay) plenty in their absence. One of my best friends was gay, Mike (God rest his soul) we’ve been friends since I was in kindergarten. The father of my kids tried it. Mike & I had went out and we went to the gay bar, he would go to the places I wanted to go and I would go to the places he want to go to. The father of my kids said to me “You’re going to stop hanging around Mike, I let out a lil laugh, because I couldn’t believe he even said it, I saw that he was serious, so I looked him in his face straight eye contact and said “I’ve been friends with Mike since kindergarten and I’m not going to stop now, I will hang with him and he will always be welcomed in my house and treated w/respect” he stood there and looked in my eyes for a moment and walked away. Never again was it brought up and never was Mike disrespected in my home or in my presence. I’m not the one. Ain’t no man or anyone going to tell me how or what I should feel or do about anything.

John Kimber, no need to wonder, because unlike you and/or who you have to deal with (I assume because of your comment) I wasn’t insecure. He NEVER had to choose between friends female or male with me, because I know where I stood with him and what I had to offer.
And as far as kids go I wish a MF would’ve tried to keep mine from him including me or him. There wasn’t a damn thing child support, courts or whatever other petty situations MF’s go through with theirs, that could’ve done anything for ours. TF!! That wasn’t us and could’ve never been.
But best of luck to you.

Being gay and having your best-friends as girls is hard sometimes because they don't understand the importance and danger that we have to go through, I am not speaking on all females, but, I was at a party one time and this guy thought I was a girl and my friends didn't want to be there when he found I was not a girl. I told him I didn't want to dance with him and he kept insisting so I just danced on him. But, when he found out - it was the scariest moment of my life, seeing my friends that are girls just leave and not see what danger they were leaving me in. I stopped trusting females after that because they sometimes never understand what people will end up doing to gay people and they take those matters lightly and females have so many gay friends but don't act as advocates for them. We are nothing but, the friend that gives them life, compliments, confidence, their fashion stylists, their hair stylists, we are looked at as a thing to keep them looking their best and feeling their best. Having a gay friend has become a trend, a must have, something cool ... I mean honestly I could go on forever about this a female and a gay best friend. The conversation can go so far with this!

    • @genevieve571
      @genevieve571 5 ปีที่แล้ว +52

I think the true issue here, is that those women were never your friends. Had you been an actual female, they'd have ditched you the same way. Some people are assholes regardless of gender. Edit: let me also state that that unsafe feeling you experienced (this is aside from the assholes you were with), is a feeling women deal with every day. I do hear a lot of talk about how straight women should help the LGBTQIA community deal with homophobia and other related forms of discrimination. That's all well and good, but I'm not sure I hear much about supporting straight women, we get raped and killed by men at alarming levels and honestly, it's hard for me to name a community that has our backs in our struggle. Yet it seems everyone expects us to help them in their quest for acceptance and safe spaces when we don't have much of either ourselves. I'd like for this to open dialogue, I'm not put here to start an arguement. It just seems that from where I sit, all I hear is what straight women aren't doing to help (in particular, but probably not limited to) gay and trans individuals, but I don't get the sense that the support that's being demanded (and given in many cases) is reciprocated.

I definitely think that this should be an open discussion as women do go through a lot. You do in fact have a point when you say who does women have in their corner and I feel like we do often get stuck in this game of well who struggles the most and we want to focus on who has it the hardest... this is a very deep conversation with a lot of layers and I think this would make for a great discussion. In response to the comment I made and your response to it I believe they were most likely not my friends. I want to say more, but, also I can't speak on the struggles of a women as I am not one. Feel free to ask me any questions to continue this conversation if you are interested. I would like to ask you, how could we support women more?

I don't have a problem with you wanting gay friends because they have the relatability aspect that women just can't have. But those women don't speak for the majority of women. Women are told, even by other women that "we're fake and only care about gossip or boys". I think it's rooted in misogynist views, though I don't think you're a misogynist. I hope you find women in your life that love you and will defend you because we're not all bad.

I feel that men individually and as a group need to heal there insecurity’s and notice the difference between masculinity and toxic masculinity BUT I also feel that women have a huge role in this. I talked to girls who say they’d never date a guy who they consider feminine. I think this reinforces the IDEA that men need to be ‘hyper masculine’ not only to be considered straight but also to be liked by women.

    • @batty_babette
      @batty_babette 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

Agreed! I've seen a lot of other women who say that men who are feminine are automatically gay or when certain hobbies were brought up say that the only men who would like those things are gay, etc. I think this causes a lot of insecurity and esteem issues in straight/bi/pan men because it kinda gatekeeps heterosexuality and to an extent masculinity as well (or at least the perception of masculinity).
I've also seen this manifest as Biphobia too. When I was in my GENDER STUDIES class- one of the classes that you would expect to be really accepting, my teacher asked the girls (specifically) in the class whether bisexuality existed. SO many of them raised their hands and was defending bisexuality until the teacher asked if they would date a man who told them they were bisexual. Immediately like 85-90% percent of them was unsure and several of them flat out said no.

Also - some people posit that homophobia stems from misogyny, because it's an extension of hating femininity, but in men i.e. feminine men. Not to say that all gay men are feminine, but there are definite links between homophobia and perceived femininity in men. Some philosphers centuries ago used to believe women were literally less human than men, and men were the peak of humanity, so for a man to actively take on an 'inferior' disposition and 'act like a woman' garners a violent response.

Story time about me and my brainwashed homophobic boyfriend:
(Posted this comment on another video in case anyone recognizes it)
I tried so hard to at least convince my bf that him “not agreeing” with gay people makes him a homophobe. It was our first argument he even said “I’m not scared of them” I was seriously considering breaking up despite him being the only person I dated that I loved. I yelled at him after he tried to hug me. I apologized later and he said that he was sorry we have different beliefs.
Here goes a little bit of how our conversation went.
Me: “I hate when people use that bible to justify prejudice against others”.
Him: “noo I don’t hate them, I don’t agree with them”
Me: “that’s like me saying I don’t agree with your brown skin, I don’t hate brown skin people I just don’t like that lifestyle, brown people are sinful and go to hell”
Him: “I didn’t say they go to hell”
Me: “what ever the rest of the stuff I said still applies”
Him: “I would eat dinner with a gay person. I paid for Alex to come from Texas to hang out and he’s bi. I just think it’s wrong and Alex understands that.
    (Alex is his friend)
    Me: “okay whatever”
Him: “if there was an anti-gay parade I wouldn’t go to hate or support I would just let them be”
Me: “what if there was a bill to make being gay illegal would you vote for it or against it”
Him: “I only ever voted for the president once”
Me: “okay but if you had to what would you choose”
Him: “what if I voted for it?”
Me: “then our country would be isis”
*later after silence and playing Mario*
Me: “okay the tension is high wanna go back to calling each other boomers every 5 mins and raging over Mario”
Him: “nah we should talk about this because it might comeback up again”
    Me: “okay......you go first”
Him: “I have nothing against him I just think it’s wrong”
Me: “ *people don’t choose to be like that* ”
Him: “ *you know they do* ”
(This part made me the most mad especially because I’ve been in the closet as bi forever so I know it’s not a choice)
    Me: “no it’s not.”
    Him: “it’s not natural”
Me: “then why does it occur in *nature* ”
Him: “you can’t produce kids from it”
Me: “SO PEOPLE WHO CANT HAVE KIDS ARE SINNERS even if they’re StrAight. Also you said you’re into anal THat UnAtUral. By your definition any form of sex that don’t make babies is unatural.”
Him: “can we just accept we have different opinions on this, and we both feel strongly. So we probably won’t change our minds.”
    Me: “I guess”
Him: “I can go if you want”
(Cause he was at my house)
Me: “no it’s fine but maybe well find more middle ground tomorrow”
Then we ended up talking about politics like abortion, guns, death penalty. But it wasnt as heated since my opinion on these stuff aren’t as strong and I don’t even understand how supporting gay people is “political” but what ever

My biggest problem with this issue is that every straight girl wants a gay best friend but then they see a lesbian and are absolutely appalled by it somehow????

I've never met girls like this irl but omg the amount of people I see online that think this way. Also those men that hate gay men but accept lesbians and bi women because they're "hot".

They are more comfortable with gay men because gay men don't view them in a romantic light.

    My experience :
My best friend was dating this guy and they where talking otp all night while she was spending the night at my house . Me and him eventually started interacting and then he said something along the lines of calling me a guy , (i dont really remember what he said but im a transgirl just to clarify) , and my friend was like .. “thats not a guy” and then he went , “oh sorry she just kinda sounded like a boy” and my friend said , “shes a trans girl” . And immediately his whole attitude changed and he started saying abunch of transphobic shit towards me and my friend didnt stick up for me . Basically that ruined the whole sleepover . Btw i subscribed 💗

I hate when people are like "I don't have a problem with gay people but I don't agree with them" like tf agree with what?? They're not a politician, it's their life, there's nothing to agree or not agree with

I love how you mentioned that being silent with friends who are homophobic is giving them a safe place to be that way. I'm sure there are a lot of homophobes, racists, sexists, etc who might be afraid to openly say horrible things in public and when we make it seem like its okay cause we're in private and they are our friend, it only allows them to think these attitudes and thoughts are okay as long as you're not out there screaming them at minorities

My dad was homophobic, abusive to my mom than me. When I was 12 his friend burned our home and beat him. Months later he finally told my mom he is gay. Which you'd think would make him not be abusive since he is finally being himself, but nope.

I love watching gay love stories because I love men. I remember telling a guy this he said he cant even imagine gay love he said its disgusting. I was so shocked and upset. I told him I understand that he is straight but he doesn't need to insult something because he doesn't understand it or cant comprehend it. He apologized but I just dont respect him anymore.

I feel like plain and simple if you're in a serious relationship with someone who's homophobic then some part of you is tolerating that belief in yourself. If you really wanted to defend your friends you would do it. Homophobic men often are toxic to women and believe they're superior.

    • @renealexander2703
      @renealexander2703 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Not true. Gay men think they are superior.
