Wonderful ! Thank you very much! Brings back so many wonderful memories! Even though driving a C5 V6 and a C6 the feeling of sitting in a DS is one of a kind! Best car ever!
Nice overview of the car. Yours, in this royal blue color, is truly beautiful. At times, your pictures clearly show how stable the bodywork is: it literally floats through the holes in the road without so much as shaking!! Thanks for posting this.
I grew up with these big Citroen sedans, and have owned one in adult life. This video is as good as you're going to find in TH-cam about what makes the DS series special. In my retirement years I drive a supercharged Jaguar sedan. But my heart remains stuck in France with these frog-faced beauties. Maybe because during my formative years my Dad, a country doctor, owned a succession of DS sedans that could brave Canadian winters when Jeep Cherokees would not dare to venture out. He used to take me with him on house calls. As I found out later, a DS21 would happily cruise at 100 mph or with just a few less mph deliver 30 mpg. And it rode-LITERALLY-like a cloud. The DS can't be compared with other cars, it's just not fair. My fellow boomers will understand when I quote Vitas Gerulaitis about being beaten by Bjorn Borg: “I was playing tennis. He was playing something else.”
there are more unique features which he did not cover,,, Changing tire is unique, no use of jack,, can drive on one rear wheel removed,,,brake paddle travel just 1 1/2 to 2 inches,,,,,with no force,,, steering return force increasing with speed,,, single wiper blade,,, car always maintain same level,,,,, empty or loaded... height adjustment,,,, I had driven car with front left blown tire in full control and realized by the time all side wall had gone,,,
Fantastic video, beautifully done! I have a DS 21 Break (same colour, too!), and I can vouch for the car's capabilities... both on the road and as a traffic-stopper everywhere it goes... Keep up the great work!
This is pretty much the best video clip about the DS I have ever seen. The very soul of this vintage car and its heart-wrenching beauty are brought out just exceptionally well. Even the few minor mistakes about technical details don't matter at all - this video is about a thing of beauty and in this respect it's close to perfect .
Fantastic video. Thank you for the English sub-titles. I sure could enjoy what you were saying about your beautiful Citroen DS. Excellent driving scenes to experience in a way what you were extolling about this fabulous car. Wonderful video!!!!
Excellent video showcasing possibly the best car ever! Why did Citroen not continue with swivelling lights and hydropneumatic suspension which was so good it was used under licence by Rolls Royce. My dad had an ID20 nearly 50 years ago and I was totally amazed by it. It still has a futuristic look about it. Thank you for presenting this.
Yes, it's a mighty fine car - and you even do not have to pump the gaspedal with start to have suspension to act - if the pump is ok it just rises steady after a small time, a few seconds... The engine is so quiet you almost don't hear it idling, no tincking noises of valvetrain and high pitch whines like today is the norm even in new cars. Just loved it, had one in my youth...
Thank you. We're looking forward to make more films with english subs, even older ones. And maybe - one day - you will be surprised with something we can't tell now :)
You guys make truly enjoyable videos to watch. It's a shame I have to rely on the subtitles, otherwise it would be perfect. The person responsible for all the images and the way it looks deserves a raise. You guys make truly natural and very nice to watch videos. Keep up the great work!
Beautiful car, but why do all these feature films depict the facelift model instead of the original single headlamp version? By the way, the DS does not have 4 wheel disc brakes,
Thanks for that. We forward it to the owner. Notice, that this car is in everyday use. It's not a garage-sleeper. And this thing made is really-really respectable.
You are correct in that the fluids are not compatible - but the hydraulic spheres on earlier models were black - not the fluid. It is only on later models (late 1966 onwards) that the fluid and spheres were all green.
Super film...all except some mention of first front wheel drive...Of course there were many before this or Traction Avant, including the first ever car!
Супер. Про гидроподвеску отдельная тема, но то что уже в 1955 году французы уже делали поворачивающиеся фары это меня очень поразило и удивило, молодцы.
Yes please dp - because the rest of us who would like to own the epitome of a DS would prefer to buy it instead. A properly set and maintained BVH gearbox is a joy to drive.
Dear >Totalcarmagazine> 1:56 the first mass produced front wheel drive car was STOEWER V5 designed 1930 and manufactured in Szczecin PL(Stettin DE) from 1931 to 1932 in 2,1 thousand egz . So please do make a short actualization of Your narration.
For the "no automobile industry" I would mention that the 120 years old IKARUS was the worlds 4th largest Bus manufacturer in the 70's and 80's. Of all the buses worldwide, the Ikarus 260 was one of the most produced. 2/3 of the worlds articulated buses were done by IKARUS in the 80's. Of course with many other industries in Hungary and else in Eastern Europe, after opening the fragile economy to western market it was bought by competition, namely the French Irisbus and killed off.
Who made the original video before you subtitled it, please and added the bookending bits? I know I've seen it on TH-cam, but can no longer find it. Thanks! And I do appreciate the subs.
The comments regarding the particular hydraulic spheres attached to the car in the film are incorrect - or at least the translation. You cannot take apart welded spheres to repair them other than to recharge the nitrogen gas in them. The earlier large spheres - correct for the DS and SM, can be disassembled completely and new diaphragms installed. Replaceable spheres are still possible up to the current model C5 however their design is different again.
In my mind this is still, and always will be, the most gorgeous car ever made.
View of car at minute 9:32 is stunning.
I think to this day this is the best high budget and most well produced video by Istvan "Pista" Valyi
Bought mine last year - 1970 DS21 Pallas EFi , semi- automatic, RHD in Vert Argent (Metallic Green). It is spectacular. I adore it.
